The writer actually has one of the best insights so far for the OP, but like most black men you don't like reading.
Don't be a clown, there's nothing interesting or informative about what he wrote, anyone can write anything these days.
I would suggest to the poster to try platforms such as quora.
People like you will never tell others the truth.

there are more objective people on Quora than this site, you are not one of the objective people on this site . The guy you are castigating i can tell is an objective fellow. I suspect you wanted the fellow to provide you sweet lies that massage your ego.

The guy wrote about the kind of technical jobs that can enhance the chances of Op hits the ground running. He wrote about the need to migrate legally.

The guy also wrote about attitudes and behaviours that won't get him far if Op moves to Germany.

The guy wrote about need for financial discipline when he gets to travel out that will be quite useful by the Op.

I doubt the op financial intelligence quotient is high judging by the concern that the colleagues prefers using whatsapp instead of callling with regular phone. If something is cost effective, why try to prove a stupid point, it is this sense of unnecessary show off that makes many Nigerians in diaspora fail to achieve.

The lies here is astonishing, speaking German it is not still easy to get a job in Germany.

I really can imagine.

First of all, people abroad generally make international calls via Watsapp, Facebook, Skype. It's far cheaper thanwhat you termed normal call, so this shouldn't be a yardstick for you to Guage your friend.

Secondly, your question here seems to show you haven't talked things over, with your friend, you don't know exactly what he does in Germany?

Now, to know whether you will make it or not, ols do answer thw following questions :

1) are you a skilled professional?

2) are you a graduate?

3) what kind of paper (visa) status will you use to enter thw country?

4) what specifically are you going there to do?

If you can correctly answer these, it will define your reality when you get there.

I think that's quite rude of you to ask me to keep quiet. This is a very backward way of raising your argument and stern lack of moral upbringing. GERMANY IS TWO hours from my house, I worked on a contract there for 2 years and you are here being disrespectful!

Lmaoooooooooooo, jeeeeez. This is not your child you're talking to abeg abeg, shift. If you want to blab about moral upbringing, Facebook is there for you.

There's absolutely nothing wrong in telling you to keep quite on a topic you're quite obviously not familiar with. Germany is just 2 hours away from you? Well, so is London from me, and if OP had been asking about London, I would have kept QUITE. I don't live there and everything regarding work ethics etc. I know would have been based on what OTHERS had told me.

What I find interesting is you having a 2 year contract and I guess (according to your statements earlier ) having to speak German in meetings? grin

Wie waere es, wenn wir das mal austesten und gucken wie gut dein Deutsch tatsaechlich ist?

Blabbing about 2 years, when I have been here for half my life, smhhhh.

Good evening nairalanders! I hope you had a good day?

So, let me just go straight to my reason for opening this thread, and I hope I would be able to convey my thoughts impeccably:

It seems like some of our people who travelled to Germany aren't doing so well after all (I stand to be corrected, though!)
I have a friend over there whom I am preparing to go meet. This guy has been there since 2017. He hardly calls me on normal call. He would rather call on WhatsApp. Reason being so that he could get in touch cheaply. The first and only time I asked him to send me something, he told me pointblank he didn't have.
Just this afternoon, I heard a colleague's father just came back to Nigeria from there after 21 solid years! He had abandoned his wife and children here in Nigeria. If he was doing so well over there, would he not have arranged for his family to come over and stay with him - at least?

I have been worried, even before I heard this colleague's father thing: I don't know what I am going to meet at the friend's place; I don't know what life is like over there - how to cope in a non-English speaking environment. I don't know how long it's going to take me to make it over there and reconnect with my family. This news about my colleague's dad also increased my worries.

So, I decided I would come on here to ask: Aren't these red flags as regards traveling over there, especially with the hope that when i get there, after 2-3 years, I would bring in my family.
Anyone here knows about life in Germany?

1. Spend some time to research about the country you plan to emigrate to. If you are too lazy to do this, you will not succeed as an immigrant.
2. If you emigrate without the appropriate visa, be prepared to live like a hunted criminal (in most cases).
3. Your best chance at succeeding as an immigrant is to go back to school (undergraduate or senior secondary) and prepare yourself adequately for success. It does not matter if you have 10 degrees in Nigeria. Most European countries will offer you some form of financial assistance to go back to school.
4. If you want the short cut, you can agree to transport briefcases from Frankfurt to Zurich. They go nab you for sure. Guaranteed.
5. If you are humble enough to do any menial job, but too proud to go back to school, you can get a job cleaning the airports or hospitals (and lie to your friends in Nigeria that you are an airport engineer or a doctor).

Most Nigerians emigrate without papers and expect to make millions by operating a taxi or selling Nigerian foodstuff.

My brother Germany is a good country, no racism like other European countries. Succeeding there or Anywhere depends on your contact ( follow who know road) and grace. You can run street, do legit work or business. It's not a country that people will tell you there is no work. I have seen someone that have lived in Spain for 15years, still no apartment of his own ( still squatting with friends) but when he managed to help his younger one to come over: after like 2 years the younger one rented an apartment for him.

If you are coming as illegal immigrant, better stay back in Nigeria otherwise you will regret coming here. Germany is difficult for those with legal papers not to talk of someone with no working permit.

Na lie Germany isn't difficult as you portray it

1.I have heard it many, many times that, Germany is a country for the poor to make it, while the rich are heavily over taxed.

2. Germany is not a scandinavian country that embrace English. You have to understand that, there are language barrier so you as an English dude will have to lay low and do meagar hustles.

3. You have to enter the country legally to have work permit to work and make it.

4. That your friend papa that spent 20 years in germany and came back empty handed should go and deal with his faulty foundation.

5. If you are doing well in Nigeria, just be content here.

To be honest things have changed within the last two years. Germany now accept lots of Tech guys who can't speak German at all and it has been massive this year.
In 2018, your arguement would have been much more valid but not 2021.
I never said they dont, I was working there for two years once upon a time and ofcos I dont speak German, .What Im saying is simple, for a migrant to move fast they need to learn how to speak the language if not it will become a barrier at some point. I was o n contract and I know that I'm returning to the Uk so it did not matter if I spoke the language or not more so if you are an expert not matter.

The term doing well is open to interpretation, a country where my kids are systematically shoved towards more technical Education when the blond hair ones go into financial studs and more economically viable disciplines is not where I would want my kids to grow up. Somewhere a Nigerian finds it hard to set up something as easy as a Nursing agence nahhhh PASS>
I think you're looking at technical education with Nigerian eyes. In Nigeria, technical education means poor life, university education means rich life. But that's not the case with Germany. Besides lots of Nigerians do well academically abroad. So if your kids grow up over there, they will make great strides and thrive.

All the jobs I see especially for Engineering require masters. More like 80%.
Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, etc.

Read this job advert below for instance. It's an example of the adverts you'll find a lot on indeed and linkedin. Masters as a qualification is usually required even at entry level. But there are many jobs that may also take just a Bachelor's degree or Ausbildung ( vocational training).
Ausbildung (vocational training) is popular in Germany and enough for mostly technicians not engineers in the academic sense.

Ok that's interesting, down here they rather train graduates or encourage people to qualify on the job Experience is valued more here.

I agree with you on that point. Even I am currently learning the language because, like it or not, eventually I will like to take up a management role and that requires the ability to communicate with most people well.

But that's not the argument some dumb guys have been making on this thread. The clowns were even claiming people don't get work at all because they are blacks.

Not really. Nigeria is a mess because of bad leadership not because the people didn't pay taxes.

Joysticks:
If Europe is good why are Nigerians with legal papers doing fraud and stealing? Why can't they work and make legitimate income?
Why are most Nigerians languishing in various prisons for crimes across Europe if those countries are greener in pastures?
This is a falsy. Nigerians also commit crimes in the US, Canny, Aussie and everywhere in the world. It has nothing to do with Europe but more about a mindset. An average Nigerian worships money - the end justifies the means plus him/her would like to go show off in Nigeria.
