Education gave them resources to fend for themselves. Now they have the option to walk away from bad marriages. We know women stayed married in the past because husbands were their literal meal tickets. They couldn’t own bank accounts, property or stocks unless their husbands or fathers approved. The financial power that men deliberately held over them made it impossible to leave even in the face of abuse.
Now armed with better resources, they can walk if things get bad.

So education didn’t make them bad wives. It empowered them to leave bad marriages.
