Obviously you don't know what that verse means... It wasn't referring to fasting. Read from verse 1. It was a reminder of what the Israelites passed through in the wilderness for forty years out of their disobedience and hard-heartedness to God's commandments. God purposely made them hungry for them to remember their God and turn towards him. Read it down and you'll understand. There's difference between reading and studying... Fasting goes with prayer even for the Muslims, that's what they do. Make una no dey confuse unasef...

What is prayer

Prayer is communication with God, communing with God.

Fasting is a means of subjecting ur body under.

Prayer is useless.

Fasting is unnecessary suffering hunger induced pain which is a more useless exercise.

Fasting, with or without prayer, is pointless and useless exercise.

If your god already knew what you wanted before you asked him in prayer form, why does he need you to starve yourself before granting you your wishes prayers? Only a psychopath will enjoy people starving before he answers them.

Would you ask your kid to starve himself if he begged for his school fees to be paid before you decide to pay it?

If your daughter has malaria, would you wait for her to even ask, not to talk of starving herself, before you rush to get her malaria drugs?

Think people! Think!

Don't quote me, if your cognitive dissonance will not allow the essence of my points to sink in your brain, I won't stress myself replying you!

You are mistaken talking to God as communicating with God. There is no how you will fast to God without communicating with God, and prayer in Christianity is communicating with God.
If this is complex for you, ask any good Bible student around you.

YES.
Re: Is Fasting Without Prayer A Meaningless Exercise? by Streetpriest1: 10:08am On Nov 07, 2021
Actually, fasting make it easier for u to go high in the spirit, thereby weakening the flesh. However you need prayers to actualize the need for fasting.

Some would be quick to respond in the affirmative, because they believe fasting must go with prayer, otherwise it would be a mere hunger strike.

But let's see what the Bible has to say about fasting to know if they have a case or not.

Deuteronomy 8:3 (KJV)

And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.

Now the above is a well known passage in the Bible that speaks about fasting, and it was actually from this passage that Jesus quote to the devil concerning fasting emanated from, when He was being tempted by the devil to eat, during His forty days and forty nights fast in the wilderness when He was said to be tempted of the devil. Matthew 4:4

From the passage, it could be observed that fasting itself has a purpose, and that purpose is that man shall not live by bread alone but by the Word of God. That is because bread is the food of the flesh but God's Word is the food of the spirit, and it's the Spirit that quickens and give eternal life, the flesh profits nothing but death. So the purpose of fasting is make us live by the Word of God which gives life.

But how does man live by God's Word? It is by keeping it, therefore that is the primary purpose of fasting and what it's meant to achieve in our lives.

Hence since fasting cannot be said to be a meaningless exercise even if it is without prayer, because it has a purpose if its own, and more so if that purpose is achieved by fasting alone.

For instance, if someone fasts so as not to sin or to overcome temptation just as Jesus did, and he achieves that purpose even without praying, it cannot be said to be a meaningless exercise or just hunger strike because the purpose of fasting which is the obedience of God's Word had been achieved.

It's all about the purpose, so even if someone doesn't just fasts but also prays, but the purpose of fasting which is that someone doesn't fall into temptation but obeys God's Word, which also happens to be the same purpose as that of prayer, was not achieved, the effort could be said to be meaningless and a failed exercise, because the purpose of fasting and prayer was not achieved in the person's life.

Matthew 26:41 (KJV)

Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

It is often said that when purpose is unknown, abuse is inevitable, this is the reason why despite the fact that many fast and pray, the purpose of fasting and prayer is usually defeated and made of no effect in their lives, because they know not the purpose of fasting and prayer.

Take Nigeria as a case study. Many Nigerians pray and fast, yet there is so much iniquity in the land, because many of those who pray and fast don't keep God's Word which ought to be the purpose of fasting and praying, so regardless, their prayer and fasting is meaningless and has no real effect in their lives.

Hence it is very important for those who pray and fast to know the purpose of prayer and fasting, which is the obedience of God's Word, so that the purpose of prayer and fasting is not defeated but fully achieved in their lives.

God bless.[/quote]

Fasting and prayers are very effective means of consecrating oneself and receiving victory over the self life.
More so, Jesus said some issues/problems doesn't go except with fasting added to your prayer.
I just concluded 7-day fasting and prayer and I what I've been trying to solve for over 5 years... I got the solution on the 2nd day of the fast. I have prayed about this issue and made several physical and psychological effort to get it solved. But just few weeks back I was inspired to fast and pray about it, and I did. Please I recommend fasting and prayers done in faith and absolute trust in God.

Biblically, Fasting isn't praying.

Fasting only subject ur flesh to be under, but prayers gives u access to God nd communion with God.

Fasting without praying is just waste of time bcuz after subjecting ur flesh to obey d voice of God, how do u commune with God without praying.

Fasting and prayer always go together, the moment you fast you must pray.
Re: Is Fasting Without Prayer A Meaningless Exercise? by Reference(m): 11:33am On Nov 07, 2021
Not only prayer but a deep dive into the Word.
Fasting is the place of communion/communication with God. That is the essential reason.
Prayer is speaking and the study of the Word is the usual path of reply from above.
If a person is not ready for both then it is better not to waste anyone's time.

In the world we live today, fasting or living a fasted life is extremely hard. The sacrifice involved goes beyond abstinence from food or water but more importantly involves giving ones time to the Word and prayer, hardly what you can do on the job, in business or other vocatiins . That is why the true Christian fast is rare and this is also why for those who purpose in their hearts to 'wait upon the Lord', they often receive the rewardmof their faiths in double quick time.

It is a real known fact in the faith that God Almighty responds quicker in our time than in biblical times when there was a lot less contemporary distractions even though they spent much more time with Him, in His Presence than the average Christian today. That is grace.

One thing I know about fruits fasting is that God will communicate with you through dreams in 7 days guaranteed...you can't miss it whether you pray or not. Fruits fasting opens the door of communication with God. Just fruits only...no cooked foods for 7 days.

The process also cleanse your system...your shit no go smell...you will become mentally alert and sound without any symptoms of previous diseases.

A vast majority of the comments so far have been from a spiritual standpoint. I am going to address this issue from a health standpoint. There is a concept known as intermittent fasting. One of the benefits of this practice, other than weight loss, is that it reduces insulin resistance, lowering your risk for type 2 diabetes. This and many more benefits are stated in this article below:
