daveP: Moved on, watching a quintessential kick and rush team a blood and guts playing a 0-0 at half time against Everton. This is team from the national League, Boreham Wood. When it comes to the 75th minute of the game the better fitness of Everton will come to the forefront and Boreham Wood may concede 3 goals in the last quarter. If they beat Everton which is Very unlikely if not near impossible. Ah heads will role. 1 Like |

According to authoritative German sports magazine Kicker via Fussballtransfers, Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg attempted to sign Union Berlin center forward Taiwo Awoniyi in the January transfer window but were unsuccessful. VfL Wolfsburg also wanted the 2013 U17 World Cup winner before his permanent move to Union Berlin in July 2021. Awoniyi has been one of the revelations of the season in Germany, scoring fifteen goals in 32 appearances across all competitions. The 24-year-old became Union Berlin's record acquisition when he signed from Liverpool for 6.5 million euros after previously playing on loan at the club. Wolfsburg did transfer business with Union Berlin in the winter transfer market, bringing in Germany international Max Kruse but Awoniyi was their primary target to strengthen the attack. Awoniyi wasn't interested in moving to Wolfsburg because he has found a permanent club after several loan spells during his time in Liverpool. He has totaled four appearances for the Super Eagles, three of them earned at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, where he was manager Augustine Eguavoen's preferred choice to lead the attack due to the unavailability of Victor Osimhen, Odion Ighalo, Paul Onuachu and Emmanuel Dennis. 3 Likes |

Eguavoen should better not select an imbalanced squad vs Ghana and he must ensure that his midfield selections are intact and valid |

Philosopher1979: Shouldn't selection be about the best players we can get. That selection quest is intrinsically tied to best league and club , you cannot make assumptions about quality it must be proven. Once selected you must perform because if you don't then your selection can become DESELECTION. In this regard Nwakeame and Yusuf dont cut it and considering the varied options available in midfield they are not good enough. I know many anchor their deductions on past youthful U17 glories including the NFF. However, that approach is fraught with with too much error and is more emotive than objective performance related. 1 Like |

daveP: I have seen this play out so many times over the years. Boreham Wood are in the 5th tier of English football and a lot of the players are part timers, it's more or less non league. As a consequence, they may be able to defend and put up a fairly decent fight. But once you get to the second half and the last quarter. They just don't have the fitness to compete with a premier League club. However, when it comes to the Championship it becomes a totally different ball game. Not surprising, FA cup quarter finals ( last 8 ) you have two championship sides in the last eight, which includes. Liverpool, Manchester city, Chelsea followed by Southampton and Crystal palace. Tottenham, Leicester, Arsenal, Manchester United got knocked out by Championship sides. There is no in other second tier in Europe that will have that level of quality to compete with first tier league. |

komekn: Dortmund and Bayern were knocked out of the DFB Pokal by who again? PSG with all their millions got booted out of the Coupe de France by, remind me, who? I guess Copa del Rey finals is between Barca and Real Madrid. Oh, it's not, and one of the semifinalists was promoted from the Segunda this season? Wow, the English leagues are really special, really unique. After all, Liverpool and Chelsea played the Carabao finals, not Bournemouth and QPR - unlike other leagues where actual small teams upset the big boys everyday. 6 Likes |
