It's been almost two decade since my graduation as an engineer. l have acquired a master's degree and certification. l have worked as an engineer, operations manager & sales manager.

l have not acheived the financial buoyancy l desired. l still struggle to pay my bills. l beleive l would have fared better as a lawyer or an accountant.
What's your opinion on this?

Lol trust me you would have been worst as a lawyer. Majority of lawyers don't even earn up to 30k a month. It's the worst course to study presently. I regret mine though. I wish I had studied computer science.

If you aren't going to school to study any of the courses listed below, pls don't bother going at all:

•Medicine
•Nursing
•Pharmacy
•Computer Science
•Radiography
•Some engineering courses

If it's not any of the above, abeg sit down for house, use that money you would have used to pay school fees and get a Laptop... start learning to code,in 8 months time, you'll be glad you did so.

What I came to realize about life is this; our parents know what they've seen when they urge and insist we study "professional" courses in school, but we young folks disregard their point of view as "ancient"... I for example was studying Botany in the university, reasoned what I'll do with this thing in the long run... omorr I saw I was just wasting my time oh,took jamb in my third year, applied for pharmacy in a federal university, got the admission... I'm really glad I made that decision.

Living in Nigeria is hard... don't make it harder for yourselves by studying Nonsense

Yes ooooo! I regretted it full time. Though I'm not the one that choose the course, the school dash me the course after 3yrs of writing Jamb. But I'm happy today cos God is on my side. I don't even know where the certificate is sef grin

For the jambites in the building, please avoid any course they tell you that you can work in any organization. All na wash and brain washing.

Don't even go near lawyer.

A relative of mine knows many lawyers. Most of them are poorly paid.

The courses worth studying in Nigeria are ;

Medicine and Surgery
Elect/Elect Engineering
Mech Engr
Computer Science
Civil Engineering
Pharmacy
Nursing

And maybe Law

In short ; Professional courses and courses that are practicable in an average society.

Studying a non professional course and a non - STEM based course is almost a sure way to poverty if your parents are not well connected. Imagine a guy with struggling parents studying Zoology, Botany, Linguistics, Classics, History, Philosophy etc. Nah big suffer ooh.

No, never

The only regret that I had was that I didn't get to study my childhood course which was pharmacy because I love being in the lab, wearing white and mixing chemicals

My teachers in primary school always kept asking my mum if I studied pharmacy in the uni because they all knew that was my dream course

I did computer science and I can't substitute it for any other course but still have that love for pharmacy

Maybe I'll marry a lady that studied pharmacy when I meet one that I'll be compatible with

Studying forestry, shout out to all foresters out there. Purifying the ecosystem. Life is tree and tree is life. Without trees there is no life.

Only NDA and polac guarantees job in Nigeria, it's just like 20 per state they select, out of like 500, the rest won't get anything unless if they will go for their third choice a polytechnic or private university.

You studied an engineering course that's why you think things will be better if you had studied law or accounting, some doctors and lawyers wish they studied engineering, even now that I'm studying forestry, I wish I am studying engineering. LOL. Engineering that we were applied for like twice till we settled for one, that is what someone is regretting.

Not necessarily so for me. Here's what I mean looking at the situation from your angle.
I believe that financial buoyancy is a function of many things. Your course of study, extra qualifications, experience and perhaps your employment opportunities are all inclusive but I'm learning that 'financial literacy' in itself is even more important.
You may earn say 500k monthly and have endless debts and liabilities, while on the flip side you may earn 75k monthly and have a relatively healthy savings..
My view.

No regrets, even if its not so useful for me, or not the right course for me, I have evolved, by expanding my consciousness, using it as a means for evolution, i found my true course, probably, i did not know what was best for me at that time but i know now, and its more than i could have imagined.

Biochem, one of the hard course in our University system but outside the university wall it total rubbish course. Don't waste your time reading that rubbish course, Nigeria have no use for that course. I started coding after realizing that no way forward with that course even after reading hard and graduating with a good result

It all depends on what you want to be and why. In my case, I knew what I wanted and achieved it although the journey was a bit longer than it should be.
