Ok, so this it's the best advice. Your friend needs to first promise to you that he'll not react with violence before you tell him. And take him very far away, maybe next town before you tell him. This way, he'll be able to gather himself together even if he gets angry initially.

First cut all contact with these friends, remove yourself from this situation. in this matter you save your friend but make 3 people your mortal enemies. you dont know how your friend might exact his revenge. of course your friends would deny, thats your word against the words of 3 people.
