Roland17:That's your opinion brother. Nobody knows for sure if sugar Ray was going to mop the floor with this current prime Canelo who's a well rounded savage |

donlittle25:Oga that's not how this maths works. One person is shooting 2s while the other is shooting 3s. Don't make it as if one is shooting 3s while the other is shooting neither 2s nor 3s. I saw one rubbish math someone put up here just to mislead people. If both Tatum and Bird shoot 20 shots per game (and assuming they make all), but Tatum shoots 8 threes and Bird shoots only 3, that accounts for 5 more points than Bird. (2×17) + (3×3)= 34+9 = 43 for Bird (2×12) + (3×8 )= 24+24 = 48 for Tatum And for your info, Bird averaged 0.7 made threes per game for his career. Tatum is averaging 2.2. That accounts for less than 2 more points. Tatum's record for most 3s in a game is 9. Bird is 7, twice. And who knows whether he had his 50+ points in either of those games. So I really don't see the fuss about 3 point shooting. |

When someone says Sugar Ray would have mopped the floor with Canelo, it's best you don't listen to whatever else he has to say about sports. You can never tame that obstinacy. |

Tellwhat:It's just like saying basketballers of the 50s and 60s were better than basketballers of the 80s and 90s. Does that even make sense? And to prove their point they'll bring up the cream of the crop like Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell and say because those guys are top 10 all time, nothing else matters. Bill Russell won virtually all the championships in that era while Wilt won every personal accolade. Why? Because there was no competition. That lack of competition extended into the 80s and 90s, although it reduced a bit along the line. Those guys were good no doubt, but are you telling me Bill Russell wins 11 championships in this era? Will Wilt win 7 scoring titles and 11 rebounding titles in this era? Would MJ win 10 scoring titles in this era? The answer is an emphatic NO. As great a scorer as KD is, he has been able to win just 4, and he has played as many years as MJ played. Steph Curry, whom they say shoots a ton of 3s and so should be scoring so many points, has only 2 scoring titles. Nobody in this era is going to watch anybody win 10 scoring titles in 13 years. |

A casual would see this stat line and start to dey foam for mouth, how would julius randle, i mean randle shoot 16 3's in a game and you tell me the game isn't flawed today? this is the height of uselessness for a big man to shoot this ton.

| Re: The NBA Begins by Tellwhat: 12:15pm On Mar 08, 2022 |
joshboo:Una no dey tire with all this comparison |
| Re: The NBA Begins by steady986(m): 1:05pm On Mar 08, 2022 |
They said players today are bigger, stronger and faster, pesin bring average height comot. Is it not common knowledge that players of old were taller? Lol. It's a plus to this era that these players are doing great things despite their height. |
| Re: The NBA Begins by birdman(m): 2:39pm On Mar 08, 2022 |
A40:Since when was height a measure of athleticism or being strong. Manute Bol, Shawn Bradley are both very tall and big but thats about it. When we say bigger stronger, faster, we mean the combo. To be big like KAT, strong enough to dunk and block shots, fast enough to dribble the ball and score, and skilled enough to win a 3pt shooting contest. Give me someone from the old era with that skillset. I'll wait! |
| Re: The NBA Begins by birdman(m): 2:39pm On Mar 08, 2022 |
steady986:Dem stat masters are here ![]() |
| Re: The NBA Begins by Tellwhat: 3:06pm On Mar 08, 2022 |
birdman:Nice. That kat is awesome hopefully he improves Maybe most of this guys will rather have a Yao Ming or tacko fall |
| Re: The NBA Begins by A40(m): 4:37pm On Mar 08, 2022 |
birdman:Alaye. What does a KAT do better than a KG, Hakeem besides shooting 3's? In terms of pure fundamentals and all round play. I just told you the only difference between the 90s and this era is the 3pt shooting so your argument is completely moot. Everyone wants to be like Steph now. That's why I challenged anyone to show me what this era is better at besides shooting more 3pointers |
| Re: The NBA Begins by A40(m): 4:41pm On Mar 08, 2022 |
joshboo:These clowns simply don't think. You will see a stat line like this and still be asking how Jayson Tatum is able to match Larry Bird's 50 point record. Meanwhile 16 3's mean a potential 48 points and that's not even factoring free throws. These are the kind of halfwits we are dealing with. So this is the supposed highlight of skills. Your ability to spam 3's ![]() |
| Re: The NBA Begins by A40(m): 4:47pm On Mar 08, 2022 |
Tellwhat:Are you seeing the mugs he is fighting? Caleb Plant? Julio Chavez Jr Man's was smack dab in his prime getting gift wrapped dodgy wins against an aging GGG. Sugar Ray would run circles around him. Only Muppets who know nothing about boxing would argue otherwise |
| Re: The NBA Begins by birdman(m): 4:49pm On Mar 08, 2022 |
A40:Cool, I'll give you that, KG over KAT. Now how many bigs in KG's day could do similar. Timmy D, who else. Today we have countless bigs with similar skillset. Embiid, KAT, Jokic, AD, KD, Giannis. Even second tier folk like Bam. We haven't even looked at the rookie/sophomore class yet! I didnt even add Zion! The league is far deeper and more skilled. When KG came out of high school, that was like phenomenal, like we never see that before. Now, guys are coming out of high school and balling within one season. |

A40:Ok man. If you say so |
| Re: The NBA Begins by A40(m): 5:17pm On Mar 08, 2022 |
This fugazi basketball analyst don start again. Man's brought up highs as proof that an era is better, now them don disprove his argument he is going back to averages. ![]() We're not even going to mention the fact that Bird had over a dozen games of 45 and above points to further rubbish his argument. Bottomline is anyone with even basic knowledge of stats that due to the proliferation of 3's in today's game it would be easier to match the career highs of players of yore. All it takes is two big 3pt shooting nights and another night you get all the foul calls in your favor. It's that simple I'm glad this placebo analyst brought up KD. I bet he didn't know that KD won 4 scoring titles in the space of 5 seasons. Could have won 5 in 6 seasons and only lost to Melo in 2013 cos he played 14 more games than Carmelo did. Got hurt in 2015 and his teammate Russ won it and then we know what happened in 2016. Do you think Jordan would have won 10 scoring titles if he was joining team to team like today's players do. Obviously not! But how is that supposed to be a knock on Jordan? Didn't James Harden win scoring title 3 years in a row? So what is so competitive about this era that one man cannot dominate such award. You mean if he stayed in Houston and didn't pull off his antics he couldn't have shot for 5 in a row? |
| Re: The NBA Begins by A40(m): 5:36pm On Mar 08, 2022 |
birdman:Lol. Bam? Now you're just taking the piss Are you serious right now? Didn't I tell you the only thing bigs do better now is shoot the 3? Did you watch Shaq before he was a 300 pounder? In his Orlando days when he was still slim? Zion? Lmaoooo. Zion is basically Blake Griffin with more melanin. Stop mistaking genetics for actual skills Did you watch Hakeem? Chris Webber? David Robinson, Karl Malone? I'm asking you again. What is today's league and bigs better at besides spamming 3 point shooting |
| Re: The NBA Begins by Khanben: 6:02pm On Mar 08, 2022 |
A40:Tyson fury will beat the hell out of Ali, Frazier and co. LT was 6ft 3 240lbs and was considered a unicorn when he played. Nowadays every single NFL teams has a player with better physical traits at OLB. By the way LT was for most of his destructive years blocked by TEs, there is a reason he is given as the reason for the preeminence of Left tackles in today's game. |
| Re: The NBA Begins by Khanben: 6:11pm On Mar 08, 2022 |
A40:This is where I always have issue with all this old days were better. From Hakeem to Webber is 3 plus decades of basketball. If we start this new 3ball era from 2015, we are just at 7 years and guess what in that time we already have 3 bigs who are MVP caliber in Joker, Embidd and Giannis, and maybe 2 more depending on how you categorize them can legitly be all nba level, in AD and KAT. In another 23 years I will bet the quantity of players will match up with those who have come before. |
| Re: The NBA Begins by Khanben: 6:21pm On Mar 08, 2022 |
joshboo:The game is being played smarter. Maybe that annoys some people but that is a fact. The first time I started to actually understand shooting percentages In the early 2000s, it always suprised me why some people chose to take the 18ft over just taking the 3. Shooting 50% from 18ft was a great percentage in the good old days, but shooting 35% from 3 is better and that is just a fact. |
| Re: The NBA Begins by joshboo(m): 6:51pm On Mar 08, 2022 |
Khanben: fury would beat Ali, fraizer and co? Be like you don start to dey take comedy lessons, the jokes are funny sha, no offence kk. That being said, Lennox Lewis would rag-roll Fury talk more of the mentioned. |
| Re: The NBA Begins by joshboo(m): 7:07pm On Mar 08, 2022 |
Khanben:So it was Giannis and jokers ability to shoot tons of 3's that won them mvps abi wetin be this? Nawa |
| Re: The NBA Begins by A40(m): 7:39pm On Mar 08, 2022 |
Khanben:You really know nothing about boxing and I don't mean this in a disrespectful way. In your eyes once someone is bigger it automatically means they are better. Just because Tyson outboxed a guy like Deontay Wilder with zero boxing nous doesn't mean he beats the Alis, Larry Holmes, Lennox Lewis etc Tyson Fury has a 40 pound advantage on Wilder yet he was floored 4 times by an agricultural boxer like Wilder, what do you think happens when he faces people that can actually box? It's abundantly clear now that just like Vince McMahon you have a size fetish. You don't take into account their fundamentals, motor and their innate gifts and smarts. You would make a terrible scout What is Aaron Donald's size relative to other defensive tackles right now? In your eyes size is the sole determinant of greatness. Yet Draymond Green at 6'7 is comfortably playing center in this era. |
| Re: The NBA Begins by A40(m): 7:45pm On Mar 08, 2022 |
joshboo:He knows nothing about Boxing. He just casted himself with that talk. A poverty boxer like Wilder dropped him 4 times what does he think would happen if he faced guys that could actually box |
| Re: The NBA Begins by Roland17(m): 7:52pm On Mar 08, 2022 |
A40:The capping off me. Shey na this era when dem don pad gloves abi na the one wen dem dey duck each other until your opponent old? Abi na the one wen referee dey save boxers before dem kill dem with punches? Ask them when Fury became popular and a World Champion? Who are the baddest heavyweight boxers in today's boxing? Dem fit list pass Wilder/ Fury and our Boy? |
| Re: The NBA Begins by birdman(m): 7:56pm On Mar 08, 2022 |
A40:Somehow you skipped the first 5 I mentioned: Giannis, KAT, Jokic, AD, Embiid, to focus on Bam. Nice try. Because you know those 5 destroy your argument. But lets leave that for now. I purposely did not mention Hakeem because he was not in KG's era, but if you go to Hakeem's era, which other big man was versatile? Please dont mention Shawn kemp or Ewing lol. Shaq at the end of Hakeem's era was very dominant, but he had to be in the post to do damage. Webber was nice, but is he Embiid or Jokic of Giannis level? No. He was an expcellent passer with a midrange jumpshot. David Robinson? Loool. stop it. The Admiral was a defensive machine, but needed Timmy D to get that ring. Look how Hakeem flogged him! Karl Malone? What was his stats without the Stockton PnR. Could he shoot the 3? Or pass to any PG not named Stockton? I can forgive Chris Webber, but The Admiral and the Mail Man? Bwahahahaha ![]() |
| Re: The NBA Begins by A40(m): 8:08pm On Mar 08, 2022 |
Khanben:This is a super dishonest take. And nobody here has shown me exactly what today's bigs consistently do better besides 3pt shooting. These guys averaged 15 years or more at overlapping time intervals so I don't understand your point Hakeem, Dirk, Shaq, Duncan, KG, The Admiral, Mailman. All league and Finals MVPs Which of today's bigs or the ones 20 years to come will top the names I listed. Cos of all the names I'm seeing you list I can only see 1 finals MVP |
| Re: The NBA Begins by A40(m): 8:16pm On Mar 08, 2022 |
Roland17:Can you imagine robotic and chinny Anthony Joshua fighting a Ken Norton or a Joe Frazier who might lose but is ready to die in the ring. Fighting is not by the size of the dog but the fight in the dog. I respect Fury but when someone looks at just his size and conclude he beats the greats of old when I saw a mediocre boxer 40 pounds lighter drop him severally and he barely made it through. That's laughable punditry |
| Re: The NBA Begins by Roland17(m): 8:17pm On Mar 08, 2022 |
A40:Help me ask them who dey play defense against these their bigs? Embiid and AD go survive 90s abi? You mean the ones that are spending more minutes on street clothes despite the offensive advantage? |
| Re: The NBA Begins by A40(m): 8:44pm On Mar 08, 2022 |
birdman:Guy you have no argument. Embiid is basically a poor imitation of Hakeem and is destroying the league. What does that tell you? I have no care for the rest of the guys you mentioned. Their supposed skillset barely leads their teams past the first round aside Giannis that has won a chip. KAT is taking 6-7 3's a game. That's not versatility. That's 3 points spamming. I can make exception for Jokic who runs his team's offense but that's about it birdman:Ewing was not versatile? Na wa oh. Once player no dey shoot 3 pointer for your eye e no dey versatile be that. You people are too caught up in the aesthetics. Which player dey easy on the eye. Na so una dey judge versatility, whether e productive or not birdman:Giannis is the only made man on this list. I don't see prime Webber that was going to to toe with Kobe and Shaq far behind the others birdman:Obviously Hakeem was better but The Admiral could score with the best of them. Don't play. The man dropped 71 in an NBA game What is Stockton's stats without Karl Malone? Which kin argument be this |
| Re: The NBA Begins by A40(m): 8:50pm On Mar 08, 2022 |
Roland17:I don't even know what their definition of skill is. Cos we were all here last season and last two seasons when they told us Giannis has no skills. For all this argument the only player I can defer to is Jokic who can actually run an offense. The rest is like arguing who is more skilled btw Skip to my Lou and Steph Curry. Is your skills translating to Ws or Finals MVPs is all I care about |
