Perfect.... I studied Marine Engineering and even though I have worked for less than 3 months onboard, I have earned my one year salary working as a teacher in a good school.
It a good course but where are the ships?

If you aren't going to school to study any of the courses listed below, pls don't bother going at all:

•Medicine
•Nursing
•Pharmacy
•Computer Science
•Radiography
•Some engineering courses

If it's not any of the above, abeg sit down for house, use that money you would have used to pay school fees and get a Laptop... start learning to code,in 8 months time, you'll be glad you did so.

What I came to realize about life is this; our parents know what they've seen when they urge and insist we study "professional" courses in school, but we young folks disregard their point of view as "ancient"... I for example was studying Botany in the university, reasoned what I'll do with this thing in the long run... omorr I saw I was just wasting my time oh,took jamb in my third year, applied for pharmacy in a federal university, got the admission... I'm really glad I made that decision.

Living in Nigeria is hard... don't make it harder for yourselves by studying Nonsense

Good evening sir please sir I need your mentorship, I'm a civil engineering graduate 2.1 (07065301857)
OvaSabi1:
My advice to everyone:

Even if na Yoruba Education dem give you, try to graduate with a 2:1. Why? Big 4 accounting firms and multinational companies would employ you with any degree in as much as its a 2:1.
Also, with a good grade, you have the opportunity of getting foreign scholarships and your own don better if na STEM. Your own don better pass everybody own if you were able to publish your final year project.

I am talking as a university lecturer who schooled outside Nigeria. The moment I see talent that is wasting, I would grab it like hawk wey dey thief chicken and mentor the person. I have seen a first class finance grad stay jobless for 6 years. Write ICAN, e nor gree. Open LinkedIn, mba no. Oya na wetin you wan do with your life? “I want to be a lecturer”. This lecturer work wey me sef wan try to escape? Your village people no try.

Again, I am seeing many of my ex students approaching me to write papers and put their names on it as co author so they can use it to gain scholarships. Same students that were extremely disrespectful and refused to be serious with their project when they were students. Me, I should use my money to do research and I will now spend 150k to publish and I should add your name? Can you do analysis? No. Do you have a laptop? No. Will you pay for the secondary data? No. You try.

In a nutshell, I am begging you all in the name of God to be serious with your project.

at first I hated it but I'm growing love for it...

I will find friends who will help me in understanding the course

Just give your best in all you do in life. There's a reward for it. If you have laptop, you can also acquire some digital skills that you can later monitize. If you believe in God, commit your path unto Him always in prayer and He will direct your math.

Says who? Are you leaving inside the bush? Any Pharmacist that earn that amount now, need his brain examine, profession where them dey beg guys with #150k and guys still they leave the country in drove, you know nothing.

Thank you sooooo much!!!!

May God almighty bless you for me...... Amen!!
You made my day day bro. Much love.

You know.... when I applied for Geology during my jamb exam. Friends were discouraging me that it's not a lucrative course.... that I should not waste my time on it......but that's actually my dream.
I love anything Geo so much. So with the support of my mom and my school mentor.
I applied for it.

Wrote my jamb.....scored 280, aggregated to 306. And the major problem of discouragement set in.
That I should change my course, that am trying to waste my brain, that I am too adamant.

But I did always think...... what am I gonna be doing being a doctor??, being a pharmacist?, Being a radiographer....... Geez. I hate them all.

But I simply like being my Geoscientist smiley.

So I went for my heart.

I pray the tide favours me and us all
Oshey , you carry your hand pick geology

So, you are a Pharmacist? Which state are you practicing, if you are seriously earning less than 120k and you are post NYSC, you are really suffering.

Come to Osun state, even if your village people after you, you won't get a job less than #150k with accomodation.

[s][/s]Combination of hard drugs in neighborhood chemist shop making you go crazy.

How many of such pharmacy graduates earning well, compare to profession you can set up on ur own and leave averagely.

Go out and ask how much they do medical test, these are the tests that must come on daily basis

Pharmacy is one on big course with nothing to show after graduation, do urself justice, go and do statistics of pharmacist graduates and ask them how many get good job after graduation?

Do gragra in sch as if it's by big name course.

Wen your brain is settled, you should also ask urself, how many pharmacy companies thriving in Nigeria, how many graduate of pharmacy can start his own company?[s][/s]

You are capping nonsense.

MLS to Pharmacy, do you know it is far easier to open a standard pharmacy than a standard laboratory?

Do you know it is easier to get employed as a Pharmacist than a scientist.

Just go to any medical job interviews and compare the number of Pharmacists that will attend to MLS.

I am currently working in a pharmacy in Osun state, just Osun state o, our worst profit in a month is #2.5M, profit o, not sales, our sales is around #7M

You don't know what you are saying

It's not about that actually.

150k is good money but not good enough to achieve so much, its enough to cover monthly expenses if you are prudent but to do other investments na problem, you go still go take loan, mind you I don't even earn above that for now before you call me a millionaire.

The courses worth studying in Nigeria are ;

Medicine and Surgery
Elect/Elect Engineering
Mech Engr
Computer Science
Civil Engineering
Pharmacy
Nursing

And maybe Law

In short ; Professional courses and courses that are practicable in an average society.

Studying a non professional course and a non - STEM based course is almost a sure way to poverty if your parents are not well connected. Imagine a guy with struggling parents studying Zoology, Botany, Linguistics, Classics, History, Philosophy etc. Nah big suffer ooh.
no vex o.. commot that civil engineering first, then mechanical.. thank you.. na wash.. you study civil engrng them they ask you for autocad, orion civil3d, protastructure, ms word, excel, with 4years experience and professional cerificate just to be suppervisor. se oye be?

Jonathan studied zoology, and his parents were not rich. Everything is Destined
I agree with you that everything is destiny. But you can't compare yourself with Jonathan. Even his daughter married a medical doctor not a zoologist.

1. Employment rate is lower now than then. In those days, even with ordinary O'level, you are already employed by the government.

2. Nobody needs a zoologist now aside some govt universities and they can't employ up to 0.1% of their yearly products.

Make research on employment rate for 100 graduates of science courses like zoology, forestry, botany, biochemistry and microbiology. You will notice that 99 of them are either under-employed in a private nursery and primary school, unemployed or learning handiwork after youth service.

Ignore my advice if your parents are rich.

If you follow Nigeria school system very well, you will no that 80% of biochemistry student are those that couldn't make it to medicine and surgery that ended up in biochemistry. It was never my choice of course and I did not have anybody to guard me through when applying for university, though the internet was never rampant like now. So I ended up chosen the wrong course. That is why I am shouting it here for the younger generation never to make the mistake I made

Lol
Bro is the course really that bad.? I have been seeing people insulting this course. grin grin I have seen some graduates of biochemistry in the military, some working in flour mill, pharmaceutical company, medical lab, beverages company nd even to some extent in the hospital. I have a street friend that always hype this course just because that’s what his elder bro studied and he has worked with 3 top pharmaceutical firm like norvatis and two others wic I can’t remember as medical sale rep. He told me his bro was given official car and he has been able to build houses as well as living well. Reasonable graduates has bagged fully funded scholarship with this discipline. The rate of unemployment is just too high in this country that’s why some courses just look so useless nd irrelevant. This biochem is what I have been seeing people hype abroad. U really crack me up with your comment wic made me rush to quote u and mind u I am even seeing some commenters saying they know some professional graduates still jobless. In this country it’s just what it is. Truly with no backings, one will suffer with studying irrelevant courses.

Had I not changed my course from Agronomy to Computer Science I'd have regretted. Thank God for the decision I made. God did not allow Lautech to change my destiny - I picked computer science they gave me Agronomy, a name I had not hear about until when I was offered a provisional admission into dept of Agronomy...agro wetin? Mo ya Japa.... Funny enough some people were encouraging me to stay at Agronomy saying that's what God wants for you and bla bla bla...
I have heard about so many useless agric-related courses in lautech where they use to put those who applied for medical courses. Courses that are subtopics in junior high school agric science subject. Lautech is wicked.
