I have seen a guy here that got his VISA through MPOWER loan. I guess he was lucky tho he combined substantial partial scholarship plus the loan to cover the remaining.

I have been denied twice using the loan plus family funds.

I wouldn’t advise anyone to use Loan sincerely. Especially from this part of the world, It’s not a sure way.

Take a break, do your research, and put in a great deal of effort in your subsequent applications (assuming you're not quitting) and ensure you secure a full funding/GTA/GRA or fellowship. With a full ride, every other factor becomes insignificant, not even your age, travel history or previous rejections.

However, in all of these, you have to be gainfully employed or be engaged in something meaningful that resonates well around your academic pursuits.

The importance of a zero deficit I-20 for your visa and life here can not be overstated. You'll love yourself for it.

PS: The home ties the VO mentioned is just a cliche, it is actually the summary of that rejection paper, do not fall for it.

Guys, I need help. I have been offered admission for Fall 2022 in the US and my I-20 has been sent to me. I have two different questions I'd like to ask. The first one is: I was awarded a GTA funding for the first 12months but my I-20 is showing funding for 9months while I was awarded a GTA funding for 12months. Is this a mistake from my school and will the 9months of funding be enough for documentation at the US embassy for an interview?

My second question is. I have completed my DS-160 application form and have paid all necessary fees but while booking an appointment today, 7th April 2022, I am seeing appointments dates that are well over my program start date which is 22nd August 2022. I am told that I need to request an expedited appointment. But on the instructions on the portal, u can't book an expedited appointment until u are within 60days to your school start date. For me, I will be within that 60days around the 22nd of June, 2022. What do you suggest I do guys? Should I go ahead and request for the expedited appointment or I should wait till that June while using the opportunity to check if any closer dates have been released. Pls, I need your suggestions and advice. Thank you.

Congrats on your GTA! No worries about the 9months on your I-20, it doesn't affect your chances, if you have no deficit. Do you? The funds should cover your expenses for your first year which is below 12months.

About appointment dates, really can't say, seems the modus Operandi has changed.

Hi, am new here.
I applied for a student visa sometime last year and the interview was December, the consular denied the visa stating not eligible so I decided to contact my school and told them to differ my admission till next season which was August and they did. I further asked for a letter from me school properly explaining what the course was all about so i can be presented at the embassy and I got that also.
Here is my major challenge, as at January I got a date sep 22 and my school resumes August, now I don’t know what to do, I have messaged the embassy and it was stated that the visa fee I made to book that last date can be used only once.
I have paid for another visa fee? Do I need to feel the DS 160 form again? Am really confused.

Hi there! Congrats on your admission and funding.

To my knowledge, an academic session in USA is usually 9 months: from August to May (4.5 months for Fall and Spring semester each), while the Summer break (between June to early August) is 3 months.

Schools aren't usually in session during Summer, because technically summer is a break period, hence that 3 months is not included in the I-20.
That's why your I-20 shows 9 months.

For the second question, you can select a visa date now then towards June 22nd you can try requesting for an EA. That's my opinion/advice.

I hope it helps.
If you don't mind me asking please, what school and course did you get the GTA funding for?

My course is Biological Sciences andy school is Goergia Institute of Technology

I don't have any deficits at all. The funding is enough. I was just concerned over the 9months on my I-20 while my official funding letter stated 12months GTA.

Hello, Good evening everyone, this is a bit urgent please.

I've read a lot of rejections at the visa interview due to being unemployed and not having enough reason to come back to Nigeria. Actually my dad has a family business which he has been running for years. I do work there sometimes. We actually work with a lot of big companies in lagos. I'm thinking if filling out that I'm employed in my family's company in my DS form and also presenting my Company's ID card at the interview just in case.. this will proof that I'm employed and I have enough reason to come home and manage the family business along with my dad.

Is this a good idea ?

Good day I would like to ask some questions:

1. Can a waec result with 6As and 3 Bs with a combined SAT result of 1200 get me a full ride. Also what do they mean exactly by family ties
2.. Must I send my waec result to an evaluation organization like wes. Can the University not evaluate it themselves?
3. How do I pay for sevis fee and MRV.
4. How to dress to the visa interview(casual, formal.)

1. If you apply to the right school that will provide full ride for your result
2. Yes you need to evacuate because they don't take WAEC in the US so they need to know what and what you did
3. SEVIS can be paid by someone in the US and MRV information is on the Visa page.
4. Dress comfortably causal or formal. Be comfortable

Good afternoon everyone.
i need some urgent advise concerning my proof of funds. my school states that they do not accept a 'business account' for proof of funds. but it is the law firm where i work that is sponsoring my tuition. (I was provided with the firm's statement to upload)

I want to write to the school's center for international education, explaining this to them.

I will be happy to read any advise you can give me on how to go about this.

Thank you.

Yes, you can't use a business account to fund your program. Same as interview too. So look at it this way, the account fund is what the owner use to pay workers and grow the business, why should that also be used to fund your program that will only decrease whatever amount it's in it without adding back. So let's the business owner use his personal account

1) Can i update my I-20 immediately after i get VISA even before getting on the plane to the USA so i can use it for my accommodation and fee.

2) When is it advisable to use the Mpower loan as i already have my final approval letter.

bulk of funds coming from a sponsor (relative) who resides in the US and an opportunity to get GTA if visa is granted.

Those who have gone through this route successfully, planning to or any other person. Your advice will really go a long way. Thanks

Hey big bro, I appreciate your kindness here...

I have some quick questions..

Is it compulsory to have these exams TOEFL and GRE before one can get admitted to a US university or can there be waiver for it from some universities?

I am going for master in civil Engineering

Thank you.

Most schools have exempt list of countries expected to submit TOEFL. Nigeria, and some other countries falls into that list. In conclusion, TOEFL is not really compulsory.

On the other hand, GRE seems compulsory in some schools. From my observation so far, Msc applicant don't need it if the school specifically waived it. Others that are lenient on the exam, might need it to distinguish your application when making decisions. If you can afford it, I would encourage you to write the exam. It may be the game changer between securing some form of scholarship or full funding from the said school (though currently, nothing is guaranteed self).

So far, from Fall 2023/2024, most schools might revert back to that exam requirement. (Disruption of examination schedules by COVID-19 was the major reason that majority of schools waived that off in the first place.)

Hello gurus,

Pls assist me, it's possible this question has been asked and answered, pls pardon if it has Biko.

With the current Incessant ASUU strike, my son gained admission last year to UNN Chemical engineering, his Waec is very much good.
I want him to look for University he can apply to for scholarship either fully funded or half or none.

I made an enquiry to the proprietor of the lesson he was attending before he gained admission if they have any particular plan in place for such undergraduate that are at home as a result of the Strike, he said no. But
he suggested foreign Exams like SAT.
To study in the US or Canada.
Please advise me on which of these listed he should write ( (SAT is 65k, IELTS is 80k , TOEFL is 120k)

Thanking you very much
I'll advise you do not bother paying for those exams. There are many schools that gives admission in the USA without one writing those exams (although your chances of getting admitted with fundings will be high writing this exams).

Apply to schools in Missouri. I recommend Missouri S&T and Columbia college Missouri. Application fee waived and decision is fast. He can still make it for fall.

Was it the same amount on your offer letter for 12 months that was quoted on your i20 for 9 months ?

Also expedited appointments is 60 days to resumption date . So it’s just to wait and be checking the portal occasionally.

Please I've gotten MBA admission in USA and got some fellowship from the school. Because the money wasn't enough, I applied to Mpower finance and they approved some amount for me.

My little answer to the best of my knowledge.

1. In some schools, it would get you a full ride (Tuition waiver with stipends) while in others half ride (Tuition waiver only). Others might offer percentage scholarship that would not even cover your tuition.

My little advise is to contact the different universities you have interest in. Check for the undergraduate academic contact person or coordinator, and email him (her) tabling your SAT score with WAEC result. Hopefully, he will be in better position to advice you. Read between lines from their replies, and pick up the schools which offers the best possibility of securing one. Spread your options

2. Some universities have in-house evaluation while others don't have, but depends solely on external evaluation companies under NACES.

3. First thing first. Secure admission and full funding. That two stages are nothing. Few Nairalanders can help you make the payment (SIVES) while you transfer the naira equivalent to them.

4. Your choice. Generally, smart casual, professional or normal is okay. Try and make sure that the colours rhyme. Don't be like some that wear flip-on (slippers), or rioting colour trousers (multi-colour, ripped apart jeans) or simple body fitted polo ( as if they are going on most handsome men audition, or to seduce all the females working in the embassy) grin cheesy

I hope, I have been able to clear all your doubts regarding to your various questions.

NB: I'm not aiming for undergraduate program o cheesy
Thank you so much, so to find do out if my results are able to get me a full ride I have to contact the recruiter/coordinator in charge?

Good morning Mr Zino,
Ok thanks a lot.
We have decided to go for the SAT.
I appreciate your contribution so much.
Do have a great day ahead cheers

Nozino:

Hello. Good afternoon ma.

If he ace the SAT he could get into an integrated Masters in the US. The program is typically 5years and they aren’t so common.

My initially post was referring to the UK if cost isn’t a factor. He can easily get into an integrated Masters program in the UK and they are 4 years and easier to get into.

It’s also possible to get into a Master’s degree program with Waec ( I have a cousin doing this in the UK and he is going to graduate with B.eng and M.Eng at 21). One can get into a PhD program too with just Bsc.
