Z-yansh says hi. Tadic says hello. Wilfred Bony says wassup. Kezman says howdy.

You have to factor in the league in such situations. It is not automatic that because he is doing well there now that he will adapt to the the EPL.
I am making particular reference to Manchester United and how players who are excelling elsewhere come here only to struggle no thanks to our patternless play...Sancho and VDB being the latest...

Fair enough but Dutch league is truly suspect.

Check out all the recent Ajax stars : De Jong, De Ligt, Z-yansh. Which of them is really fulfilling the hype?

Then check out how Tadic became King Kong in that league.

Ever since Kezman flopped after bullying them in that league I knew not to make direct conversion.
Defending is optional over there.

We have our problems but the fact remains that one has to really scratch beneath the surface to ensure that the solid gold player you think you are getting from Eredivisie is not merely gold plated.

Well, I don't think De Jong is a flop, he is actually a very good CM...

Players from the league have struggled in recent times but in some cases, they have moved to the wrong team. I always thought De Ligt should have opted for Barcelona or City and not Juve...Ziyech has attitudinal problem so, that's personal but even then, when fit he does pop up with the goods...

VDB situation is entirely on Ole...

As for Tadic, I don't think he was a bad player at Southampton, I always thought he was one of their better performers.

There is a big jump between being “one of the better” players at ordinary Southampton to being a goal king at Ajax.

Not saying De Jong is a flop but he has not really dominated the way many of us expected.

De Ligt has struggled at Juve how do you know that he won’t have had issues at Barca as well.

What I am seeing from you are differently packaged excuses for each of them.

The relative lack of physicality in that league makes it so much harder to interpret performances there.

Also it is very risky to judge a player based on a Champion’s League purple patch for a club. Remember that Monaco team in which only Mbappe and Fabinho have lived up to expectations. Mendy, Sidibe, Lemar, Bakayoko have all fallen away.

Just because a player shines for a couple of games in a short tournament like the Champions League (or even the World Cup) does not mean he is the real deal. Especially players from backwater leagues. A bigger sample size is needed.

If you acknowledge this fact, why then do most fans choose to rate players off these short competitions?

I think every transfer is a punt, the Dutch league has produced some of the greatest players ever just the same way others from the league flopped...

I'd love to see VDB play consistently and watch De Jong play for a coach who prioritizes ball possession (fingers crossed on Xavi) as for De Ligt, I still think he should have joined a possession based team and not the Old Lady of Italian football...

Here is what I mean by that part you highlighted.

If a player is acknowledged as good or great based on his regular performances then has a great World Cup or UCL that could be used to separate him from his peers/rivals. He has merely reinforced what we all believed.

However if a player is completely or relatively unknown (or known as mediocre) but then has a monster tournament he is suspect as it is not in keeping with his usual performances. The chances that he is the next Salenko or Schillachi are high.

Talking about punts, every transfer is a punt but the odds vary based on the league and player.

The risk of buying the top scorer from La Liga is not the same as the risk of buying the top scorer from the Indian league. E get reason. The coefficients too get meaning.

Midfielders are judged by assists and chances created.

In a 433 midfielders are to maintain possession
Madrid Modric Kroos and Casemiro the midfield who dominated Europe in recent times which of them was known for assists and chances created

Iniester also functioned as an attacking midfielder.

Even Zidane who was an attacking midfielder did not have many goals. Sterling is not a striker but a winger/attacking midfielder.

Zidane was a midfielder in a 442 and his roles was different from those of attackers in 433

Zidane was also an attacker (attacking midfielder) like Lampard and Bruno Fernadez. Goals is not all about football

Zidane played 442 era not 433

If goals are used to determine attacking players, then sterling is greater than the following players:

Zidane
Ribery
Beckham
Figo

Zidane Figo Beckham are all 442 players unlike Sterling who played 433 and whose output is boosted by playing under Pep who creates a bucket load of chances

Sterling is no better than Rashford

Well dusan tadic did so well at the epl

Why are you surprised tadic is a king kong there ? Epl is a far better than the eredivisie so tadic will surely be more impressive there ,but he also did well at the epl

Under Mourinho

Kane 21 + 13 assists is less than 29+7

Kane scored 31 goals, 16 assists under Mourinho in all competitions which totals at 47 goal contributions in an incomplete season(Jose got fired a month before the season ended).

Kane’s productivity in 20/21 is more than his productivity in 16/17(42) and 17/18(46) under Poch. Therefore, Kane’s most productive season in his entire career was under Jose Mourinho(the talent destroyer).

Facts don’t care about your feelings. cheesy grin

When Mourinho won the UCL at Inter, what were the ages of the players? What were the ages of Chelsea regular players? Go and check and you see old men like Makalele, Essien, Ballack, Lampard, Maicon, Eto, etc

Apparently, if the rules permitted, Greenwood would have had his debut under Mourinho which goes against your old and tired narrative that Jose doesn’t like young players.

Once again, the facts reeled out by Nicky Butt here do not care about your feelings or the myths perpetrated out there by idiotic journalists that Jose Mourinho hates young players.

You were expecting them to hire Conte?

The revolution starts with buying players then they get a good coach that will be interested in managing them. See City’s turn around.

More money will definitely rescue them.

They're more than enough good players who are surplus to requirement at top clubs who can do a job for them but then, everything depends on their reality...

They should be targeting the likes of VDB, Icardi, Martial, Aoura, Coman, Bissouma etc

Hahahaha see excuse. Zidane was a number 10 which made him more directly at goal scoring function than Sterling. And Ribery played a more advanced central role than Sterling where he should have scored far more.

So based on your logic, Sterling is greater than Ribery

What I said is simple. Mourinho does not do well with a young team (bar Porto). I did not say he doesn't promote young players.

Mourinho does well with an experienced side. Individual players who can hold their own and make few mistakes while parking bus or protecting a lead
