These days they will just adjust your taxcode, however people do not spend time viewing thier P60s

the op could be correct too if for 6 months HRMC did not tax him, the full story is not known and the thing about tax code is correct. If HMRC makes a mistake on your taxes one year they will correct it and take it out the next.

You my friend understands how the tax works, the problem with the newbies is the like to jump into conclusion without properly analysing the whole fact. Another fact is this two people might work in same place earn same 24k per year but mr A might take home more than Mr B cos of tax codes. Back in the early and late 200os you get a cheque back cos you have been overtaxed cos your tax code was based on BR 20% but these days HMRC have upgraded instead of returning your overtaxed money the simply adjust your tax code to reflect the money they owe you.

I won't dispute you further. But just so you know, my wife received a cheque yesterday refunding her 440 because she was overtaxed in the last tax cycle.

£6K for one year bross? or was it accumulative? what is his tax code when he is owing that amount grin grin grin
anyway nothing surprises me in this Uk anymore since a computer accused post office runners that they stole money and someone killed themselves, I gave up

The system somehow pushes you to build credit and using credit card is one of the ways to do that. When I just came and was looking for accomodation, landlords/agents were talking about credit score, it sounded strange but brought the idea of credit to my consciousness.

Men and brethren.
I dey like watch how these arguments dey develop for this Nairaland, this is why I no fit leave Nigerians alone despite being a Nigerianophobe. grin

Many, many arguments ago, a poster innocently asked if na true say people dey pay tax from their first salary as her first salary was taxed and she bin think say e go reach six months before she go pay tax (Oga Charge and Bail, abi Hire and Fire HR dey call am managing your expectations as a new UK immigrant, but we digress).

A nice man informed her say lai lai, HMRC don sharpen knife wait for all man from the first salary. She said thank you and left.

Argument deviated through several zigzags, about people wey feel say HMRC don forget them as they no pay tax from the start, and eventually someone pointed out that even if HMRC doesn't take its pound of flesh from your first salary, you are liable for tax from your very first salary once you earn above the threshold.

Various people come gree say that does indeed represent the situation.

Case suppose don close for there.

We still dey here dey go back and forth, dey take HMRC name dey play.
Abeg, make we leave this matter, una no get cost of living matters to discuss? Who don notice say even Aldi don add money, for instance?

And the Post Office CEO woman na reverend, o.
PO was aware all along that there were problems with the system, since so many people were all of a sudden reporting shortfalls, but they suppressed that and still prosecuted innocent people, drove them to poverty and destitution. That takes a level of cruelty that is really shocking.

Please how were you able to see this?
DeeOneBangin:

Everybody knows HMRC will collect every dime owed to the last penny, nobody is disputing that. But the fact remains that I didn’t get taxed till about 5-6 months (only NI deduction was reflected on payslip, income tax was always 0.00) and I know a couple of newly arrived that this has happened to. How that happened, I don’t know.

And instead of someone just completely knocking off erico2k2 which I feel he is correct because it kinda applied to me.

And las las I got a letter saying i owed £138

Passed my theory test today on the first attempt. Practised with this Theory 4 in 1 app below, someone recommended it on this forum sometime back.

I used the Free Pass Guarantee option and practised the 763 theory questions and 85 hazard test videos all in 3 weeks. I highly recommend the app to anyone preparing to take their theory test.

Meanwhile, I appreciate any guide to studying for the practical driving test

There's a soothing effect that IRB 35 and P60 bring sooner or ltr: whether delayed, instant, onspot, aggregated, err, inadvertent...
Just do your own (360) self assessment and be (Boys Scout) be prepared.
Inbtw, I had a +ve and the aftermath HMRC cheque was therapeutic! in that first year.

It doesn't make any difference if you have been paying for the past 22 years. The question is if you have paid over 45k in a single year?
