Hello.
I've had few people ask me if they can wear the hijab to take their passport photo and the answer is yes. You can also wear it for your interview. Just wanted to post this as a member here urgently emailed me about it today.

Best of luck to everyone

Guys, I need help. I have been offered admission for Fall 2022 in the US and my I-20 has been sent to me. I have two different questions I'd like to ask. The first one is: I was awarded a GTA funding for the first 12months but my I-20 is showing funding for 9months while I was awarded a GTA funding for 12months. Is this a mistake from my school and will the 9months of funding be enough for documentation at the US embassy for an interview?

My second question is. I have completed my DS-160 application form and have paid all necessary fees but while booking an appointment today, 7th April 2022, I am seeing appointments dates that are well over my program start date which is 22nd August 2022. I am told that I need to request an expedited appointment. But on the instructions on the portal, u can't book an expedited appointment until u are within 60days to your school start date. For me, I will be within that 60days around the 22nd of June, 2022. What do you suggest I do guys? Should I go ahead and request for the expedited appointment or I should wait till that June while using the opportunity to check if any closer dates have been released. Pls, I need your suggestions and advice. Thank you.

Hello gurus,

Pls assist me, it's possible this question has been asked and answered, pls pardon if it has Biko.

With the current Incessant ASUU strike, my son gained admission last year to UNN Chemical engineering, his Waec is very much good.
I want him to look for University he can apply to for scholarship either fully funded or half or none.

I made an enquiry to the proprietor of the lesson he was attending before he gained admission if they have any particular plan in place for such undergraduate that are at home as a result of the Strike, he said no. But
he suggested foreign Exams like SAT.
To study in the US or Canada.
Please advise me on which of these listed he should write ( (SAT is 65k, IELTS is 80k , TOEFL is 120k)

Thanking you very much

Hello ma,

For undergraduate admission and funding, only Waec and SAT is usually considered. He has to ace the SATs to get a full ride. IELTS and TOEFL is usually waived for Nigerians. He might have to evaluate his waec with WES too.

If money isn’t an issue and you don’t mind the UK, he could get into an integrated Masters in Engineering (M.Eng) straight with waec and earn a Masters degree in Engineering in 4years instead of spending 5years in this rubbish dead frustrating no future country.

I see someone recommended The UK and Canada. I personally don’t understand the Canadian system. You can look into it too ma.

Hello everyone,
I appreciate the support we’re all giving ourselves here.
I’ll be resuming to an Ivy-L school with full ride financial support and fellowship this fall. After paying for SEVIS and MRV, I scheduled a visa appointment for February 2023, which was the only available date. I made the decision with the aim of applying for an emergency appointment to meet up with my August resumption date.

I would like to seek your comment on the following;
1. While filling for emergency appointment yesterday, I had technical issues, hence, my request was submitted without my support documents upload (I-20, Sevis, and admit letter). In such situation, would you advise that I send an email or call the embassy about this technical error?

2. How many times can one apply for emergency appointment?

Thanks.

The VO nicely gave me a blue letter.

Well, I didn’t stop there, I pleaded that he tell me what I am not doing right with my application. He was so nice to say “I will advice you work on your Home ties. They are not strong enough.”

I went back to my hotel room battered and shattered.

My advise and what I am working on is to get a full funding before trying again.

I am available to answer questions and clarification about the whole thing.

Thank you.

Since the VO was kind enough to tell you that the issue was one of weak home ties, why are you still insistent in your belief that the problem was one of funding?

I think the accelerated masters program in the US is 5yrs, and not 4.

ThisGuy indeed you are, Thanks a million, I really appreciate your detailed information on this, very insightful. Thanks

Studying abroad is a very expensive and peculiar journey. You should make up your mind to spend a lot of money in your #AbroadRuns.

If money isn’t an obstacle for you, you should definitely look towards the UK. I think the only credentials you to gain admission need are IELTS and a WAEC result.

If money isn’t an obstacle and you want a quicker and surer root to PR, you should go for Canada. You’ll need IELTS, I think.

If you’re looking for any sort of scholarships, partial or full, you should look towards the US. You’ll need to write SAT tho.

Please take my advice with a grain of salt.

Good morning Zino,
Thanks for your help and support to this.
Please help me clarify this in bracket (do you mean if he goes for SAT he could get into an integrated Masters in Engineering (M.Eng) straight with waec and earn a Masters degree in Engineering in 4years instead of spending 5years.)
The Master degree your are referring to is it not a second degree. He is still an undergraduate student 100level here. And it's when one finished his degree course for 4yrs/5yrs that he/she can go for a Master degree.
I am not clear with it,pls don't mind me o, kindly throw more light, weither its first degree you are mentioning, as you are saying Master degree. What he is doing is Mechanical engineering. Thanks a lot

Your I-20 is correct.
About the date too, you can choose that and be checking for earlier date and once it's 60 days to start of program you can apply for EA if you weren't able to get a closer date.

VO asked the regular questions of Why are you going to the school, who told you about the school, are you married or engaged, who is sponsoring and all.

After those questions, he paused for a second looked into his system, looked at me again and asked if I have been denied before. I answered yes.

He further asked what has changed. I told him about my finances. The last time I had only the loan funding but this time, my family support came in for my living expenses and the loan for my tuition.

The VO nicely gave me a blue letter.

Well, I didn’t stop there, I pleaded that he tell me what I am not doing right with my application. He was so nice to say “I will advice you work on your Home ties. They are not strong enough.”

Hi, so sorry about your experience
Please, I would like to know what your home ties were, that he felt isn't strong enough.

Also, now that this has happened, can you like just create another account with a new VISA fee and get another emergency appointment or you will have to wait for 60 days?

Looking forward to your response.

After proper evaluation, I figured that the issue isn’t home ties. Reason because there are usually 4 home ties you could use. Professional, Marriage, Business and properties.

I use professional. I work with a Microsoft Partner here in Nigeria in line with my intended course of study.

The point is that, The VO figured that since I am on a loan, I will be tied in the US to repay the loan before coming back. That means I haven’t provided sufficient reason to come back after school.

If I have full funding, I can prove to the VO that I don’t have anything to do in the US once I am done with my studies then come back to my company to pick a managerial role based on my new degree.

I hope this helps.

The standard is that you must apply for EA
Only when you are 60 days to you resumption. And I think you have a chance to apply only twice. What I am not sure of is if the twice is tied to your name on the cgi portal.

You might need to ask further on what makes up home ties. They are not mutually exclusive and the VO's decision is at his/her discretion based on an appraisal of your circumstances. The VO will not just pick only one factor (Professional, Marriage, Business or properties) to determine the strength of your home ties.

Reappraise your approach.

Best of luck.

Hello chief,

Thanks for reaching out.

Well, I am not even in a hurry at the moment. Even if na spring, I will go for it.

Concerning the home ties of a thing, the plan is to use employment. That’s like the only hold I can use.

Usually, the US embassy’s explanation for denial is usually home ties even tho it’s something else.

I just feel that I will stand a better chance if I get a full funding. It’s only on that basis that I am applying again.

I understand you bro. Cos the loan is ginormous when converted to Naira. VO will conclude that you'll most likely stay back in America so that you can repay the loan faster.

So:

1. You'll need very strong home ties to show that you'll come back to Nigeria and that the loan will be paid back while working in Nigeria

OR

2. Get a fully funded offer

Since you’ll be resuming this Fall, I think it’s a bit early to even apply for EA as it’s still well over 60 days before Fall resumption. Nevertheless, what’s done is done.

1. No harm in doing both in my opinion.

2. Just once per MRV fee payment.

1. Can a waec result with 6As and 3 Bs with a combined SAT result of 1200 get me a full ride. Also what do they mean exactly by family ties
2.. Must I send my waec result to an evaluation organization like wes. Can the University not evaluate it themselves?
3. How do I pay for sevis fee and MRV.
4. How to dress to the visa interview(casual, formal.)

Hi there! Congrats on your admission and funding.

To my knowledge, an academic session in USA is usually 9 months: from August to May (4.5 months for Fall and Spring semester each), while the Summer break (between June to early August) is 3 months.

Schools aren't usually in session during Summer, because technically summer is a break period, hence that 3 months is not included in the I-20.
That's why your I-20 shows 9 months.

For the second question, you can select a visa date now then towards June 22nd you can try requesting for an EA. That's my opinion/advice.

I hope it helps.

If you don't mind me asking please, what school and course did you get the GTA funding for?
