Alright. Enough.

I'm George Chidi. I'm an investigative journalist of Nigerian descent, living in Georgia. I write for The Intercept and appear on local television in Atlanta. I am familiar with Douglas County, criminal justice issues in Georgia and the mechanisms of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab.

Google me. I'm easy to find.

A friend contacted me to take a look at this. The claims of Adedoja Bah do not stand up to cursory examination. He was convicted not as a matter of mistaken identity, but because DNA found at the scene matched his own. He's arguing that the tests were flawed, but a court ruled that they were not: the testing mechanism is the gold standard and the very best available. Here's the ruling: https://www.cybgen.com/information/admissibility/Bah2019.pdf

I would be the first person to advocate for someone convicted out of racial bias in Georgia. It exists. But that's not what happened here, and certainly not in Douglas County, which is not the rural banjo-playing south. It's a relatively affluent suburb of Atlanta that voted 2-to-1 for Joe Biden last year. There are parts of Georgia where justice for a Black person can be immediately questioned. Douglas County isn't one of them. It's the Nigerian equivalent of Ota or Lekki when talking about Lagos. He's trying to make it sound like he was arrested in Maiduguri.

The Georgia prison system is, indeed, terrible. It is unsanitary and dangerous -- and extremely so for people who commit crimes against children. His life is legitimately at risk. And so, I can imagine why he would look for some way to get out of prison.

But he did it. He's guilty of the crime. His protests are self-serving lies by a man with nothing but his life left to lose.

Dear Mr George Chidi,

Thank you for stopping by and I am also glad to know that you are investigative journalist and also you do understand the way of criminal justice system.

However even though you claimed to be an investigator it seems to me that the only thing you have investigated so far is the report that was put out by my prosecutor.

As an investigator have you taken a moment to look at the evidences I have provided?

You said they don't matter right?

Yet the GPS is an evidence that people have used to prove their innocence, even after conviction.....but in my case you said it does not matter right?

2, What was the result of your investigation in regards took the phone call and alibi at the same time I was suppose to be assaulting the young girl, could you explain your hypothesis to nairalanders?

3, You claimed my DNA was found at the crime scene, but you failed to read the testimony by GBI that says " We can not conclude that Mr Bah Is the contributor of the DNA found in the vagina"
If it is not Mr. Bah then who?

It seems you have some other result that I have never seen.....you may as well provide the report you read here.

I expect a man of your caliber to dig deeply into provided information before making a conclusion.

Did you even bother to take a look at defense expert testimony where the expert concluded that the profile of the alleles found in the vagina is totally different from allele profile of Mr. Bah and that exclude Mr Bah, that tesimoney was based on GBI data......doesn't that prove to you that the result released by the prosecution was actually FALSE REPORT.

Your conclusion lack basic iota of professionalism ,unless you can prove my evidences otherwise.

The evidences i have provided were part of 1200 pages court record that 1stGenAmerican refered to, maybe you should study the evidences and come back to prove them otherwise One by One.

Thank you

GeorgeChidi:
I have looked at the "evidences" you've provided in this thread.

You're full of shit. Straight up.

I mean, I get it. People are getting shanked and murdered all around you in the state prison at Coffee County. The Georgia prison system is falling apart, and prison gangs have effectively taken over state prisons because of the labor shortage with guards. You can get your hands on a cell phone because things are that loose right now. Those prison gangs take a very, very dim view of child rapists. You fear for your life, so you're reaching out any way you can hoping someone will get you out.

You've lied like hell through much of the posts here. You were defended by a public defender, and didn't spend your own money on your defense. You challenged the DNA evidence -- because it was a close enough match to you to overcome the doubts of a judge and jury. The victim identified you in court as the attacker. There is no meaningful doubt about your guilt. Nonetheless, I have a phone call out to the district attorney and a records request to the Douglas County courthouse for the full transcript.

With that kind of evidence, you leaving your phone somewhere else while committing the crime -- your "GPS" evidence -- doesn't matter. Minor questions about whether or not you were able to ditch your clothing don't matter. Nothing you've said overcomes the strength of the evidence presented in court, or demands that I "investigate" any further than this.

You were convicted fairly. You are no longer entitled to a presumption of innocence, particularly on the strength of this evidence.

You think you're going to die in jail, and soon. I sympathize with that fear. You were sentenced to life in prison, not to be garroted by a murderer in a dark corner of a prison hall. But you belong in prison.

Re: Follow Up: Nigerian Locked Up for the Case of Rape —The Walk, The End. by MMotimo: 12:41am On Nov 15, 2021
GeorgeChidi:
My suggestion would be to sympathize with a man living in dangerous conditions in a Georgia prison, but not to accept his self-serving arguments for his innocence. He's guilty.

Here's the thing with DNA evidence: if it's not you, it's usually really obvious. You don't have to prove it with deep statistical analysis. It's just ... not there. What they had was close enough to present to a jury, "inconclusive" only by a narrow technical reading of the law and the science. That's why he tried to get a court to throw it out: as evidence, it's solid enough.

Again: the victim testified. I'm going to read this transcript, and read this testimony. Every new comment in this thread re-victimizes a 13-year-old girl.

I am arguing loudly that most of the people in prison in Georgia should be released right now on humanitarian grounds. I wouldn't make that argument for Bah today, based on what I've seen. He should never be a free man again.

Thanks for your input.

Please, when free, try revisit the case again using these facts:

1. As opposed to what you said, there was actually no in-court identification. Yes, it was falsified!

2. The jury never heard the DNA weren't his...he was standing for himself then (story for another day). The judge prevented his DNA expert from testifying!

3. He was deemed guilty even before the court said so.

4. Do you know him in person? You sound like he has done it before and you bailed him!

I do not mean to disrespect you but I wish to provoke your mind! The best way to help is checking two facts! You hate the figure who raped the minor, yes, it's normal! Don't let it becloud simple judgements and human reasoning! People who were set-up also look guilty! How do people set-up prove themselves innocent? Wear those fccking shoes too!

With due respect, if you cannot help, don't add to injury! We summoned you to help...not play the devil. Whoever you are, it's all six feet for us all!

You would reduce your temper to check possible facts if it were your brother in jail! You wouldn't tell him he'll die there because the court facts said so!

Professional journalism is when you discover what the court didn't want others to know! Not being grandiloquent on already known facts with abysmal insults that would weaken one's bone!

Who am I? I am nobody! I'm a crazy lazy dude on the street of Lagos hating on direct insults to injuries! Yes, and that's why you think nobody is nobody to you! I guess you are feeling pained and want to exercise your “connectedness”...that's what it feels to be accused wrongly!

An investigator tries to let the defendant know beyond all reasonable doubts that there are guilty! To help, they proffer solutions if they think the defendant is repentant at least!

You just came in and pronounced judgement like you live in heaven!

Do you even know what he is asking for? He is not asking to be innocent! He only needs the momentum so his case can be revisited and due process followed! That's all he is asking! If he is guilty, wouldn't it end the same way!

Whether Lagos or Maiduguri in Georgia, human government and system is not PERFECT!

I provoke you to read! It seems you only read to rewrite and not read to discover!

I provoke you to wear those shoes!

I provoke you to show the whole world you were the journalist who spoke out for due process!

Yes, I provoke you that you can do better beyond your emotions!

I put it to you....you are going to do the right thing!

I am now done provoking you! Don't bother replying because I am SORRY! cry

Thank you!

I believe 12 jurors spent the better part of a week hearing evidence during a trial and unanimously -- and quickly -- voted to convict him. A jury conviction is a powerful statement of guilt that requires more than a cursory claim of innocence to ignore. The burden of proof shifts to Bah to prove his innocence after that kind of conviction, and he's not meeting that burden, since everything he's arguing would have been evident to those 12 jurors.

He also has tremendous incentive to lie like hell right now, given what he's facing in prison.

There's no point in arguing half-measures: you can't sort-of-rape a 13-year-old girl, and there's no real provision for leniency in sentencing given the conditions. The only way he ever gets out of prison is by arguing that the state broke its own laws prosecuting him. And, again, he isn't offering sufficient evidence of that, because that's a high hurdle to leap.

Yeah. He did it. I can say that because a jury said it.

Surprised some still don't understand the character Chatinent, examples of how he fabricated stories on behalf of his friend-for-hire are too many to recall

Chatinent even claimed: "there was actually no in-court identification. Yes, it was falsified!" were his exact words!

This is not an error of judgement but a deliberate act by a self-confessed professional to lead people on, claiming you have read the 1200 pages transcript, and certain he is not only innocent but victim of racism and as evidence say so

What sort of professional is that, a professional liar apparently

"You cannot compel me to share or paste some confidential 1200 documents to you just because you want to verify sth. The document already says the rape happened! All we were doing from frontpage was arguing the rapist couldn't have been Bah using evidences provided to refute the claims" Deliberate concealment by Chantinent and you still want to believe he didn't have a plan along; believe it and believe anything!

Re: Follow Up: Nigerian Locked Up for the Case of Rape —The Walk, The End. by JayEntaur(m):
Hello everyone,

I actually stopped commenting on this thread at a point, because I wasn't comfortable with a number of things. But now, for posterity sake, I think I should say something.

Initially I thought to give the convict - Powerhouse5050 the benefit of the doubt, against my better judgment. Though I felt there was no way he could be innocent and then be given that kind of sentence, but as a scientist you learn to give that 0.001% for human errors.

At no point did I get to read the court transcript . I only saw the snippets posted here. I reached out to 1stGenAmerican to share her's with me, so as to enable me get the true picture and not rely on the self-serving snippets posted here by Bah. However, she didn't reply my message and later stated here on the thread that her reason for not replying messages was because the email linked to her NL account was a very important one, so she couldn't reply messages except she could change the email. This I totally understood. I could have reached out to Powerhouse5050 and Chatinent for the transcript, but I didn't want to communicate with either of them.

This brings me to another point. I stopped commenting on this thread for 2 major reasons:
First was that Chatinent tried to shame GeorgeChidi (using his autobiographical, satirical piece) for having a dissenting view. That he couldn't even figure out that George wrote that himself, and only backtracked after being called out by I and DanseMacabre showed that if he couldn't get something so obvious, couldn't see the forest for the trees, how could he then confidently say he went through the transcript, understood all he read and that Bah was innocent?
Second reason was that Powerhouse5050 tried sending me a DM (which I wasn't at all comfortable with, for reasons I'll explain below) , and of course since we don't follow each other here, I would have to accept the message request before he can contact me. I never accepted the message request, so he couldn't communicate with me. Thank God for the NL feature that doesn't allow just anyone have access to one's mailbox willy-nilly.
Why did I do this? I know there's no prison that allows an inmate to possess a mobile phone. So since Bah has one, or access to one, he's breaking the law again and corresponding with him makes one an accomplice - Chatinent take note of this part, because I said this majorly for you . You know he's in prison, you know he's not supposed to have a phone, and you've been exchanging messages with him. Are you aware of the saying that ignorance isn't an excuse under the law? You have to up your critical thinking skills.

In conclusion, yes nobody is perfect but that doesn't justify crimes, let alone one as heinous as this. So, let's stop taking that saying out of context! How can you even rape an adult against her will, let alone a 13 year old CHILD?! Powerhouse5050, that was very despicable of you and this your unremorseful, unrepentant, dubious, 'smart' mentality is what the Judge saw that made his Lordship throw the book at you. You've done the crime, now do the time. Admit your guilt, apologise to your victim, and ditch the phone. Find God and find peace. I will continue to pray for you.

Re: Follow Up: Nigerian Locked Up for the Case of Rape —The Walk, The End. by 1stGenAmerican(f):
Among other things, this thread has become a testimony of character of sorts. The people who have actively participated in it have, whether consciously or subconsciously, revealed their true character however that fact will only be important to those who are of strong and principled character. All others will fail to see the bigger picture.

Several times, this thread brought me to tears but not because of the obvious. Many lessons can be learned here and one of the most important is how the course of events here can be likened to Nigeria, the current state that it is in, and it’s future.

There are a few evil, diabolical minds that form a hierarchy of sorts. They are motivated by greed and power and put forth strong effort only into actions that are sinister such as manipulating the thoughts, emotions, and actions of others who may be weaker. These diabolical and manipulative minds are not the brightest however they are the most vocal, most arrogant, and most corrupt. The majority is charmed by their ways which speak to their greed, fear, or weakness and those in that majority soon take up the cause of the corrupt minds manipulating them. This majority becomes resistant and blind to the truth even when their instinct tells them better. They refuse to take a stand and feel strong because while they are being used and cheated, they feel strong as a part of the majority. They will follow blindly while staunchly resisting all that is good.

Then there is the small minority that are critical thinkers with minds that are truly open. They have the ability to look past all that is flashy, popular, and influential because what they seek is truth, equity, righteousness, and progress. They can’t be corrupted by money, ego, fame, or influence. The voices of this strong minority who has the power to move mountains and make changes always seems to get drowned out by the majority who are doing the bidding of the corrupt. Although the suffering of the body as a whole will be long and destructive, the only chance for change and improvement are those in that very small minority for they are truly the light that is capable of bringing hope to such a dark and dire circumstance. Nigeria can only become great with those in that very small minority at its helm.

Being of good character allows one to discern and extract truth and fact while recognizing and rejecting lies. It also allows one to admit fault and move forward. Unfortunately, many that walk this earth will never have this ability.

The most dangerous people in the world are those who cannot admit to a lie and ask for grace. Instead, they will call the lie an oversight, a miscommunication on your part, or a mistake and will attempt to gaslight you into believing that the lie was never told when evidence of such still exists. Avoid such people at all costs because they have the power to dim and eventually extinguish your light.

I only read the first line of this before and didn’t bother with the rest. Now, I have some time.

“ Nobody holy pass” has become the excuse for a multitude of sins - yahoo yahoo, money ritual, polithiefing, influencer profiteering, etc. Nobody holy pass is the reason why you would without a second thought become the mouthpiece of a child rapist abi? And assume that everyone else would do the same thing if they had the opportunity, ko?

@bolded: Some of you think everyone on here grew up the same way you did with zero moral compass. I’m not the epitome of perfection but understand that you and I do not belong in the same class when it comes to morals and scruples. You don’t have to believe me but hear this- My mother put the fear of lying and stealing into her children at a very early age. That is why till tomorrow, myself and my siblings do not lie and do not steal nor bear false witness. Yet, without exception, God has prospered us and blessed our offspring in ways we could not even imagine. Through it all, not one of us has ever been involved in any sort of criminal behaviour or aided criminality. God has prospered us through the work of our hands without us identifying with rapists and criminals.

“Oruko rere san ju wura lo” a good name is better than gold
Ranti omo eni ti iwo nse remember the child of whom you are
Evil communication corrupts good manners

The above and more are what we heard from older family members and friends when we were growing up. These are everlasting values that we teach and preach to our own children. These are the values upon which we were raised. Ultimately, even without those, God has blessed each person, INCLUDING YOU with a sense of right and wrong.

Go back and read about my $1 example on the previous page. Like I’ve said before, ALL WAY NO BE WAY! That is why lots of us have lived abroad for decades and never seen the inside of a police vehicle or a jail or even been interrogated or become a suspect in any crime. Hustling to make ends meet is not a crime but hustling that is completely devoid of scruples and the basics of human decency is. That you would even consider hustling on the back of a 13 year old rape victim is particularly egregious!

The tribalism on Nairaland is bad enough, it is disastrous that rapists, their apologists and all manner of perverts have created a thriving community on this site. To the extent that characters like yourself with a “followership base” see nothing wrong with capitalizing on said Nland yeyebrity influence to advance the cause of a duly convicted and unrepentant serial sex offender.
