I had forgotten to ask Mr Alfred if he was the one that shutdown the vehicle. There was no point recovering it back for it to start. The shutdown had put us in a very tight time constraints. Even if recovery command is issued, the criminals already know something is up. So we needed to act fast.

I had been occasionally checking the tracker from the app to see if it was still live. It still was. Sent a WhatsApp message to Mr John asking if there was any update, there was no reply.

Used the wait time to send WhatsApp messages and emails to all customers to send two relatives numbers to update on our system. By 10:10am, I checked the tracker from the management end. The worst has happened. The tracker had gone offline.

There are occasions when the device is receiving low gps signals that it goes offline, and comes back online once the reception is good, this occasions are rare. In such events, you can call the number in the tracker, if it rings, then there is no cause for alarm. The tracker will send a Google link location as text back.

Dialed the number in the tracker.. The number you've dialed is switched off! Danm!

Dialed the brother to the victims number. He picked on first ring.

Hello. Have you checked the app, the tracker is now offline. He said he has, and he was about calling me to know what the ash notification means. Told him what we had feared the most is happening. There are high chances the tracker had been tampered with.

All the Ray of hope we had, right before us was receding. I asked him, how far with his cousin. He said, he had gone directly to the closest military base, requested they accost him to the vehicle location, but they had insisted they can't go alone unless the police went with them

He went to the police station, reported the case, and informed them he knows where the vehicle is, and he will want them go with him to recover it. They said the dpo wasn't around. So the the DPO needs to be around before they can do their job? I quizzed. I don't know for them o.

That he left there and went to meet the vigilantes. The real hope we had, sadly, they weren't any different. Every of the relied security apparatus had a story to tell on why they can't go. Mahn, this is crazy i said.

Well, you know I already told you, we need to make this recovery happen ourselves. We will never be too sure what had happened to the vehicle at the last known location. The tracker had been online for that last 6hrs since the hijack. It was way too much time to stall and wait, coupled with the fact that the vehicle had been shutdown.

Did you later ask your brother if he was the one that shut it down? He said he did, and he told him, he had called his wife immediately he got access to a phone, explained what happened to him, and told her to send the shutdown command. It was a wrong move I said, and we can't blame him. Right now, we need to find ways to get to the location, we can never be too certain of what has happened to the vehicle.

Please tell your cousin to Try and go there. He should be discrete enough and not raise unnecessary suspicion. I want to assume the criminals are lurking around observing too.

He said he will. How far with your brother, I spoke with him. He sounds unruffled and calm. He said he is fine, and he is even headed to the village heads Palace. Ho. Great, great I quipped.

Let's ensure, we get to the vehicles location, and dont inform them about the tracker being offline not to douse their morale. He said has no intentions too.

Ho… My cousin just sent me a WhatsApp message now, he said he is on the way to the last known location of the vehicle. He has decided to go alone, as non of the security agencies has decided to accost. Phew

OK ok…. My heart beat had tripped in pace. Please get back to me, once he reaches out. He promised he will.

Seconds ticked, and seemed like hours…

By 11:30am, Mr John called. We've seen the vehicle. The thieves had parked the vehicle not far from a distant house, near a Bush shrubbs. The vehicle must have stopped abruptly while they were driving, and they eased it close to the road path. They'd put stones near the tyres to disguise like it had a fault

His cousin had gone there himself as promised, and walked casually like the everyday day person, and sighted the Rx from a distance. Close enough to identify the vehicle, and far enough not raise eyebrows from whomever was it, that was also keeping watch.

He called Mr John immediately, and informed him. Then called one of his friends to make arrangements for a tow van while still keeping a eye on the vehicle.

Mr Alfred, the owner of the Rx had been advised to go to the village head and report the incident. I didn't like the idea of him going to the Palace, nor even being at close range to where the possible perpetrators were. He went anyways, On getting to the Palace and narrating his ordeal, and how non of the security agents were forthcoming, the king was so furious and ordered that the police, military and vigilante be summoned to the Palace.

In no time, they arrived. It was later discovered that the same guns, double barrel pump action that the vigilantes use, was the same type of gun that was used for the robbery.

The vehicle was also parked close to the house of one of the commanders of the vigilantes. This could be a coicedence. But it is not our concern, we will leave the police to unravel that. The King was informed that we were already making provisions to take a towing van to the scene to tow the vehicle. He insisted there is need for a team of security men to rather go for the recovery.

The events of the tracker going offline, to finding it, and having the king involved turned all cards in our favour. Words had gone out that a stolen RX was in the village and nothing would be spared for her recovery.

As far as I was concerned. This was the peak of our expectations. The joy, the victory, the recovery was sure.

But the criminals were not going down without a fight. They began to call all close relatives of the victim with threats of killing him. That they didn't the first time, that they will this time. The first call they made was to his mum.

The criminals had searched the phone of the victim, and threatening just about anybody about killing the owner of the RX this time once they get him. That after they had spared his life and took just the vehicle and his phone, he had the effrontry to be tracking them. She should consider her son dead if he continues to pursue the recovery of his vehicle.

Called his wife too, to warn his husband, that they are coming for him. If she wants to see him alive, he had better get of their tail or pay with his life. Every contact on his phone that looks like a relative also had share of their outburst.

Mr John had called and informed me on the new development, that the criminals are spitting fire and brimstone. Asked him, if his brother was still at the Palace, and if he was, he should leave him immediately. If possible, leave Anambra completely. He said he will call him immediately.

As far as I was concerned, they were fighting a lost course and just bluffing. But not acting on their threats nor calling their bluff will be fool Hardy. Crazy world, they felt it a favor stealing another man's property and pushing him out of a moving vehicle deep in the Bush, where he won't able to get help. Bunch of dim wits

Mama had equally called the son to come back to Lagos and leave the vehicle. We are in a fix. So after knowing and seeing where your vehicle is, and so close to recovery and all that is left was getting a tow van. This idiots think we will just walk away.

Whoever they were, they know the owner was going to get back his vehicle, but they won't go down without a fight.

So do we just give in, and forget the vehicle because some heartless dumb criminals think we should. It is easier when you're not the one that is being threatened. As at the last time I confirmed, the victim of the stolen RX had left the Palace to somewhere safe. Against my proposition, he was still within Anambra. No, I wouldn't advise forgetting about his vehicle, not after finding it. I just preferred he was way more careful. This guys don't have anything to lose, if they had at all, it is not of value to them. Robbing people, and disposing individuals of their sweat is testament to this. They go home at night, smile like nothing happened, sleep and probably snore too. Wake up the next day and lie in wait for another victim of their callous inhumane act.

The truth is, nature works against the deceitful and the wicked people. It plays with their mind, and attract negative energies. Look around you, they just don't look it. They view the world with a suspicious lens and will never get the best out of life.

The cousin to the victim, Chijioke, who happens to be on ground and the hero of this recovery operations, also got his own share of the barrage and threats. From 11am, till 3pm, when the vehicle was discovered, nobody had enough will to go back to where the vehicle was.

By 9:30pm, the vehicle was towed to the police station in nkwolobia, credits to the village head, who had continued to mount pressure on the police and vigilante for the recovery.

All this while, the spare key for the RX had been sent to Jibowu Park in Lagos to waybill to Anambra. It would later arrive the next day.

Was I happy? Happy is an understatement, but our joy will not be full until Mr Alfred returns to Lagos, safe and sound, like he did on the 26th of December, saying goodbye to his family, and cruising in his just landed RX to pay a visit to his clan. Like everything in life, life happens to us all. The good, the bad, the ugly. The mix of the three defines life. This ugly experience was a bad one that would later end with the good feeling of recovering that which was lost.

What Business has he with the Robbers, non! There was no reason for him to be a target. Life happened, the moment one realizes that you don't need to offend people before they attack you, you achieve another level of awareness. It is life. Preparing for the bad, is what makes you Insure your vehicle, same reason you install a vehicle tracker. This are not full proof to an ugly event ending Good. But knowing that what ever happens, I am picking my pieces up, and I will keep moving. My good is just right ahead, because life will happen, and she will bring her.

By 11am the next day, I got a call that the key for the RX had been Brought and the vehicle is not starting. Checked the tracker app, to see if the shutdown command was still on. It was. Sent a command for recovery. It went through. Called them back to start vehicle again. Same thing, it wouldn't start

Na wa o. Did the criminals Tamper with the car knowing it was no good?

To be continued.

Dealing with a non starting vehicle is the least of the problems we've faced since we started the recovery. Vehicle is no longer with the Robbers, that is the most important thing.

Shutting down a stolen vehicle is always not advised, except you are close to the point of recovery. What makes gps car trackers worth it is actually the ability to track, and also replay all the places the vehicle has been to. Shutdown function is an icing on the cake, and not primary. It happens to be what freaks customers the most to get them installed.

You risk losing a vehicle after tracking, and you go ahead to shutdown. The criminals will either do two things, leave and run out of fear if they are not yet pros. Or they try and find out why the vehicle is off, give them time, they will locate the tracker and disable it. Without shutting the vehicle down, they will probably not be aware they are being tracked, with a shut down they go ahead and do the worst.

If you've ever noticed vehicles burnt to ashes along highways and you've always wondered what probably caused it. Search no further, some of the times, this guys steal a vehicle and owner shuts it down. They rather the vehicle was in ashes than the owner coming for it in one piece.

The best move in an event you are faced with a car hijack situation, of course you will panic, in fact, panic, but don't struggle with them, it is just a car after all, properties can be replaced, can be recovered, but life can't. When they ask if you have a tracker installed, some go that length, tell them you don't. Your safety is important, pursue that. And plan for recovery as soon as possible. With the destination Replay function, you can Always see core locations. Where they drove the vehicle to, where they slept. You should only shutdown when you are close to the vehicle.

We were lucky in this event that non of the downside of shutting down without concrete plan of recovery didn't happen except the fact that the vehicle isn't starting. Asked them to check if they could see any sign of tampering. They said Non. The problem should be the spare key then. Told them to check if the immobiliser light is steadily on or off after turning the ignition on. They confirmed it was on. Eureka, the problem is the key, it hasnt been programmed to the vehicle.

The owner just got the vehicle in December, less than a month ago, and never tried to see of the spare was starting the vehicle too. Note to vehicle owners, always have a working spare key.

We needed to get a programmer, and getting a professional is important, or else they could ruin the vehicle. Some owners car problem start with misplacing their keys, and one dummy rather than admit he does not know how to, will start using the vehicle for experiments. Not this RX. Not under my watch.

I contacted a longtime colleague I had met in my days in Aba, but resident in Onitsha. He is also a nairalander, one of the techs gazzuzz trained and took his craft to Anambra, his name is Daniel, not real name.

Sent a WhatsApp message to him.

I sent his number to Mr John, we went and programmed the vehicle. And on the 13th of January, the vehicle was driven back to Lagos. Owner is safe, vehicle is recovered.

This is one of many recoveries. A tracker does not protect your vehicle from being stolen, nor an assurance of recovering it. It gives you the chance for recovery and knowing where it is. It even transcends beyond theft, its core use is monitoring. Knowing where your vehicle is, replaying all the places it has been to. This information is the fulcrum and core of recovery in an event of theft.

Shout out to everyone. If you have a car, let's install a tracker for you. If you don't have one, may the good Lord bless your hustle and give you one.

Thanks to everyone!

PS.

I will continue to update this thread and give information on how to make use of your car Tracker.
