Crazybeard: Portuguese met Manilla at Calabar! Calabar call it Okpogho! Okpogho is a town in Enugu State. Okpogho is AA blacksmiths town that minted Okpogho! Okpogho Manilla were found in Igbo Ukwu excavation that is dated 9th and 10th AD. The Nri identified all the objects found there including Okpogho. Connect the dots. 4 Likes |

Christistruth00:Cassava was introduced in 16th century my dear. Besides, most slaves (more than 50%) of slaves in Brazil are from Angola and Congo And returned slaves are more pronounced in Liberia and Sierra leone than any other west African country. Let me educate you, Akara and Moi Moi are made from mashed beans not Cassava. So what have you Yorubas made out of cassava since 500 years it was introduced to you people? Ndigbo made Akpụ, Abacha, kokoro etc from it so what have you people made out of it? 4 Likes |

Crazybeard: "The first, called Igbo Isaiah, was uncovered in 1938 by Isaiah Anozie, a local villager, who found the bronze works while digging beside his home. Five bronze artifacts from the original excavation are now in the British Museum's collection. They include a small staff, a head of a ram, a large manilla, an intricately designed crescent-shaped vessel and a small pendant in the shape of a local chief's head with scarification (ichi) marks on the face." 4 Likes |

Igboid:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Igbo-Ukwu#Archaeological_significance All over Igboland, we used Manilla before colonial era. We call it Okpogho, after the town that produces it, or simply "Ego Igwe", meaning metallic money. 3 Likes |

Christistruth00:And the Christians were irons that they didn't become someone's dinner? Do you now realise how stupid you sound? Now from what you said, I believe you've realised why your people were unable to develop anything from cassava for 500 years. It is because you people are mentally handicapped. 5 Likes |

BKayy: Not in Nigeria The Brazilian Slaves brought it as part of their diet Portuguese don’t eat fufu and Eba Moinmoin and Akara are normally made with Grounded beans but in Yorubaland there is a Cassava version of both In Oyo and Osun States they have a version that mixes Garri inside Grounded Beans and use it to make Akara and Moinmoin that is very heavy and filling You asked for other foods Yoruba make with Cassava and I told you 3 Likes |

Christistruth00:I will have to stop you right there. Even till date you Yorubas don't know how to make Garri for swallow and your Garri (most notably Ijebu Garri) can't soak if introduced to water. It floats if you put it after adding water. This explains the superiority in our creativity. Igbo Garri soaks any how you put it. Igbo owns Yellow Garri. Igbo Garri for swallow is still the best both in nutrients and texture. Now that's aside, my dear stop fooling yourself moi moi and akara are made from beans, anything made like them that is not from beans will have another name. In conclusion, You Yorubas couldn't and did not develop anything from cassava after 500 years that it was introduced to you. Next topic 5 Likes |

Vintagepipes:Thanks. Your shot confirms what I've been telling them since. Ancient Igboland prior to European influence was the hallmark of democracy where power was reduced to the lowest form. A feat USA is still trying to achieve. Now all we need to do, is to embrace, modernise it to our contemporary taste and cherish it. 3 Likes |

Igboid: The sword posted on the Bonny thread that was credited to the Igbos (Aros) by Barbot looks very much like the Ada and Eben, or at least, one of them. If the first Ada and Eben (shown in the Benin Bronze) are older than that specimen, then, of course, the evidence is not enough to support that theory. |

Vintagepipes: Good one. Thanks. See another quote on Igbo democratic principles: "True democrats, no one was better than themselves but yet they were somehow better than anyone else. This self-assurance was sometimes a little frightening. The Ibo men and women are so continually in the right and so busy proving that everyone else is in the wrong. They want to learn from us but only such things as may be materially productive as soon as possible. They tolerate us because they need us. They do not look upon us resentfully as conquerors but complacently as stepping-stones. What will happen when they can, or think they can mount it alone and no further use of the stepping-stones, no one can tell." . AFRICAN WOMEN: A Study of the Ibo of Nigeria, Sylvia Leith-Ross, page 357, published 1939 I made a thread on it. Unfortunately it didn't attract much audience:https://www.nairaland.com/6478681/igbo-true-democrats-africa 4 Likes |

You are just all wailing for nothing. This doesn't diminish the civilization of other African grouos nor does it make the Igbo superior. That the Oka men forayed into Yorubaland and brought the improvement of using screws instead of nails for gun assembly doesn't mean they taught the Yorubas metal working. The Nupes were already great metal workers and their influences cuts across the central part of Nigeria. Ottoman gun trading even came as far as Oyo empire. The Oyo calvary numbered over a thousand horses and they were all armed with Turkish muskets and local guns made by their blacksmiths. There's a lot to be learnt from history, but rather than learn and make the most of the information it avails, you puffed-up ethno-rascals are running daft all over the place trying to place your d*cks beside other to prove that yours is longer or you taught them how to use their own d*cks Make una go rest una senseless brains 7 Likes |

The day you guys learn to be circumspect and reason in maturity, maybe the rest of Nigeria will start taking you seriously. You get too loud unnecessarily and try to denigrate others for your empty babblings. This is why Ralph Uwazuruike and Nnamdi Kanu still remain local champions till date. With all the evidence available that Benin bronze works were greatly influenced by that of Yoruba bronze workers, I'm not sure that a Yoruba dude would make a senseless boast about having made Benin Kingdom what it is or that the Yorubas brought civilization to Benin. Grow up guys. 3 Likes |
