Hello everyone on this group. My name ist Moyo and I’m currently doing an MBA at Coventry London. Please I need heads-up in getting a job. Living in London which is pretty expensive is overwhelming for me and it’s been hard getting a job. Getting here in September I did some security job which at the end I wasn’t paid what I deserved because as usual the 'Nigerians' at the helm showed who they are made of. Had to stop it, not cause I could t handle the jobs but the wickedness of these people that feel like mini God. I’ve applied for several Amazon warehouse jobs but they all want full time and not students. Anyone got ideas on getting a job? Only got classes twice in a week and the other days free. I wouldn’t mind anyone in London who can guide me through as it’s been me alone tryna find a path in this cloudy route and it’s not been easy.

It is not illegal for you to study in the UK on a Tier 2 visa, being completely online does not matter one bit.

I would say it is better off focusing on specialist courses instead of a general computer science, courses in Data, CyberSec, Full Stack, etc will benefit you more.

Also, take note that if he is studying in a Uni, then his fee will be much different from yours and lastly do not be moved by what someone brags about. Find your own passion and route. Odabo

Thanks alot for this I appreciate

Any form of education especially in tech is worth it. You’re not after the certificate but the tech knowledge to get a tech job. So it being online doesn’t matter, if anything it means you can do it conveniently while working on your T2.

Wish you well.

Good morning house. How are you all doing? My brother got an offer from a big 4 accounting firm in the UK but the role he is being offered is less than the role he is applied for due to his professional qualification. However, in Nigeria, he works for a big 4 accounting firm and should be a manager in a few months time. The naira equivalent of what he will be paid in the UK is almost same with what he currently earns in Nigeria. Is it worthwhile for him to accept the UK offer considering he has a wife and 2 children. Thanks house.

No.
He should reject the offer, write them a stinker for making him such an offer and stay back in Nigeria.

Hi I also worked in Big 4 back home and now in the uk. I would advise he takes his ACCA exam instead and reapply afterwards. Trust me when I tell you if he takes that offer he will be stuck in that position for the next two to three years. Better for him to be ACCA qualified and reapply as a manager. I repeat, don’t he dare take assistant manager or senior associate. Except he is ready to be there for two years or more

These companies don't take a huge chunk of the profits.

So for example, Justeat or Deliveroo offers you a job (order) of £5 for a 1 mile trip that is what you will be paid after delivery.

The downside of this Job is more peculiar to the car riders eg traffic, food insurance and wear and tear of their cars. However, car riders get paid £1 more for petrol.

The best tool for this job are moped and electric bike. I use ebike btw.

NB. This is not a long term plan job.

Our tech mummy.

I have watched so many tech videos of newbies and how they got into tech. Specially those that claim 6months was all it took them.
Honestly I don't think I have the slightest idea of what a CV for a tech dude should look like.
I am a Frontend dude. Basically HTML, CSS & small JAVA.
One thing I have come to understand from the videos I have watched is you don't have to know ALL about the field you in as there is room for growth secondly they would love to see a completed job on previous work.(I HAVE NONE) On this not I am considering hosting a responsive page for my LHASA-APSO dog.
My Wife's COS just arrived for her UK nursing job and I should be joining her in a month or 2.

1.Do I start applying from 9ja or wait till I reach then apply to areas close to her?

2. Can you help me with a sample CV.
3. What other tip would you suggest to me.
I am open to suggestions o our tech mummy

It is interesting that the offer is similar to what he earns in Nigeria. That means Big 4 in UK pay low salary. I am also thinking he should not accept the offer.

On the other hand, Is it possible for him to ask for a revised salary? Let him explain to the HR that it will be a pay cut for him to take up the offer. They might reconsider the offer

What location in the UK? Is it in London? Are there work opportunities in the UK for the wife as well? Is the wife working in Nigeria?
He might consider using the Big 4 as a way of getting into the UK and then change job within 2 years (please this might not work out though).
Your brother needs to review the short and long run pros and cons and then decide.

First, please understand that there is no set timing for moving into tech. Some might spend 6 moths, some will be less and some will be more. Several factors determine the transition period.

There are opportunities for Frontend guys, you might as well decide to push it up to full stack if you like but that will be you topping up your skills.

In as much as it is impossible to know ALL about the field, it is vital to have some basic knowledge and also have basic skills required to perform several tasks. Learning is continuous. You might try to develop a portfolio/GitHub profile as this will show potential employers that you have such experience or undertaken such projects.

I would say you should do all your preparations (CV/Portfolio) and begin to apply once you get in as most guys like to contact you immediately they see your CV to understand your position and also discuss more about the job. Also bear in mind that lots of employers seek 'UK' experience but this should not stop you. You might also like to do a bit of volunteering if you like.

Sample CVs can be downloaded online and then you can fine tune it or get someone to assist with that.

Good luck to you my friend.

Both in America and UK they don't pay great ... not today, it been like that for ages. I worked briefly with one of the big 4 consulting (you definitely can earn way more with other firms) but their training is top-notch. ..I came out of it like a well-oiled machine . So pick your battle

Maybe you state what range this salary is and what city.... with that someone can guide better

However if he takes it, it can never be a negative for his cv, only a plus as most of their candidates tend to be very good. Especially their product that has stayed and trained with them... so changing jobs won't be an issue. However if its Tier 2, then he can't really change until maybe after the 5 years so its to check if that salary can be managed for 5 years then he moves.....he should find out what the pay for that job range to guide him as well

Nigeria insecurity is on the rise with cost of living . While education and many other things is on decline plus many other things... so factoring everything if you see and opportunity to move. Why not .... although naija sweeter for soft life

But he already works in the company and all he is doing is essentially inter company transfer but to a lower grade and similar salary. This effectively means a pay cut if given the lower cost of living and taxes in Nigeria. I suggest he stays and get a role equivalent to what he's at now before moving.
