I think the population, competition etc......Here, Nigeria has over 160 dioceses compared to SA's 25 (I am speaking of the Anglican Church).

Gosh - I just got a headache trying to figure out what constitutes a dioceses. Tried googling it earlier - church ain't my thing. But it makes sense - you guys are really into your religion.

I am Anglican.....so there is a way it is been mapped out.

Outside the Church of England, Nigeria has the largest number of Provinces in the World and constitutes about 42% of Anglicans in Africa.

There are agitations to create more in Nigeria because of the population and some other logistic/administrative reasons.

Dang, I just got skooled! Didn't know any of these. The last paragraph about Thabo Makgoba almost wrecked my brain I grew up Methodist, then chose the charismatic church in my teens and now I'm.just ambivalent. Haven't been to church in decades except to attend funerals.
