We hardly see NA personnel with beryl riffle which is said to have been adopted as the standard rifle. Only NDA cadets and AFSF uses it.
Then all of a sudden we are seeing several NA Soldiers field the AK Alpha.

Another question for the house: since when did the DSS make a downgrade firearm-wise to the AK-47 with fold stocks? I ask because of 2 observations. (1)During MNK's first trial, some DSS agents were armed with AK-47s. (2)In a recent event in Akwa Ibom State, ALL the Governor's counter-assault team members were armed with AK-47 assault rifles with foldstocks concealed in their signature black trench coats. And I mean good ole AKs with basic wooden furniture, no piccantily rails or optics? Why? I thought the DSS got the very best when it comes to assault rifles. But now even the Prison Service has rifles. What's happening?

Oh, and why the black trenchcoats, especially with our hot weather? Dustin powder is expensive o .

It’s not a downgrade and it’s not Ak-47 either.

DSS is using Ak-103

Wanted bandit leaders, Alhaji Auta, and Kachalla Ruga, have been killed in a forest in Zamfara State, PRNigeria can authoritatively report.

The notorious bandit Commanders met their waterloo after a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft, under Operation Hadarin Daji, acted on credible intelligence, and bombarded their enclaves, at Gusami Forest and Tsamre Village in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of the State, last night.

Multiple airstrikes by the NAF jet, which were carried out in the early hours of Saturday, also eliminated Auta, and Ruga’s cohorts, PRNigeria learnt.

Sources confirmed that dozens of bandits who had converged at late Auta’s residence, for his burial were also struck by missiles of the military jet, with an unconfirmed number killed in the process.

A military intelligence officer told PRNigeria that follow-up airstrikes conducted by the NAF fighter aircraft on fleeing bandits and those who took cover under trees within the area, resulted in heavy casualties on the side of the criminals.

“For now, the whereabouts of other notorious bandits like Alhaji Nashama, Shingi and Halilu who may either be incapacitated or on the run remain unknown,” the officer added.

PRNigeria, further gathered from the military source, that aggressive bombardments by NAF aircrafts, have in recent times been very precise and effective in hitting bandits’ enclaves, eliminating their leaderships and followers, in the process.

“These operations have reassured citizens of the commitment and dedication of the military and other security agencies, towards bringing the threats posed by banditry under check, in no distant time.

“The citizens, especially around the affected communities, are enjoined to continually provide security agencies with credible information that will go a long way towards tackling the threats to their lives and livelihood,” he said.

First of all having a RWS on a light skinned pick up truck is simply ridiculous and not the way to go.

You want it on your APC, IFV ,LAV, MRAPS, etc.

You really need to have in the NA at least 1500 armoured vehicles ,that are mobile , resilient and fit for purpose.

A brand new Type 70 Toyota pick up truck ( soft skinned) military spec, will cost you about $60k . What's the lifecycle of this pick up after being hit a few times by the obligatory AK47 rounds Hard usage ,etc I really do not know.

However, I would procure used surplus equipment for a fraction of the cost, which is still relatively new and fit for purpose.

For example the M117, which is an MRAP type armoured vehicles. Which the Greeks got for a mere $70k with electronic hydraulic turrets still intact .

That means we can fit them with cheaper but still very effective HMG and 40mm Grenade launchers from Ukraine. Then retrofit FLIR and target acquisition software. You are good to go .

What do you think will happen to the entire arena of conflict in the North if you immediately commit 1500 armoured MRAP type fighting vehicles.

In the first instance , taking out technicals will be routine. It means you go off road and dont follow designated routes or roads. It means you drive at night without lights. You now have stealth with element of surprise. And the complete end of using soft skinned pick up trucks in a battle zone.

How much will all this cost a little above $110 million. Which would you rather be in s Toyota pickup or this .

It must be a special deal for NATO members! It MUST be!?

Edit: are the Uke HMGs and AGLs a deal? If not what guarantees as to quality, maintenance and after sales services exist?

If you don't ask you don't get ,if you partner with the USA you get even more.

It's about international diplomacy and geo politics. It's a game we don't seem to appreciate and or know how to play.

Now that the Russians and Chinese are making in roads into Sub Saharan Africa. This is an attack against Western influences and a quest to grab resources.

The Russians and Chinese will support any regime no matter how unpopular even prop it up. Particularly, if there are financial gains to be made, e.g. mining rites for scarce minerals , etc.

They have gone into Mali and now the unpopular military junta after a disinformation campaign against France. Is saying it will take 5 year's to organise elections.

If Nigeria said ( we have the manpower) give us 1500 Mk117, 500 Bradley IFV , 2000 Humvees and another 750 Lav 25 for a start. And light weaponry for 10,000 soldiers and we will deploy them in Mali to fight insurgents and anywhere they are found in West Africa.

That request will be granted immediately by the USA with all manner of sweeteners.

Is it in out interest to be the big brother of West Africa ABSOLUTELY YES.

If we don't I can assure you Mali will be a staging post for all manner of Islamic jihadists within this year. Why because there is huge vacuum that the departing French have left. And Wagner group is just there to prop up the military junta not fight jihadists in the country.

It was actually the AK-47 I saw with wooden furniture, not any of the new AKs with polymer. At a point I thought the operators were Cops, but I know for a fact that only DSS provide close protection detail. Anyway I just thought it odd as the DSS usually gets top of the line fire-arms. Even a member of the Governor's Close Protection accidentally exposed his side arm tucked behind his suit and I was surprised that it was a good ole Beretta M9 favoured by the NPF (along with the Makarov) instead of the IWI Jericho. Oh well.

Not so. The Police have their SPU that gives close protection detail too. They're likely whom you saw

I'm not so sure about that. For Governor's, SPU Officers are used as ADCs while NCOs and Rank-&-File provide that 1st line of defence (part of the uniformed Counter-Assault team), pretty much the same work MOPOL units attached to State Government Houses did. They don't go around in black trench coats, and certainly are not a primary part of any Governor's close protection detail.

Of course the Service has AK47s in armory.

As the most common automatic infantry weapon in the world, it only makes sense to have some, even if just for training and familiarity.

This is just like asking if the USA have AK47s in their numerous armouries.

As for use on DSS operations, I leave it to those who know more to answer you.

I always wondered about the trench coats too, but seeing as the local alternative is Agbada, it's kinda obvious why they chose the coats.

Trench coats have been around Nigerian close protection forces, at least since the days of Strike Force under Gen Abacha I am sure.
