This is the process that lead to soot in the the atmosphere.
Criminals steal crude oil
They "refine" it. To refine (or Distil), they need heat. They put the crude in a metal drum and heat it. They get the heat by burning part of the stolen crude oil! This is the cause of the soot.
So this is how distillation causes soot.
Crude oil is made up of different compounds. The criminals are only interested in the diesel. So EVERYTHING apart from the diesel they want is thrown away. Everything from the crude that is not diesel is thrown away. This does not cause soot but damages the environment. . I live in portharcourt and that's the true situation of things. It might look unbelievable but that is the case.

Even before oil theft and illegal refining became rampant, situations like this was there but not to this level and it only occur in some parts of the state, but now it's worse and have become a serious health Hazzard and our frog voice governor doesn't care.

You see, there are millions of people living in PHC and %1 cannot tell the true story about Portable waters in the Metropolis.
For instance, I reside in Obajana, Kogi State@ Dangote Cement Factory (Largest Cement plant in Africa) and the harmattan did a great job by drying up some portable water sources coupled with Cement dusts everywhere.
That means I can easily fetch a muddy water and show the World but the true tale is; Clean Waters Abounds in Kogi.

So, I want to believe Clean Waters still plenty for PHC and there's no cause for alarm but the way you peeps are portraying it seems All waters in PHC are contaminated with soot which is very wrong.

He's right bro, Anytime stolen crude is set on fire, only the smoke alone turns the sky around that locale dark,
That dark sky is laden with black soot(carbon black) which later falls gradually and darkens the surrounding settlements.
