Hi,

Your funds available = School fees paid + balance of school fees (if any) if with you or sponsor in account + Cost of living and miscellaneous available for your trip.

Mean funds available is total funds.
MirahO:
For someone that did GIC of 10,000.00  CAD what  amount should the person fill in the section for "funds available for stay in Canada(in Canadian dollars)"?

Hello gurus,

I am asking this question on behalf of my niece. She studied International Economics and Trade at the Shanghai University of Political Science and Law with a GPA of 3.21. She applied to study Political Science at UVic but was refused. She is thinking of applying for other courses but is confused. What courses will gurus in the house recommend? Please we need help here.
@Anon @Lekkiboboe @makano @frankrobbn

Hi

First of all

Her CGPA3.21, is it of 4.00 or 5.00 grading scale?

What is her Last two years GPAs in the University?

Was she able to secure a Supervisor in the Political Science faculty of UVIc before applying for the Masters program in that school?

The transcript that she used to apply was it in English or Chinese?

Someone should please assist with a response please... I have got a grade point of 4.52 Com sc. Should I sit this one out? The program fee is about 19k plus intl diff of 7k. There are opportunities for in program scholarship as well but it is not guaranteed.
Chinny90:
Dear Osemigho. Dalhousie offered me admission but I am expected to pay program fees for the first one year and a reduced continuing fees for subsequent years. As someone who is on ground, do you consider the offer from Dal a fair deal or should I just reapply to other schools with hope of getting scholarship.

Someone on this platform got admission for a master's with a strong second class lower.
I think you need to check the requirements of the school you intend to apply to

olujok3:
Please sir, can I get a master's program with CGPA 3.33/5.0?

First of all, no scholarship is easy, you have to merit it before you can be given. But scholarship and student loan can be used for means of proof of funds.

Permanent residency is obtainable after a master's program even with scholarship. But be aware that some scholarships come with conditions that applicants must return to their country of origin after study. If that is the condition, PR and PGWP can't be given.

The bolded is not 100% correct. I thought that way before 2018 and missed Mastercard scholarship. I have a friend that applied anyways. Funny enough, it was Mastercard that organize PR and work permit session for them towards the end of their program. The guy is a PR now. My advise, except it is IRCC scholarship that says so or you have another scholarship without that requirement, apply and wait till the end.

Thank you so what is the rate I should be calculating with ?

I don’t know. Exchange rate changes you know. Dollar is slightly higher than cad. Just check current rate and do the math.

Yeah, don’t exchange at the airport. The rates are not good. You can try https://www.interchangefinancial.com/ if you are in Toronto. Walk in to any of their offices for swift exchange.

FYI, I have no affiliation with them.

Oh thank you.

VFS Lagos appear to be notorious for not providing update. Track your return waybill to see if they have sent it back.

People say Lagos is slow and one should expect them to return between 5-10 working days.

Any tuition discount is a good deal and a bird in hand is better than thousands in the bush. Use what you have to apply for visa. You can seek better admission while waiting for ircc response.

Hello,

My advise might not really sound cool, but I'll say it. Doing a PhD without funding is Slavery... Yes, it's Slavery. Don't even think of it, especially in developed countries. PhD is purely research, and a lot of cost is embedded in it that's totally different from your tuition. How will someone spend so much, continuously for 4 years, and with wife and 3 kids. Sincerely, it's not advisable at all. Except you have twice of the total cost for four year + research and you don't really mind spending it

No 2. For a married person with 3 kids to use a third party sponsor is almost a straight denial. Because I still don't know what explanation can be given that the VO will not think "applicant is not financially capable"

My sincere advice - take your time to get a fully funded scholarship for your PhD.

I would like to reemphaise your comment that PhD without scholarship is slavery. PhD job opportunities in Canada are mostly low. It is not worth paying your money for it. Your time and effort sacrifice to complete is enough.

You should have sent it to VFS Abuja since the resumption time is very close. Sending it to VFS Lagos could take anything between 10 to 15 working days to get it back.

Thanks for this candid advice, I want to use it to pull my family because of the length of years that it requires. I will likely change to a master programme when we are successful. What is your take about it.

Notorious is an understatement sef. The first week of VFS Lagos receiving the Passport can be almost complete silence. The action starts in the second week when they send it to VFS Abuja. Between VFS Abuja and IRCC, it's about two working days to and from movement for the Passport and then back to Lagos. Then another 3 to 4 days silence.

A 53 year old man got his study visa on this thread. I got mine at 41. One guy got his visa at age 40 with a diploma program on the last thread. Don't listen to that person. Apply and hope for the best.

Thanks as always Leki. Always coming to our rescue.
1. Her cgpa is out of 4.
2. Her last two years gpa was 2.6/4.0.
3. She did not get a supervisor first. She just applied.
4. She sent both a chinese and english transcript to the school.

She is currently confused on what course to take considering her educational background and future job opportunities in maple land.
