Why didn't he tell us how much it is to read mass communication ( 5 thousand dollars to 79 thousand dollars) theatre arts or even sociology in the UK and lets see if its not still expensive so that we also tell those studying such courses to also prepare to stay 9years before leaving the country for greener pastures

Nobody is flying their airplanes into the country to poach them.

When the time comes, that would be addressed.

Nigeria has become a training ground for professionals who would benefit other foreign societies.

This is not just about Doctors but all professionals in Nigeria.

We are mostly trained for "free" in Nigeria, then owing to the poor renumeration in the country, many who are already gainfully employed here resign to go take up job offers abroad, without having to take student loans like their peers abroad who are still paying back from their salaries.

We work with them in their Google, or Microsoft, or Apple offices, in their law firms and hospitals, unknown to us that the salary we enjoy, they use to offset the student loans that got them the degree.

We just earn the same salary as them in their country, and have no student loan to worry about.

In Nigeria, you can be the child of a cleaner/janitor and pass through university with a lot of discomfort, but without owing a penny by the time of graduation. Abroad, the child of a janitor without a scholarship (academic or sport), is only in the university doing similar janitorial work.

Story for the gods you can't wickedly impoverish people through your political demonic embezzlement and expect people not to seek for greener pastures abroad. The first Law should be to ban all politicians from taking medical tours abroad, then we will take the demons serious. Wicked evil people that don't value their citizens, but do now allow those that value their services to enjoy. Bleep off

Nigeria don't value their qualified personels

Thats the truth.
Imagine a doctor graduating and he ends up working in a chemist

What am saying is,if Nigeria can engage the docs in meaningfup things they won't even think of leaving Nigeria, but they leave bekas of the way they get treated

That's where you're wrong. My problem with you is the unequal comparison you are subjecting Nigeria to. So you expect Nigerian students to obtain student loans like other countries. For what exactly. What are the loans justifying? Our sub par archaic educational system?, our non existent facilities?, Have you gone to our medical schools? Have you gone to teaching hospitals? So what should they be taking loans for. We already know we are in high shortage of medical personnels so Nigeria as a whole can't afford to unsubsidize medical education because then only wealthy folks would attend medical school which would further deepen the deficiency we already have. Abroad they already have systems in place that demands student loans. Functional healthcare systems an facilities, fully equipped medical colleges. These costs money so student loans are a must to see them through. Jobs with great renumeration waiting immediately they are done. Welfare packages etc. Please you and your minister should should take your biased out of touch mindset to the sewers. Face Nigeria's reality and fix our whole healthcare/ educational system because if you think that this declaration would stop the Exodus, you are jonzing.

This million-dollar question is, "why is everybody running away from this country". When this government fixes the things making our young professionals to run, believe me this mass exodus will end. People have always been leaving Nigeria for abroad but it has never been in a high scale as we're currently witnessing, and that means something is wrong somewhere

I heard that from a doctor too...they are virtually trained for free when compared to what they pay outside Nigeria.

However, govt needs to do more to create an enabling environment for doctors..

Whether you like it or not, doctors are in high demand and badly needed....they will keep leaving if you don't do the needful.

Wow! So, what is your point? Are you saying Nigeria is better?

You honestly why some Nigerians are like this? Someone who sat down in his stupid cubicle and be writing epistle of RUBBISH.

How many children of a janitor do you see that are out of school in a sne clime like the US?

Yes, they collect loan for schooling and that is a very good way to ease the parents but that doesn't mean they can't afford it. It all depends where the child wants to school.

Yes, there are heless people globally but in most cases in a sane clime, it is hardly poverty. It might be drug abuse, illegal immigration and the rest.

Comparing a saner clime education system to this country makes you sound somehow.

I am saying in Nigeria you can be poor and still afford to go to the university and graduate debt free without any form of scholarship.

I am also saying the societies we lose these set of Nigerians to, have their own citizens continue to pay student loans from the same salary we enjoy with them, having acquired our own qualifications in Nigeria without such debts.

Those 2 statesments above are facts devoid of emotions.

Those who have so benefited from the merits of the cheap education in the Nigerian system without the demerits of poor pay, while still benefitting from the merits of good job pay abroad without the demerits of very expensive qualifying education, are the winners while the losers are those who do not navigate across the 2 existing systems at the right entry points.

I partly agree with you but we're still not addressing the root cause of the problem. Why are these people leaving their country of nationality/origin?

When last did your president receive treatment in Nigeria? How many state governors receive medical treatment in their state?

How many top public officials use the public hospitals?

Why is this trend okay while we frown at underpaid and underappreciated doctors wanting to leave the country to go and work at those hospitals where our politicians patronize?

If there's gonna be a bond on medical practitioners to serve for 9 years before leaving, then past and present public servants must be denied the right to leave the country for medical tourism. Anyone of them who broke the law should be heavily sanctioned with huge fine and jail term.

way to go education should be invested heavily into just like the privates and money for fees should be like privates and student loans should be involved, salary improved and automatic employment for good grades. Scrapping of skills acquisition centers owned by privates. Government should own skills acquisition centers if you can’t afford university go to a skill acquisition center and licensed them on graduation immediately anyone without the license should not practice be it mechanic, tailor, barber electricians and the likes . Scrap wetin? Abeg nothing private should be scrapped.

A private sector driven nation is the only sustainable nation. Government must wash its hands off running of business. That's why Nigerian society is this corrupt. Government does belong to anyone but private business belongs to someone, hence private businesses are always better managed

Have you compared the standards?
Students over there get exposed to a lot of good equipments that can help their learning, how many of such is obtainable here? How about the learning environment. Is it the same?
Even the lecturers are not well trained. They are just regular medical doctors and consultants with no lecturing degrees. Everybody just dey rough am. Thanks to smart Nigerians. And the lecturers are not even well paid by the government.
So what the students pay here is commensurate to the service rendered.
Let's not even talk about minimum wage.

I am sure I suffer as much as every other Nigerian regarding the shortcomings of our successive governments.

Iike I opined, it is not just a medical sector issue. It is prevalent across all industries in Nigeria.

We continually lose our human resources that are cheaply trained, to societies who have made education very expensive but with good rewards.

Ask yourself why that Doctor or Engineer dit not struggle to be admitted to Imperial college or MIT, but was instead satisfied with the affordable education at Unilag where yearly tuition is not up to $100. Yet that same Unilag graduate wants a $100,000 salary in the US where his colleagues are still paying the student loan for the same medical or engineering degree that got them the job.

If any Nigerian considers himself deserving of the better pay abroad, he/she should also ensure that the qualifying degree was obtained at the cost required for such abroad.

Contrary to that misinformed minister's claim. Nigeria is not the only country where education is free. Germany. Sweden. Finland to mention but a few offer free education to their citizens up to the post graduate level.

America is not the only the developed nation out there. And even then you can't compare the quality of education at an American University to the piss poor, overly cramped, one microscope to 50 students campuses we have in Nigeria.

And no, the child of a Janitor is not cursed to follow in his father's footsteps because unlike you bastards in this country who subjugate uneducated workers, Janitors in America probably earn more than your father and his neutered kin have ever made in their lives. I'm not even kidding https://www.indeed.com/career/janitor/salaries

When you are done hyperventilating, you would realise that whoever wants cheap education and cheap service delivery, should never complain about poor remuneration.

I work in the Oil industry having previously worked in Telecoms.

I know what the likes of cheap Huawei did to the service industry in Telecoms, by providing the telecom operators cheaper services that resulted to poorer staff welfare, and for their competitors like Ericsson, Siemens, Alcatel-Lucent etc to stay afloat, they also had to overhaul their staff compensation strategies.

Same thing cheap Indians and Chinese are already doing to the Oil industry.

Lastly, are you ready to adjust to the tax rate of the Scandinavian countries you have so glowing mentioned that offer free education up to the tertiary level?

A Nigerian earning more than N1m monthly is still bypassing his electric power meter so he can get to pay N10k monthly, while his actual bill should have been N30K which is still very affordable.
