Joe Igbokwe, a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has reacted to the performance of his party in the inconclusive gubernatorial election in Anambra State.

The Special Adviser for Drainage & Water Resources to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Sunday said the outcome of the governorship election where candidate Charles Soludo of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) is coasting to victory indicates that the Igbo people have resolved to remain onlookers at the national political scene.

Andy Uba of the APC came third trailing behind Valentine Ozigbo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), according to results from 20 local government areas so far announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The electoral body while declaring the race inconclusive said it will conduct a supplementary election in Ihiala LGA where election was said to have not taken place.

While wailing, the APC communication strategist said people from the South-East geo-political zone will continue to remain onlookers because what is holding them from joining national politics is extremely strong.

Mr Igbokwe wailed on his Facebook page Sunday night:

[quote]I HAD THOUGHT THAT IGBO WILL MOVE BEYOND ETHNIC POLITICS AND WORK TO CONNECT TO THE CENTER TO MEET OTHER NIGERIANS BUT ife ji Ndigbo jisi ha ike, WE WILL CONTINUE TO BE ONLOOKERS.

So we should vote APC and connect to banditry, poverty, nepotism and hunger. All APC candiates mostly in SE are rejected bandits with bad records.

This tinubukwe is mad man who derives joy in ridiculing his people.

During the time for campaign, he stayed in Lagos and never even bothered to campaign for Andy uba even on social media.

Now that the result is out he has started crying more than the bereaved.

If igbokwe was my father I would have disowned him for failing to tell us how IMO State has gained from the center.

Old man still doing notice me for what he will eat

The problem with ignoramus like Joe Igbokwe is that he believes that everyone must sleep and face the same direction, which clearly negates the crucial tenet of democracy. The fact that voters in Anambra chose to go the way of the All Progressive Grand Alliance doesn't mean they should be rendered onlookers by the government at the central just because they exercise their civic responsibilities and voted against the APC.

The truth is that Anambra State or any state for that matter doesn't need to CONNECT WITH THE CENTRE to develop infrastructurally and meet the social needs of its people. What every state needs is a LEADER
- with vision, roadmap and ability to make his team share the vision and accomplish the critical timelines of the roadmap to boost local economy and strengthen social services.
- with developmental ideas that can move from paper to reality
- with ability to shrewdly manage State resources as well as has ability to strengthen IGR base.

No matter how much noise Igbos make about being enterprising and wealthy, the truth is that South East is still largely under-developed infrastructurally and economically. The abysmal performance of most South East Governors, both past and present, has let the region down. Moreover, the wealthy Igbo businesspersons haven't really invested their idle money to set up businesses in the region to create jobs and boost local economy.

The harsh reality is that people from other regions on visit would only look around and wonder if there is any marked difference between their regions and SE region. There are much more to SOCIETAL DEVELOPMENT than beautiful houses built by individuals in villages.

We need many world class residential and industrial estates to complement Think-home philosophy. We need good roads with streetlights and CCTV to help fight crime. We need to abandon Nigeria standard. We need visionary Governors in Ala Igbo URGENTLY!

you like voting crooks to rule your land and Nigeria. That's why your country is the laughing stock worldwide..
Your APC projected a virulent kleptomaniac as the APC candidate in Anambra state. Your janja-weed party of vultures and hyenas can't ever produce a good man to contest any election... And you want the people of Anambra to vote such a shame of a candidate into the government house, just because he's from the presidents party, Over an erudite scholar like Soludo? Primitive thinkers..

The Igbos are actually confused & tactless politically and it will take then time to clinch the number one seat in Nigeria.

The only obvious fact there is that the PDP suit their ideology, but unfortunately they are not able to even entrenched the party in their own domain.

They'll ever be the onlookers in the scheme of things in the center. I'd hope they're enjoying been left out of security meetings in the country.

Apart from Lagos, which other south west state is enjoying massive development despite being connected to the center ?

Have you been to the south east villages to see the kind of beautiful houses that chinedu in ABA, Ifeanyi in Owerri, Chinonso in Ebonyi, Peter in Enugu built from there sweat without the center support..?

The south east people don't rely on the government to do anything for themselves like south west and that's why they don't really care much

In south west, we depend on federal government to do everything for us, but not the same in south east .

Your comment shows that you are sympathetic to Buhari's nepotistic ruling.
So, you whose region is represented, are you better than the east security wise?

Igbokwe should mindful of his comments towards his tribe,
I am not from Anambra. If you have been following previous Anambra Elections you will understand that the people of Anambra always vote on personality not political parties.
Why didn't APC present a Candidate that Anambra people trust as a true son of the soil.

It's better a monkey is voted than APC particularly with the kidnapping, corrupt tout they presented.
If other states and people use the Anambra template and vote based on a party's performance, the pedigree of the candidate it's presenting and the performance of the party nationally, with INEC playing it's part by ensuring only real votes count using BVAS or another advanced, full proof mode of actual voters verification, then Nigeria would have taken a giant leap into democracy by ensuring mandates are given based on real votes.
