In my experience, they really study alot, and devote hours toit. Remindsme of aclassmate in sec school. Even after exams he stays back in class still reading. I agree with the shared learning from seniors. Things we in Nigeria do not really do. I believe if you devote the same time they do and research yourneedsor course work even before starting, when you resume, you willlook like a super star. But I guess there's more to life than books.

I agree with you. They devote large number of time for learning. I won't deny that.
The only problem I have with them is, if you're not Indian some of them don't see the obligation to offer help. So I've Been reading In expectation for next term. And I'm going to be rolling with the Indians now.

It took me by surprise I was expecting to see the white guys as some superstar but these India guys are now ruling the IT world, and one thing about them, they know what they are doing.

Indians nah bandwagon and access to privileged information dey make them seem like Genius.

Someone mentioned a guy solving Java problem without coding Java before! Are you sure he didn't have OOP knowledge from other programming languages? Are you sure he didn't get expo already from senior colleagues?

I happened to have studied with couple of them and I'm yet to meet that genius Indian. Yes they do have access to information and massive support from their community and that's what distinguishes them, plus the excessive competitiveness. Who no go seem like a genius when you know the script or get access to past questions?. Remove the access to privileged information and you will see the true Indian. Don't forget these Indians sef dey hustle student jobs pass some Africans oh while studying.

Last I checked, Indians didn't invent many of the technology we are benefiting from. Just that the younger generations in the western world no get plenty motivation to study to become a Genius.

That's my experience so far and I think as a Nigerians or any nationality, we can always replicate whatever they are doing. It's all about what's motivating you and gives you assurance that what you're studying is worth it.

The reason for the education standards in Nigeria getting poorer by the day isn't farfetched from many things affecting it. At least it wasn't so during the times of our fathers or grandparents. I can count the countless number of times I read with lantern. Abi how will I learn to code like a Genuis when NEPA dey bring light when I suppose dey sleep or data no dey to search the web? Do the vast majority of Indians live in darkness? Them no get access to better internet than Nigeria?

About Nigerians not helping Nigerians abroad. Let's face the fact, we are losing/ have lost our family values thanks to lack of trust and too much juju. How many people mentioning the fact that other Nigerians didn't help them have helped their immediate family members first? So why expect something from a stranger when you can't even help your extended cousins because of one reasons or the others. Yes Nigerians don't help nigerians abroad e dey why. No be same Nigerians dey set their family members or friends up with shady deals and placing cocaine in the luggage of someone that's trying to help them transport it. Or sabotaging people trying to help them.

I am sure we have all heard or know stories of siblings bringing eachother to abroad and things go South through taking eachother businesses and properties? So why are speaking like we lost our values overnight?

All the Nigerians don't help Nigerians gang, if I message you to help me deliver something to my people in Nigeria will you? How many people fit bring that their uncle pikin? No be then we go remember say the man sef no be better person, hin no be Christian, hin no be dis and dat grin. Story and fake promises go dey come. Nah to use sense do everything. Heck, no be this same Nigerian some parents no want success for their pikin?

About speaking phoney. English no be our papa and mama language afterall. Why not speak so that people wey get the language go understand us and avoid speaking twice. If you no try speak in a tone they understand, mah your loss oh. Many people have complained about not understanding foreign colleagues to me. They often have to say yes to them or have to politely ask them to come again. These people no like anything wey go stress them and it doesn't cost anything to pronounce things the right way for once. Instead of pronouncing them with hindi, ijebu, Anambra or Kaduna accent cheesy

In conclusion, let's look inwards and see where we sef no dey perfect and how make changes beginning from our immediate family. Charity begins at home not on Nairaland. If we all truly help our family members I don't think we will be on Nairaland but we know he no dey possible for many things.

You nailed it with the bolded, they do not have the same hunger as someone who just came from India or Nigeria who is ready to hussle, and tbh I don't blame them since they have a different perspective to life.

According to the hierarchy of needs, when the lower needs like food, water, safety etc. are available then we start to focus on higher needs like self actualization, that is why you will see them decide to take a year off to travel even if means using up all their savings, the experience is worth it to them. That is why they will turn down higher paying jobs for work life balance etc.

Bros. The thing shock me. This western guys barely come to class just come tap card and leave. Most of them their school fees especially as masters are paid by the government, so they see no need. If I see the opportunity this people are just wasting the thing go dey pain me for Nigeria. This is a country that reward hard work. The day companies came to school to give talk on graduate jobs no of them show up, na Nigerians and Indians, Pakistan full everywhere. Most of them don't even know there is a graduate scheme. One told me he has never heard of it before. Is like living in a river and see no need to drink water.

Okay Thanks, I wanted to ask about certification that one needs to have in order to be qualified to work as an electrical engineer(majorly wiring and maintenance).
2. Is it possible to get a job(Sponsorship) from Nigeria here in Electrical engineering field.
Thanks.

I don't let the jobs get into my way of uni. That's why I stayed clear of support or care work. Once the money start coming, you want to get more. I notice most agency are ready to give 40 hours they don't care. I agree all circumstances are not the same, most people who do this have to pay school fees. They work more than 20 hours or more. I had paid all my fees so I don't let small money get into my way when I know what I stand to benefit. This winter holidays I have been working on website design internship for 100 hours organized by my school and a local business. We only get paid £300. But the value of that experience to me is worth more than any part time job I can get. I have not work any job this winter break. I have spent most my time reading and on my internship. And during term I only work Saturdays and Sundays. Just to buy bus pass and pay necessary bills. Thanks for the advice. Cheers.

Have you met "Young" Nigerians in the IT, Health,Finance, Law, Teaching, Engineering fields, specifically in the UK? undecided

No doubt Indians are good in the IT field, but they are not exceptional in other fields.

Also I wouldn't call "Indians" geniuses when it comes to IT....1.5billion will sure will have a better chance than 250million grin

I think what makes people think they're genius is because they usually have strong maths/engineering background which you'll need in almost every field of IT.
From data engineering, data science , ai/ml , software engineering.

Hi guys, what are the chances of some of us studying courses that are not in the shortage list? Will it be hard or impossible for us to get sponsorship ? Also , if after the 2yrs PSW there's no sponsorship, which other ways are there to remain legally staying in this land ?

Apart from medical doctors, nurses, etc., virtually the same as those studying courses on the so-called shortage list.

Normally when a conversation goes on for long, misconceptions start to come in as a result of diverted views by others. I never said Nigerians are not good.

Now it looks like I am playing down on our people, which wasn’t the case when this conversation started. It was about Indians being good. And no you are wrong, they are not just good on IT, they are good in medicine, business and management as well. But I will stop the conversation here before we go begin use negative words on each other for something we are only trying to learn and improve/motivate ourself from.

And this was just what I was saying. We are entering the insult stage. We can have conversation to improve and increase our knowledge. What I have said from the on set was based on research. The fraudsters you talked about in the west were brewed by us.

This is My last reply on this topic, and I am replying cos of the cross to entering into abuse on personality by you.

one of the first recorded fraud was by a white man, if I can call him that. It was the sale of the Eiffel Tower by some dude years after world war. It’s a long story so I will just leave it at that point. Nigerians are very intelligent people. One thing with knowledge is it can be used for good or bad. Hunger make people reason in a survival way (meaning, they only think of how to eat). This was what led to Nigerias using the knowledge for negative things. As of today, a reasonable amount of the bright kids are going left because the knowledge is not producing any good play, but their mates with same knowledge using it for negative course and making money. That’s why the fraudsters are increasing.

Take sentiment out, I am talking about how to fix the country. to fix the country we have to admit our failures, errors and mistakes. But above all we have to be honest and tell ourself the truth.

That is the end for me on this topic. Aprokodaughter said in one of her post that when conversation don de too long e no de good. And she’s right cos we wan de attack personality, which to me is my own line.

Regards and blessed week ahead.
