However, to effectively counter this potentially unsavory situation, we must as a necessity build a very strong navy that will patrol our waters and ensure it's safe at all times.

Along the line he had problem with the Bonny aborigines and decided to leave for another land. He settled at Opobo with his followers who were overwhelmingly Ijaws It is a fact that Jaja didn't meet Opobo uninhabited. There were the Ibani there before he got otherwise Opobo would have borne UmuJaja instead.

At this point, I'm yet to understand where you're coming from, whether from mischief angle or just plain naive.

All available records have shown that Igbos of Ndoki stock were the first to inhabit both Bonny and Opobo before other groups like the ijaws started arriving. Opobo was still uninhabited when Jaja arrived with other Igbos from Bonny due to hostilities following the Bonny civil war. Jaja was a cunning man and very smart, he knew that Opobo was strategically located and by occupying there, he would be able to control trade flow between the interior and the Atlantic ocean. By virtue of being the first settlers in both Opobo and Bonny, the Ndoki Igbos became the aborigines! They met no tribesmen when they arrived!!

You can't compare that with Gabon or the Caribbeans that already had tribesmen on ground when Igbos arrived. It doesn't even make sense. Lots of Biafran children were airlifted to Gabon during the civil war between 1967-70. That was how Igbos came into Gabon. Stop comparing apples with oranges.

That has always been their intentions but it will never work! They're too small to seize Igbo territories. If they chose diplomacy, then we will go to court same way Cameroon and Nigeria went to court, but unfortunately for them, they will lose based on available evidence. If on other hand they chose war, then it will be their end because not only will we forcefully reclaim all our territories 100% we will also ensure that all other minorities they seized their lands are returned to them.

The thinking of some of you amazes me. There is a difference between a tribal land and where you have settled. Any land found in the south east surrounded by the Igbos either inhabited or not belongs to the Igbos. Jaja settling in either Opobo or Bonny does not make those places Igbo land. The people might be Igbos but the land belongs to the traditional landlord. Ijaws own the land of Opobo and Bonny. Even the ndoki people you are claiming most don't claim to be Igbos. With improvements in farming and population growth, humans started settling down. All the lands in Nigeria were not occupied at the same time, some were occupied earlier and some later.

Bonny was obviously an uninhabited island at some point in history while that of Opobo happened more recently. I hope you know that almost all the major events during Jaja's era was recorded? You claim Jaja met aborigines on ground, can you name who they were?

We will rather remain in Nigeria than leave any inch of Igboland behind, not Opobo and not Bonny!

When the civil war ended in 1970, there was massive anti Igbo sentiments in Nigeria then. It was at this period that everyone began to distance themselves from the Igbo tag to avoid oppression. I once watched a BBC documentary were Igbo indigenes in Rivers State were lamenting that some of their lands have been seized and their children can't get work in the oil industry. That when they complain, they would be told to return to East Central State!

I think the best thing for us as Igbos is to ride the storm and allow Nigeria to break up on its own. This would afford us the opportunity to be at the table when the borders would be redrawn instead of fighting an already dying Nigeria and be forced into accepting unreasonable terms prematurely. Breaking away while the rest of Nigeria remains together will enable Fulanis to align with the ijaws and poach our territories.

In reality, many Opobo people will tell you they're Igbo. I met many of them in Aba while growing up. They still celebrate their biggest cultural event (the Nwaotam masquerade festival) in Aba and not Bayelsa! Their traditional rulers always visit their Ndoki relatives in Ukwa Ngwa areas!
