Eguavoen Steps Down As Super Eagles Coach After AFCON 2021 Exit by Nemere2020(op): 11:07pm On Jan 23, 2022
Augustine Eguavoen has stepped down as the interim coach of the Nigeria national team.

This follows the Super Eagles’ 1-0 defeat to Tunisia in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 clash on Sunday.

Eguavoen had led the three-time champions to three straight wins against Egypt, Sudan and Guinea-Bissau.

However, they fell short against a Covid-stricken Tunisian team in the knockout stages.

“What happens next is that I’m the interim coach and Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

“I will go back to my position and allow the NFF (to) make a decision on the way forward,” Eguavoen said after the match.

Eguavoen stepped in after Gernot Rohr was sacked last month.
However, the NFF announced Jose Peseiro as the new permanent coach before the AFCON kicked off.

The Gaffer should have been given a long term contract to build the team.

Pinnick can now hire his foreign coach and share the Bogus Salary with him.

Add honorable to his name because he just did the honorable thing. Something most politicians can't, won't and will never do.

Time to ring the changes administratively and plot for how to whoop Ghana in the ass. grin

Re: Eguavoen Steps Down As Super Eagles Coach After AFCON 2021 Exit by festacman(m):
Augustine Eguavon is not particularly a successful coach going by accomplishments. But his bold performance at AFCON once again made a strong case for highly qualified indigenous coaches like Emmanuel Amunike, George Finidi, etc.

He was unlucky not to have Victor Osihmen, Dennis Emmanuel, Etebor, etc in the squad for selection. However, it must be said that rather than coach Eguavoen's tactics, it was team spirit and of course individual player form that took us far during group stage. When tactics were badly needed at KO stage, coach of Tunisian team showed superiority.

Nevertheless, in order not to distract the players, Augustine Eguavoen should oversee our WC qualifiers against Ghana.

Chai! He step down to avoid getting sacked. He knows that getting sacked on the job will otherwise spoil his CV.
Better to sack yourself than getting sacked. embarassed

I don't......He is good but he already had a job. The hype got into everybody and it looked like we already had the trophy...

I don't know where that was coming from? We learnt the hard way!

I wish him all d best, finally NFF don see enough reason to employ their white man n follow chop d fat salary wey dem go pay the new man.
i think it would be better for him to continue in dt post, he made some mistakes n dey were some tactially slacks from him last nite bt the most important tin I dt he gat d trust of the fans n it seems d players are all happy with him incharge
I expected anoda game plan last nite after his simon plan was hacked n bursted but he looked clueless n dt early second half goal exposed him n alos, him throwing subs without reading d game made Nigeria lost d game even before it ended..
I hope he av learned n dts life for us..

Pinnick and his minnows in NFF have played Nigeria out of another competition. I knew this would happen the moment Eguavoen started getting results! Remember that they had a signed agreement with Paseiro. If Eguavoen actually wins, what do the NFF do? Pay off Paseiro in millions of dollars! So, the safe choice is for Eguavoen to lose and still keep his own job as technical director!!! Afterall sef, they gave Eguavoen the opportunity to coach in the first instance.

Hopefully, our politicians will learn from this act.

So the man deserves an award for this action.

huh

I don't know why they can't just give him the job instead of employing a white man that would chop their money and not do a good job....

It is high time they look inward and stop wasting tax payers money...

Thats honourable!

However, why was he always subbing Musa and Iwobi?

Does any other player have the pace and morale of Musa in that team?

The guys presence speeds up the total play...observe when he came in and how the momentum picked up.

Eguavon did not bring any exceptional play...just exceptional talent in the person of Moses and those Midfielders.

Thanks for coming Augustine.

You gave your best, it wasn't just enough.

Nobody to blame, that is just football.
No need apportioning blames to any player right now.

We were all in Eldorado watching the first 3 games, (Who wouldn't?!)
but reality came to check all of us at the end.

We hope to be at the top of our game like in the Golden days of the Glorious Super Eagles of 1994.

God bless Nigeria.

Addendum : We wrote the below 3 hours before the game started last night,
We pray it doesn't happen,
But Alas!
Wishes are not horses that beggars could ride!

We Rise.

When Buhari lays his hands on you, your life will never remain the same, ask Super eagles, ask Anthony Joshua, and ask Nigerians.

We don suffer, small 22 joy Buhari stole it from us with his bad luck.

I should call Buhari on my enemies this year.
