James, Cancelo, TAA, Matty Cash, Castagne, Ricardo Perriera, Kyle Walker, Tomiyasu, Seamus Coleman, Tariq Lamptey are all better than AWB by far. And they told us Ole's signings are great. Ole signed Magwaya and AWB for a combined 130m pounds

grin grin grin

Livramento and Laird are better than AWB IMO.

It took me 10 mins of Youtube videos to know that AWB was going to be the wrong buy but we don pass that bridge now. Right now the hope is that somehow Rangnick's system brings out the best in him.
Whoever scouted him should be sacked sha.

It would be nice to have a good run in the Champion's League for a change. One thing Rangnick would have gained from yesterday is the knowledge of who is useless and who is useful amongst the older players. I don't expect to see much of Mata on the pitch or Matic in defence any time soon.

I am absolutely sure Mata is playing his last Session, same as Lingard. Pogba? Maybe he's gonna renew, depends on his performance in new System.

Truth is,both of them are living on borrowed time.

They really can't offer too much.
Matic has vision but he's erratic and tends to be in the Pogba mode of glamorizing his passes.
Mata just can't dominate in the middle any more, sad as it is to say.

A little bit harsh. A lot of these guys havent had much game time or had a chance to build form and all of a sudden are expected to perform in a single match. I know they werent great but I dont think we should be so harsh on these players.

Matic and Mata are 33, incredibly slow, and have both been finished for a while now.
There is no magic that will make them quick again or young again. Players who are fitter than them have moved on to China. Those 2 are actually stealing a living at the club.

They should be offloaded do that we can get dynamic players that can function in this new pressing style. Mata and Matic that were too slow even when we played Ole’s slow reactive style so is it under Rangnick’s quick pressing style that they will now function?

For years,Mata has been surplus to requirements.
It's amazing how we even got anything out of him under LvG.
Matic has lost his legs. The last time the nigha played any decent stretch of ball for us was like 2018 under Jose.

I could agree with your pistulation for guys like VdB. But Jesse Lingard seems to have checked out mentally from Old Trafford.

Rangnick: "They [Greenwood & Haaland] are different kinds of strikers. Erling Haaland is extremely physical. Erling is a different kind of striker. For me, he is a target striker who can play as a single striker, like a target man, or another striker in a 4-4-2."

Dean Smith: "But the way his [Rangnick] teams have played, they've got a clear identity, so we've certainly got an idea of what to expect, but they've got top-class players and top-class players adapt very quickly.

"I don't think it will take too long for Ralf to get his identity within that team and we'll be very respectful of how they're going to play on Saturday, not just with the quality of the players, but the coaching."

So every Manager knows we didn't have identity under Ole?!

Greenwood needs to enter the gym and bulk up. The natural ability is there but he’s physically hopeless. He needs to get in shape like Mbappe or Haaland to become a modern day centre forward.

Successful modern day strikers are physical monsters(Lewandowski, Ronaldo, Benzema, Suarez, Kane, Mbappe, Lukaku) - their physique enables them to go pound for pound against towering monsters like Bonucci and Chiellini. Someone like Greenwood would get eaten up by the Italian defenders no matter what he does.

The physique of a striker is becoming increasingly important in modern day football. The talent and the technique are not enough if he’s going to the get to the very top. Dude needs to leave Manchester chics alone for now, get into the gym and become a freak.

Salah is a bully.

I doubt he’s ever lost any duel or 50-50 tussle with an opponent. He must win the ball no matter what. He looks short but he’s so thick.

I get what you mean, but it can be quite tough bulking up.
You would have to increase your carbs which may or may not have an adverse effect on your conditioning.

Michael Jordan actually adopted this approach of bulking up when he couldn't get past the Pistons in the late 80s.

It worked for him but later on in his career, mostly his Wizard days, he lost his spring in his step due to the effect on his knees.

I know it's different from football, but I'm saying this as a similar occurrence.

I'd say a good number of those players you listed tended to be naturally physically endowed.
THey most likely had to condition themselves to be able to be more mobile.

I'm not dismissing the need for Greenwood to go to the gym but I doubt if he'll transform into Thor or something like that.

Just my mostly uninformed opinion. I could be wrong

Rather than just bulking up what Greenwood needs is speed and acceleration training. He has good speed but does not know how to use it.
It is acceleration that Salah and Haaland are using to kill people. The size and strength will come naturally over the next couple of years.

In his interview with Manchester United, Rangnick explained why the club should look to invest in midfield and suggested scouts take a closer look at Amadou Haidara, also identifying Jude Bellingham and Kalvin Phillips as potential midfield targets.

Although Rangnick has been backed to explore the possibility of new signings in January, both he and Manchester United expect a quiet month. Rangnick believes the squad he inherited is too big and because of that, outgoings are more likely than notable arrivals.
