Hello Micpopson,

We suggest you write the CIS not ICAN. The former is relevant to IB than the latter. If you have the resources (finance, time and knowledge), you can forgo both and write the CFA. Furthermore, these articles will be of assistance to you:

Investment banking has different aspects(Corporate Finance, Stockbroking, Wealth/asset mgt, Trade/project finance etc), and some of these institutions have different aspects as their stronghold. For example, when I was in one of these institutions(Vetiva, to be precise), we were very strong in Corporate Finance and in fact there was hardly any big merger and acquisition and capital raising exercise we didn't partake in, whether as issuing house or financial adviser. Our hands were full then, and we even had to be rejecting some offers we considered too small. This was during the banking/insurance consolidation period. However, we were not very strong in stockbroking and asset management. When it comes to asset management, IBTC easily had it then.

Overall then, IBTC were rated first, BGL second and Vetiva third.

I'm no longer in this system and I have lost touch of happenings in the system. So I can't comment on their current standing now.

Good morning oga Jarus, where do you think would be a better place to work as a graduate trainee between Cardinalstone and Coronation Merchant Bank? In terms of renumeration and staff welfare.

Both are OK, but I think Coronation Merchant Bank has slight edge.

Hi. Please what aspect of investment banking makes one a great stock investor? Is it IB or equity research?
Also which of the two exposes one to various companies (allows you to be more diversified as you work on many different projects at once) so he becomes an expert that can easily switch to consulting (in big 4) later in life?
Finally, between corporate finance and other divisions, which is likely to be marketable in the future or become extinct?
Thank you

Hello Everyone.

My name is Eyitayo.

I am First Class Graduate of Economics. Also an ICAN student member (professional level) and award winner (Business and Finance), looking for an entry-level Investment Banking Analyst position, particularly in the lines of Financial Advisory, Fixed Income, Research, Structured and Project Finance.

I currently work at NASD OTC Securities Exchange as a Capital Market Analyst where I execute trades, prepare monthly reports, prepare daily market snapshots and newsletters.

I have great analytical skills and I am competent in the use of Microsoft Office suite (Ms. Word, Ms. Excel, Ms. PowerPoint and Ms. Outlook). I have also have preliminary knowledge of Financial Modeling and Business Valuations.

I have been going through this thread and I have seen it is full of vast and knowledgeable professionals, who are in positions to give me a chance by lifting me up and connecting me to the right source. All I ask for is a chance. I promise you won't regret it. Thank you so much.

I look forward to your DM. THANK YOU.

My advice to you would be to stay where you are and finish your ICAN exams which you should be able to clear by the end of 2021.

When you change jobs and you really want to move up the ladder fast then you should not be carrying extra baggage such as always wanting to go on exam leave

To live a Good life especially in this current economic climate, one source of income isn’t going to cut it.
It is important now more than ever to increase your streams of income. One way to achieve this is through income investment. Many of us are engaged or have been engaged in one type of income investment or another while some of us have not. Either way you can share your journey and insight with me while learning one or two things about the opportunities in income investing by taking out a few minutes to fill this survey.
Thank you in advance for your time and good luck with your finances.

I recently stumbled upon this thread and it has been insightful. Between an offer from Zenith Bank and Coronation Merchant Bank, which should I go for?

Depends on the role

Zenith is basically cash and teller (contract for two years) after which conversion happens.

Coronation on the other hand doesn't have a clear role for now. Just graduate trainee in the merchant bank arm. Training starts soon
