Nigeria also won AFCON in Tunisia in 1994 and Cameroon won AFCON in Morocco in 1988. So there would always be outliers in data analysis.
Most North African teams perform well when the AFCON is hosted in North Africa. It is not an absolute statement. They can still win it outside of their sub-region but they perform better when it is played in North Africa than anywhere else.

My opinion about that Guinea-Bissau game is not to make too many changes to the starting lineup. It is very important that we maintain consistency and win that game against Guinea Bissau. We need to continue to build that momentum and maintain that winning spirit, also for more team cohesion.

I think Eguavoen should maintain that same backline and Ndidi- Aribo Midfield Combo. One of the starting wingers may start from the bench and We may give Sadiq a starting role for him to fully prove himself. For me, not more than 3 changes to the starting line up and it should be in the advanced positions.

I know the line you are towing, which is to keep playing the starting eleven to improve understand and cohesion but I disagree with this line of thinking. Why ? While the team has managed to score some goals they are still not a unit , except for some individual excellence. Therefore , since the team , and particularly the midfield had continued to collapse we must continue trying different players until we find a better combination. Thanks

VERTICALLY UP THE PITCH

This is what some people mean by playing with purpose. However, it is beyond advancing the ball up the pitch but breaking the opposition defense. Now, if you just move the ball up the pitch with passes, you run the risk of giving up possession. Not just that, you will lose possession. So, there is a need for back passes to:
1. Retain possession. You need to keep possession if you intend to break down the defense. You control the ball to cleverly break an organized side.

2. Exploit gaps. With clever retention of the ball, you get to exploit gaps finally created from it.

So a midfield conductor's role is to make this happen. He plays a big part in retaining possession, keeping the team's passing organized, and spotting gaps for the team to exploit.

Note, spotting gaps have to do with finding his own players in space.
