I have noticed that we both share the same views about the New Testament, so it's fine for @sonmvayina to reply to the post you have for me when I don't have the time to get all the facts to respond as it's time consuming for me to bring out all the facts to back up all my responses to you, but you come up with your own assumptions just to keep to your own views. Take your response below as an example, Luke started the Genealogy of Jesus with" 23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli", notice here that Luke did not say the son of Mary, so how was Luke referring to the Genealogy of Jesus through that of Mary?

Also remember on another thread you mentioned that the saints who were resurrected after Jesus' crucifixion written in Matthew was "a vision of what will happen in the nearest future". Are you for real?
Well i was responding to different issues not the same.
However thanks for your time! smiley

What do you think?
What is Christian education?

Was reading unheard of before “Christian education”?

Mostly, what they give you in school. It evolved out of Christianity.

In Nigeria, almost yes, unless you read Arabic. Our forefathers did not read books. My own forefathers were divining Ifa. In most of Europe too, reading was by Christian education. The church needed preachers and bookkeepers so they educated.

Pre-Christian education of course existed. The Greeks and Romans had reading before Christianity, as did the Chinese, the Egyptians and lots of others who's education had nothing to do with Christianity before or after but it was mostly reserved for the few wherever it existed.

Christianity proselytised to the masses by teaching reading, especially the Protestants who by defeating the flaming swords of unreadable Latin that barred it from the masses, handed to us in our own tongues.

Us, Nigerians? God Jesus in our milk and often the sperm that made us unless its Allah or Ogun and Sango etc in some dying rare cases.

An education. The ability to use the heart and soul and mind and all other senses to ask and knock and seek.

If the Romans had come to Nigeria before Christianity as they did when they occupied Israel before Chritianity started, then we would have been reading and writing with the Roman language and would have known about Roman/Greek mythology earlier and even better. But Christian Education in Nigeria held us back from knowing these earlier, but thank GOD for YouTube that now has documented history of other religions in the middle east thousands of years before Christianity.

First of all, there was no Nigeria then. Second of all some people did read, so how was it “almost”unheard of? It was always the privilege of the few even when the Christians started exercising their power.
So is christian education just Christians educating people in certain subjects?

Well, reading was still mostly reserved for the few when the Christians started holding sway. That is until the printing press came along, and Martin Luther along with his benefactors wanted a piece of the papal extortion of the Germans. Contrary to popular opinion, the “scriptures” were never meant for the eyes of the lay people.

No, they have been intelligent people before the Jesus character was created in nicea...the only purpose was to unite the empire under one religion...

The Jesus character was not created in Nicea. It was created in the same place that spawned Moses’ “Elohim”.

What do you think Moses/Levites were doing if not uniting people under one religion?

If Jesus was created, what makes you think your precious Jewish god wasn’t?!

Lol...so funny.

I am not Jewish. I worship my creator, we igbos calls him chukwu. The jews calls his Hashem....
I only discovered that our igbo omenani is almost the same as the Jewish religion. We both recognize the existence of other gods like Amadioha, Ekwensu just like the jews too who mentioned the names of some of them too. And we both believe in one creator God. Who is not a man or human being and can't be liken to any thing that exist. He commanded us to come to him directly. To ask for pardon and forgiveness by confessing and forsaking...human sacrifice is a taboo and abomination to him....

In the entire old testament there is just no where God says he will send his son as a sin sacrifice. No where.

So simple answer is that the Jesus story has got nothing to do with the jews. They have been saying so from ages past..

A simple research will reveal that Christianity started as the worship as serapis...the change was made at the Council of Ephesus.

I don't think the people who occupied the area on a map of today known as Nigeria read much in say, the 1200s. We Yorubas didn't until Arabic arrived and Portuguese much later. If you mean Arabic/Islamic education, here's some very early Nigeria writing though.

Uthman Ibn Idris of Borno sent a letter to the Mamluk Sultan of Egypt in 1391-1392. The letter was one of a diplomatic nature, it also contained poetry and an erudite understanding of Islamic law. This letter contains the earliest extant indigenous written poem produced in Nigeria.

Below is Egyptian and Greek for comparison.

Ancient Egyptian writing is known as hieroglyphics ('sacred carvings') and developed at some point prior to the Early Dynastic Period (c. 3150 -2613 BCE). According to some scholars, the concept of the written word was first developed in Mesopotamia and came to Egypt through trade. While there certainly was cross-cultural exchange between the two regions, Egyptian hieroglyphics are completely Egyptian in origin; there is no evidence of early writings which describe non-Egyptian concepts, places, or objects, and early Egyptian pictographs have no correlation to early Mesopotamian signs.

At the beginning of Greek literature stand the two monumental works of Homer, the Iliad and the Odyssey.  The figure of Homer is shrouded in mystery. Although the works as they now stand are credited to him, it is certain that their roots reach far back before his time. The Iliad is a narrative of a single episode spanning over the course of a ten-day-period from near the end of the ten years of the Trojan War. It centers on the person of Achilles, who embodied the Greek heroic ideal.

sonmvayina:
I am not Jewish.
I did not call you Jewish. I said you worship Jews.

sonmvayina:
I worship my creator, we igbos calls him chukwu. The jews calls his Hashem....
The Jews don’t recognize your Chukwu. History is replete with the Jews not recognizing other peoples gods. Their sacred book is filled with Hashem commanding genocide. So the chukwu and hashem are not the same.

sonmvayina:
I only discovered that our igbo omenani is almost the same as the Jewish religion. We both recognize the existence of other gods like Amadioha, Ekwensu just like the jews too who mentioned the names of some of them too. And we both believe in one creator God.
Igbos and Jews are not the only ones who have a concept on one “creator god”. Even trinitarians of every stripe believe in one creator god. The Hellenized Jews of Alexandria who created the New Testament scriptures were trinitarians. Even you understood the trinity, then you wouldn’t be disputing the Christian’s concept of god.
Lastly, there is no jew anywhere citing chukwu to support belief in hashem, but here you are.

sonmvayina:
Who is not a man or human being and can't be liken to any thing that exist. He commanded us to come to him directly. To ask for pardon and forgiveness by confessing and forsaking...human sacrifice is a taboo and abomination to him....
HE is not a man but HE commands, HE doles out pardons, HE forgives, and HE has taboos and abomination but HE is not a man.

sonmvayina:
In the entire old testament there is just no where God says he will send his son as a sin sacrifice. No where.
Authors of the Old Testament did write that he has sons. Maybe he decided to sacrifice one of them.
However, if you understood the esoteric meaning of the scriptures, you’d understand why the authors wrote that only the incarnation of “god” can serve as sacrifice for the “original sin”. But you still think god is real so you are just as blind as all the Christian’s you criticize.

sonmvayina:
So simple answer is that the Jesus story has got nothing to do with the jews. They have been saying so from ages past..
Hellenized Jews of Alexandria in Ptolemaic Egypt wrote the Jesus story. Was Philo of Alexandria a Jew or not? The essenses, the therapetaue, the Nazarites,
are some of the names referring to the eclectic Jewish philosophers of Alexandria who wrote the allegories. The Romans merely adopted them.

sonmvayina:
A simple research will reveal that Christianity started as the worship as serapis...the change was made at the Council of Ephesus.
Careful research leads to erudition. If you do more than “simple research” you’d know that Serapis is an earlier incarnation of the same “god” as Jesus. If you do more than careful research, you did see that the ritual artifacts of Serapis is just one o the multiple “pagan” symbols the Christians adopted after they solidified their position in the Roman government.

You think you are knowledgeable but you can’t even decide if Jesus was created in Nicea or Serapis was converted to Jesus in Ephesus.

The message and spiritual truth is what is consistent. Not the story. The stories are all stories. Nothing more. Learn the message in them.
It is just the nomenclature that is different. The messages in the stories are consistent...

The jews used Cain and Ebel
The babylonian used Enki and Enlil
The igbos used Emeka and ifeanyi
The Greeks used Zeus and poseidon

The messages in the story are the same.

No, you are wrong. It is not mandatory for Christians to partake in such baseless arguments. This is clearly a debate, even if I spend the whole day debating this topic, I will not win a single soul because nobody accepts defeat in a debate, both parties will just keep trying to express their opinions.

Jesus did not ask us to debate with people, He told us to win souls and the best way to win souls is through evangelism, there is no need for us to stress ourself by having unnecessary arguments. People are free to give their opinion, can their opinion dethrone Jesus or change my faith? No. So why should I be worried?

Personally, I believe in Jesus and I will forever continue to believe in Jesus and share His messages with people. He has always been my God and He has never failed. Just this month, He did something great in my life. Why will I have a problem with a God that is very reliable, a God that hears my prayers and answers it? I don't know about others but to me, God is real.

Lol....very laughable.

Who is arguing with you. Like I said earlier why would a 10 years old be arguing with a400 level chemistry student about air.. you are arguing a woman just magically missed her period without the input of a man. I am pointing to you that the story falls under mythology.. you are still insisting it was foretold. You keep quoting passages that do not relate to your point. But max must be max. He must always find a way to convince himself ...

It's not easy. This is why "It’s easier to fool people than to convince them that they’ve been fooled.” Mark Twain

I grew up believing the resurrection, the 2nd coming and that that the virgin birth was from God for decades, till not too long ago when I started watching valid YouTube videos on the origin of Christainity and also found a post on Nairaland that asked [where did God promise in the Old Testament that He will send His own son to be crucified] that was when I realised the claim that the virgin birth was from God, the resurrection and 2nd coming are just a BIG SCAM.
There were Roman writers during the time of the New Testament yet they hardly took notice of the events that took place at the time which would have been world headlines today if such events were happening in Israel today.

This is heavy stuff: Matthew-27-52-53
52 and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life.
53 They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people.

Yet no Roman writers wrote anything about it.

This whole SCAM is an easy way to control gullible people that falls for this SCAM
