As the Libyan conflict continues, prelets hide in the Sinai, and zombies scavange around Lake Chad "dooming West Africa" Ethiopia's unofficial Civil War rages on.

Recent reports comming in are stating that the Tigray rebels are now explicitly aiming to take the National Capital Addis Ababa. Just last week the rebels announced that they had successfully took Kombolcha a town a mere 7 1/2 hour journey from Addis Ababa.

The Tigray People's Liberation Front, rebels were making a move for two strategic cities. They have beat the military to take those two cities, and now they're moving south. And they've teamed up with another group of rebels, the Oromo Liberation Army. And both are now within a day's drive to the capital, Addis Ababa witnesses say.

Sights are now on the Eritrean Army who targeted refugee camps made up primarily of citizens from Eritrea who fled there own country to avoid forced military service & detainment do to there political standings in what many consider the "North Korea of Africa". The arrival of the Eritrean troops marked the beginning of a months long ordeal for thousands of Eritrean refugees first hunted by the Eritrean military, then attacked by Tigrayan fighters who accused the refugees of conspiring with the enemy.

Apparently Turkey may get involved do to a military cooperation agreement signed back in August by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. This is now fueling concerns that Turkish drones will be used in Ethiopia’s escalating civil war. Could Ethiopia be the next Libya or Afghanistan?

Eritrea going Full North Korea
Ethiopia possibly headed towards collapse or transgression with the leading power in Africa known as Egypt.
Somalia still ravaged by Al Shabaab
Djibouti silently partnering with Egypt.

Don't get me wrong it happens in war. However, modern sensor systems give a clearer picture of the battlefield to allow for tactical manoeuvres to prevent large scale surrender.

See how useless the SU25s and SU27s are?. I stopped arguing these issues because I found some people were just stuck on some old doctrines of warfare and the 'durability' of soviet equipment. Some guys would even have called the Ethiopian Airforce stronger than Nigeria's because of SU27s.

Hello Ethiopia, sensors are everything. Buy ISR gear. Look for supply lines to the rebels and bomb them. Use special forces creatively.
Converting information from as many sensors as possible into a broad picture of the battle space is the only way to do modern warfare.
You would be able to dodge the flanking moves and the feints. See where the enemy is hiding and determine what his objectives really are.

I'm suprised that an airforce with all those Sukhois would succumb so quickly to a rebel force. Seems, the Armed forces are still reading pre-cold war pamphlets. Verdammt, God save Ethiopia.

I know I'm not supposed to diss the Ethiopians, but I remember how some peeps here claimed the Ethiopian Airforce is by far better than our Airforce. We should really give our Armed forces alot of credits. We're really trying, but all we do is to compare it to the U.S,which is a Super Power. I know our "Government", is "sabotaging" our security forces through their policies atimes, but Nigeria would scale through.

How long does it take to maintain and retrofit aircrafts? The F7-NI and L-39 Albatros are taking a really long time that I'm almost suspecting the military doesn't want them back. Having them back at this time will be a huge boost to the upcoming offensive.

I don't think the aircrafts are useless, it's just the level of poor maintenance and repair culture of the force and also the su family of jets are expensive to operate due to the twin engines it uses, the fuel cost to fly that aircraft for five hours will be two times higher than that of our JF-17. Such aircrafts can only be used by nation's with large defense budget

Our military still has a lot to do interms of professionalism and training, but our guys are trying. They deserve a lot of credit.

Also our procurement of equipment has also been conducted in a sensible manner.

It's not by buying SU planes. The big question is, can you maintain them and keep them airworthy in the event of a conflict?

Procurement policies of the Nigerian Air Force and Navy have been worthy of praise and emulation.

what do you expect from a army with over 300k troops and a budget of $300 million?

Is that amount enough to cover training, or maintenance, wages or procurement of equipments?

I just laughed when one Ethiopian and a sudanese were comparing their military to Nigerias' military. We think experts rating of military over another is a joke abi?

Truth is hard sha. Most of the military in Africa are joke.

I don't think those aircraft are coming back. We haven't seen the M339 that left the country a long time ago. The best we can wish for now is the JF-17 block 3 and M346.

Funny, I recently had a dream Nigeria got Rafale. I felt as if I shouldn't wake up from the dream.

Nigeria rescues six people abducted from Abuja university

Nigerian security agents have rescued six people abducted by armed men from a university in Abuja this week, in what was a rare kidnapping at a higher education institution in the country’s capital, police said on Friday.

Gunmen abducted four members of staff and two of their children from the University of Abuja on Tuesday, which has led to increased military checkpoints in and around the city and stop and search operations by police.

Gangs of armed men, known locally as bandits, have since late last year carried out a series of abductions from schools and deadly attacks on villages, mostly in the northwest of the country, in return for ransom.

Abuja and the surrounding area, which have better roads and infrastructure than most of Nigeria, are usually considered among the safest parts of the country.

Abuja police spokeswoman Josephine Adeh Anipr said all those abducted were “reunited with their families through a joint operation with other security agencies.”

The university also confirmed the six had regained freedom.

Increasing lawlessness in the north and northwest and a 12-year-old Islamist insurgency in the northeast have stretched Nigeria’s security forces and heightened security fears in Africa’s most populous country.

A disturbed Ethiopia wont pose significant threat for Nigeria, Tigray guys are not terrorists but anti government rebels unlike Libya that was a beehive of Alqaeda, Daesh & other Takfiri fighters.
Mali's Anzawad insurgency mirrowed Libya's situation more.

If the Tigray guys succeed (very unlikely) they will form a government that will keep Ethiopia stable, already, US has warned they shouldn't invade Addis Ababa but remain within their disputed territory, Abiy Ahmed is already talking to Turkey & other coalition partners, if fruitful, will replay Russia's assistance to Assad as FSA inched closer to Damascus.

The refugee crisis will overwhelm Eritrea, Djibouti and perhaps Kenya, they surely not coming west, perhaps south or accross the Gulf of Aden.
Nigeria needs not worry about that.
