Since I got Type 1 Diabetes in 2011, I can't eat these cereals. I can only eat foods like millet, wheat, oat, unripe plantain, wheat bread but I can't afford any of them now. I'm in the worst state of my life now.

Very strange that just 6 months later few of the Teachers were already chronically Diabetic. By 10 months Epidemic of Diabetis has hit the School before their eyes opened to the fact that leaving Fufu, Amala, Garri, etc for Oyinbo man's GMO foods comes with dire Consequences. cry By then, it was too late because Diabetis is often a terminal dieases.

Also, may be African genes enjoys eating African. Even many Whites are relocating to Ghana and Tanzania because GMOs being forced down their throats in their Countries.

Just a question, and this is not from a place of disrespect. There are a lot of so-called "improved" varieties of cassava. Is it impossible that these "improved" varieties could have been genetically modified to improve their yield?

Muesli should do it.

So sorry to hear that bro.

Diabetes is a real btch. I was diagnosed as being prediabetic a while back but beat it back to normal by quite some lifestyle adjustments, dietary changes, alternative meds (supplements) and sheer grace of God. I watch what I eat now but I still sneak in some wholesome Muesli every now and then.

Hope you get some real help fast.

Probably you could download Reddit in your App Store, register and start following some good communities like r/Diabetes
r/Prediabetes
r/FastingScience

There's gonna be a whole lot of stuff ya can't eat, can't do, can't drink etc for now (and probably forever) but living strong, well and not developing other complications should be the goal right now. It's pretty tough luck Naija economy seems to have really tanked rn and spending power's otherwise cheap Zero-Sugar cereal alternatives like the ones we have here shouldn't be so scarce in the Motherland where grains are natural and harvests used to be bountiful. undecided

Don't just stay on the Metformin and meds alone, supplements help too.

(I want to believe there'd be African herbs that should help though most haven't been properly synthesized and pharmaceutically tested in double-blind placebo (peer-reviewed) research settings (both animal and human trials) but keep consulting with your Doctor and don't give up.

Have faith and take care.

Calling them children's food is a big mistake. They are very good cereals for adults especially the Quaker oats and the (Nasco) Cornflakes!

Kellogg's is the original cornflakes...it entered production long before the founder of NASCO was born.(around 1894, the founder of NASCO was born in the early 1930's)

But the fact that you like Nasco shows that NASCO did a very good job with their cornflakes.

I grew up with Nasco in the early 90's

These Kelloggs just started popping out in the 2000's

They taste funny.

Like someone mentioned, the foreign one taste better.

I haven't tried that

Kellogg's has been available in Nigeria...the problem was prior to 2000, it was imported, very expensive, and found in specialty supermarkets like Leventis, Kingsway and UTC.(The shoprite of those days). NASCO was cheap and widely available.

Also, if you were fortunate to have a relative residing abroad who came back with some boxes of the stuff on visits home

(I really miss the 1980's...)

The healthiest of all regardless of your age and gender is the Oats! The rest are dead and junk foods.
Eat Oats as your breakfast and if you are financially buoyant, mill it into powder and use it as your (Elubor) swallow.
