To some degree this is correct.
To me, I wouldn't say I do it cuz I'm the quiet type and it's not always clear to know when you've offended me. If a girl offend me, I tell her straight; if she wants to vex let her vex I'll tell her to her face (no public scene, I don't like that nonsense).
Effective communication matters too.

To add to it, you might want to humble them (especially the ones that carry themselves).
