Please I need advice

Have been admitted for PhD program fully funded + graduate housing and meal scholarship.

-How can I get appointment date. Getting date is difficult.
- it's advisable to go with dependent (s)

Congrats. Apply for a visa and pick the earliest date you can find. Then make an emergency request if your resumption is less than 60 days away. Hope for the best and check your account at least once a day, because you may not be notified.

It's always better to go without dependents if you can. Then bring them over when it is convenient after one semester. However, you can go with dependents, but the 'family ties' bit might be hanging over your head and make you nervous.

Please help clear my confusion

1. With a PhD full funding, is it advisable to apply for the student's I-20 and that of the dependent at the same time?
2. Will there be a need to provide for living expenses of the dependent outside of the funding or the funding can cover both of them?
3. If they are to apply for it same time, can they attend visa interview same time?
4. Are they going to fill separate DS 160 form? If yes, how can they plan to attend interview together?
5. How do you advise the dependent to answer the question 'why do you want to go with your spouse?

Thank you.

1. Always better to go first time without dependents. Else, you usually get your i-20 first, then request for each dependent (not sure).
2. You would need to prove to the VO that your funding (or SoA or both) covers the living expenses.
3. Visa interview has to be the same slot if applying around the same time. You typically add dependents on your F-1 application.
4. Yes, separate DS 160. Again, there's a section to add dependents ahead of your F-1 appointment.
5. Support him/her, babysit the kids, etc

I applied March 7 and my resumption date is May15th. Travel date is April 15. And I’ve not gotten a response yet.

What could be wrong?

Looks like you and I are in the same boat. Please update when you get one. I should be back in school now, and I applied in early March. No response yet.

I have a permanent residence in Ghana what are the chances of obtaining a student visa in Ghana or Benin Republic?Or should I just apply in Nigeria instead?
Anyone with information about applying for student visa from the US embassy in Ghana or US embassy in Benin Republic should kindly answer.

STILL NEED HELP WITH THE BELOW ALL.

mobbwc:
Hello House,

I have a inquiry, I will state my story briefly:

I sought to apply for an f2 visa, I filled the DS-160, paid in the bank, opened an account on USTRAVELDOCS, and I am currently at the stage where I am supposed to book an appointment. I have not booked the appointment because I have not seen a favourable date.

The Twist

I have now gained admission and wish to apply for an f1 visa to attend my program. its logical I abandon the earlier f2 application but I am unsure the steps I need to take to begin/complete the F1 application. do i fill new ds-160, do I proceed with the same USTRAVELDOCS account (how? considering that an f2 application is live in the account), or I will be eligible to open another USTRAVELDOCS account?

I will appreciate your kind and step by step guidance on how I need to complete the application given my unique situation.

Thank you

Fill a new ds160. Then apply for an F1 visa instead with your mrv receipt etc. I’m not versed in this area but if the above is possible then do it.

Fill a new DS 160. Then update your visa page with the new DS 160 and SEVIS number. You have no problem.

I was given admission by University of Georgia with full tuition waver and assistanship despite having cgpa of 3.18/5.... With gre of 330/340...very strong sop and CV,backed with four recommendation letters, two from my lectures and other two from my former employer and present employer.
If your cgpa is low it doesn't matter, what they will look at is if you were involved in extra activities during your undergraduate that leads to benefit of your former school.with this they will take it as this is what distracted you to perform very well during your undergraduate.
Good GRE result attested to this fact and make them assume thats exactly what happened.lol
All this depends on how you play your game jare.

Wow this is key.. this extra curricular because my GPA is 2.85/4.. but with my GRE of 321 bro,can I also get a full funding too,is it possible, heard of any with my kinda GPA and GRE score that got full funding bro

Thanks so much,

I was denied Emergency request cos my admission previously was for Spring 2022 so I requested for expedition last year and I was granted Dec 1st 2021 at Abuja embassy, my visa was denied so I deferred my admission to summer 2022. Now there's no closer available date and I got a reply from the embassy after requesting for emergency again that they cannot grant emergency for the person that was denied of visa of recent thats why I was looking for another way to get an appointment.

Just an observation-

Your visa was denied and you didn’t bother sharing your transcript so that others will advise or possibly learn. Not a good practice on this platform.

I wish you good-luck with your date search and ultimately, visa.

Bro/sis,

Our research interest varies, so also is our undergraduate course which we studied. All I can say is to get your documents ready and research online about universities offering the course(s) which you want.

Example, US universities offering Msc in Biology. Go to their finance and aid to check if they offer funding or full scholarship. Then take it up from there.

Hello gurus, I trust we're all doing great. Just a little clarification pls;

If my i-20 has an error that ought to be corrected, does it affect the SEVIS ID or it remains thesame?

Really want to make SEVIS payment before the person to help make the payment will travel

Thanks
