It's your attitude that can get you sacked.

If you misbehave in government work and you are caught, you will be penalised either demotion or suspension or posting to a distance place of work.
And all these after you have been called upon to answer queries.

Security is in the sense that nobody can just wake up and sack you, there's a process
And secondly, you have benefits after retirement or even resignation (early retirement) after serving for at least 15 years

It means no one individual can wake up one morning and sack anybody. The process involved in sacking a federal government employee is rigorous and thorough. It must be proved beyond reasonable doubt that the person had committed a gross misconduct after a very thorough investigation before such a person can be dismissed.

Dismissal at the federal level comes with lots of consequences. The person losses not just the job but also all pensionable years already put in service and gratuity. It is the ultimate punishment in Federal service so it is cautiously applied.

However, once a gross misconduct is proved beyond doubt, dismissal can be applied.

The job security credited to FGN job is now a cliché. Security means future guarantee for either pension or annuity. The word does not mean complacency or toleration of indolence or other such vices at work place. Mind you, the Nigerian Civil Service can fire any civil servant who violates any of the Civil Service rules. Then, you cannot just be sacked just like that unlike the private sector. There will be a Panel who will look into your matter and weigh it if it is worth being fired!

However, in the Private Sector, an MD can just fire u because he does not like you. Most private organisations have no pension plans. But now, the Federal Government has made it compulsory for all private organisations to open a Retirement Savings Account (RSA) for all their employees. This is being enforced by The National Pension Commission. So, if u are fired, u have ur pension in ur RSA of which you can access 25% wen u are out of job for 4 months.

. Job security in the FG parastatls does not mean gross misconduct and other vices are tolerated. However it gives you rest of mind that you cannot be sacked anyhow for triviliaties as obtained in the private sector. During Covid lockdown many Nigerians in private sector lost their jobs with a great number having pay reduction wheres FG workers were at home receiving their full salaries. In some prastatals even with malaria you will be given sick leave which is not so in the private sector. Additionally companies sack staff anyhow which is not possible under the government. Some days ago a release surfaced online from the Head of Service in Nigeria advising the Heads of Parastals to look for ways of managing crisis between staffs and their respective management.This is so beacuse the FG wastes money on staff court cases which can be hadled peacefully.Is this possible in a private sector? No The Chairman of a company can sack 21 staff in a day ..No question ! Who does that under the FG? In a government school Principal had disagreement with the VP The principal arrested the VP.On the following day the VP arrested the principal. To resolve the matter the government. transferred both of them to different places. This is not possible in a private sector where both of them will be dismissed because of thier personal differences. In sum there is security in the FG job though there is a disciplinary measure for any erring staff.

FG jobs are overrated

I left a Govt job and joined private because of higher pay, when Covid-19 started we were placed on redundancy with no salary while my colleagues in FG were earning their full salary for more than 1 year without going to work.
I don't have to explain what I went through all those months when my savings ran out

You are correct Sir, however, you CANNOT lose your pension and gratuity no matter what! The pension fund is not with them since 2004. Your pension is secured!

In FG jobs , before they give your query , you must have be called to order verbally by your superior officer at least 3 times before he forward your name for query , sometimes that pipeline process is usually longer , by the time the request get to the main boss and the boss read and order for the query it may take up to 2 months or more .

Secondly , you can resume work at 8am , remain idle all through the day , go out to do some side runs , come back and close by 4 pm , even the ogas don't resume office by 8am , some come to office by 10am and close by 3pm which you CAN'T try in a private organisation.


Go to places like

Ministries , FCDA , NASRDA , NARICT and other government parastatals. Some employees are just playing games with their phone , go to NECO office in Arab junction , Kubwa .

They even have roster for birthday celebrants , come and see cakes and wines .

I know of a Man who said he was sick and didn't go to office for 1 week , when I looked at the man , there's little bothering him , maybe stress or slight fever . Yet he still relaxes at home , watch TV , do some local runs with his car around the neighborhood at night , when he resumed office , he was given a joyous welcome , heaven didn't fall.

Lastly , their pay come as at when due , plus some allowances plus rice that will be shared during festive period .

According to Public service rule, a dismissed officer will lose his gratuity and pensionable years. To be honest, I don’t know how they enforce the pension part under the current pension law but the gratuity will never be paid.

But in private job/jobs, na go home cos Dem nor born person well to mend e boss even when the boss dey misbehave.
Federal government job gives you an opportunity to have a side gig and as well have time to monitor and run it but with private job you can't because Dem go finish your side hustle for you. The list are endless Jare"

Gratuity n Pension after retirement is one major reason why dey said it has security. some FG jobs also has some hidden criminalized emoluments attached

Dem dey hardly sack for govt job because of union activities. NNPC don't sack there staffs, they rather transfer to another state where you might not incentives. And you got pension package.

If you work in a private sector, you will understand.
Government us not as fickle as private sector. Even when staffs don't perform well or behave properly, they will most likely get transferred to another branch.
Government hardly gets broke, so they don't downsize or retrench.
Government is even more considerate than private sector. You get your full 30 day working leave, you can apply for casual leave as well. If a woman is pregnant, she'll be given her maternity leave.

If u are the dumbest be guaranteed u will not be sacked, government job reqluire u to just show up , that's all u have to do to maintain your job

My prayer for us all this coming year is that for those of us who want a Federal Government job, 2022 is our year, how the job will come I do not know but we will get our APL from a very juicy agency or parastatal. To be honest 90% of government workers are just collecting salaries for signing the register....This is true even in top government agencies, all they do is sign in, chat all day. watch movies or do social media....In every department less than 5% actually work daily..


The only government workers dat Almost all thier staffs do work are paramilitary & Teaching hospitals.


Forget ministries, some of those guys don't even sign in till the end of the month

No. FG employees salaries are determined by the National salaries income and wages commission and it is not applicable to state government employees. Each states are by law empowered to fix the sanatirs of their employees in as much as it does not fall below the national minimum wage.
