Investing is for business men while savings is for those who want to enrich the banks

Savings with the current rate of inflation is like being high on cheap drugs.

That's my major issue currently. I have money laying fallow in my account and I don't feel comfortable with that. I've searched for investment opportunities and I've tried some but they all fail due to representation, cos I'm not available to oversee them. Nonetheless, I still believe investment is far better than saving.
Rule no 1.
Never u start a business u will not be able to monitor/supervise.
Then, investment is for the hardened ones not for ill fainted hearts

Saving is NOT investment

Saving is mere accumulation_ and can come in any form and it comes with very little/ no risk

Investment on the other hand is spending the money to make more money _ and it comes with risks of different (but higher) degree (compared to savings)

If you don't have heart or ready to embrace the fact that your money could be lost at anytime _ Investment is not for you

It's a trick question, and circumstances decide which is better
That's rule no 1 in investment. Investment is not for the ill fainted hearts, no matter how sweet the investment sounds.

Investment is cool though, I once invest 200k on some cable business, I recouped the money in about a year, still enjoying some of the profits.

So invest, keep only the minimum needed for emergencies, Though all paper money looses value over time
Naira has being consistently falling extremely fast since it's invention.

If its worth it, buy a land in an estate or location with visible development.

3 months to when you need the money, put it up for sale.

At least you'll make 10% on it.

saving is better. Investing comes with highest risk.
I kinda disagree...

I personally do both, and will recommend that for any young person with a futuristic financial prospect.

Anyone who invested in Ethereum or Bitcoin a decade ago is already made today!!!

Instead of saving 30,000 every month (even at a good yearly interest from platforms like Piggyvest), it makes more sense to invest at least half while saving the rest for future emergencies.

If you are a low income earner, just save. No need investing.

But if you are a big earner, investing sure pass. Real estate if you can or in raw foods. Naira is on a free fall.

Both but ratio of investing should be more than savings when you have saved enough to start investing.

I wanted to say this too.
Funny how Nigerian bank pay pottancee for savings.

Trust as a resource is heavily lacking in Nigeria and
Many 'investments' are fraudulent schemes.
The promoters aren't even genuinely trying but failing. They are schemers.

God help us.

Investing is better off, but one must know how to calculate risk and reward before venturing into investment, a friend invested $8,000 on one of the crycto currencies, early this year and today is $48,000 richer.

The worst thing you can do is to leave your money in the bank. By fractional reserve banking, the bank can only keep a certain percentage (about 10%) of your cash available. The rest they give out as loan earning about 15-20% and pay you 2% interest.

Money in the bank does not adjust for inflation. Let's take N100k for example. N100k in 2015 does not have the same purchasing power as N100k in 2021. Nigerian bank may pay 2% interest on it but will find ways to run the fund down through charges like sms notifications, stamp duty, NIP + VAT, etc. In other words, the bank will milk the whole fund through spurious charges.

Invest your money. Invest wisely.
