Any attacker carrying the mantle of the team hardly goes back to their box 18 to defend, it's common sense. That doesn't mean they don't put in defensive shifts.

In the season Mane tied Salah on goals, he was very clinical and occasionally had to take up the CF position during games but that was for just that season, he couldn't maintain that hot streak because it's just not his game...

Mane is a great player but this season, he has not played at the level we have cone to expect from him. So, whilst you'd still find him tracking back and progressing with the ball, he just doesn't get past players or score as much as he did when he peaked a couple of seasons ago...For now, Salah is clearly having the better season...I make bold to say that if Egypt had won the AFCON, then Salah would have stood a good chance to win the Balon d'or assuming Liverpool go ahead to win a couple of trophies but it's not a case with Mane, he has not had a stellar season up to this moment though if he up his game and plays a stellar role for Liverpool in the remaining months of a season, the odds might just switch to his favor...
