I swear to God... Africa is a cursed continent. How can d 2nd largest continent in d world can't even boast of a tiny fraction of d US GDP? And I think one of d major problems bedeviling Africa is leadership. So pathetic. If we divide d GDP of d US into 50, Nigeria will probably just take 1 but Nigeria's population is barely half d US'. Yet this country has innumerable Mineral resources d size America can only envy, not to talk d human capital resources. Hunger, death, famine, malnutrition, political violence, illiteracy are d only things d continent is known for & Nigeria stands tall in all these.
I wish i was never born here & I wish that stupid Lugard never amalgamated us.
WHICH COUNTRY GAT RESOURCE THE SIZE OF AMERICA ? WHY DID U OPEN UR MOUTH WAAH TO TALK SHIT ? GOOGLE COUNTRIES WITH MOST RESOURCE

Gpd per head gives you the actual wealth of a nation.
Nope
Nominal gdp gives you the actual wealth of a nation while gdp per head gives you the standard of living of the people of a nation…..

We wouid have overtaken a lot of countries who have left us behind today, if not for bad leadership....and the menace rages on. Making it better depends on you and I

Nigeria tried if we are being honest.
Considering our population, our contribution is abysmal.

We need to find ways to get more out of our human capital.

These data are outdated, the latest figures show that most of these countries have higher GDP now. You can go to their Wikipedia page to check this.

Reading this thread confirms my fears that the average Nigerian youth knows little about economics. Not even more than 3 people could tell the error in the OP's claims.

The list just tells you about the size of the country's economy and not necessarily the average wealth or how rich.

Nigeria got a population of about 200 million, one of the largest in the world with oil, and so the economy is large given the size.

However, if you check the GDP per capita, Nigeria will not be even close to the top 60 richest countries.

There are a lot of very educated people on Nairaland. I've learnt a lot from them. I mean very well read people. However,my mind boggles when I come across the free floating stupidity of some dumb people here. The report is using the GDP as an indicator,NOT the human development index, yet some are saying the composers ,who got their data from sources as the IMF, are wrong. It's crazy!
Nigeria's economy in terms of GDP is well over $500 billion, and that's why it's Africa's biggest economy. And,that's why doubters,it's on the list of the 20 something biggest economies in the world.
China is still a developing economy in terms of human capital development, but in terms of its GDP ,it's not too far from the US.
Economists in the house, could you ,please, educate these folks?

Listing Nigeria among the richest country in the world is a pure joke. Average Nigeria are glowing under extreme poverty and suffering. Economy is in comatose, no good roads, no jobs, inflation is skyrocketing on daily basis.
Maybe these people are using Buhari, Obasanjo, Tinubu and co to determine the richness of this country, if not Comoros and Gambia are better country than this yeye nation

How do I explain this....GDP is based on the size of your economy. Nigeria by it's size means it will generate a lot of economic activities combined. That's why we are above south Africa for instance. This is different from per capita income.

For our size, we are massively underperforming. Check other countries with our similar population....Russia and Nigeria are about the same population....no other country with our population is below us ...

But if you query them, they would think they are incredibly smart; that if you take them out of Nigeria and drop them in any country in the world, they would go their and outshine everybody in that country.

Not knowing, if they go to modern countries, na only unskilled jobs, like toilet cleaning, dem brains go qualify them for.
