My people, please help chook mouth for this matter. The current place we live in is not suitable for kids. Although the landlord came to fix some of the things we complained about, he only comes when it's almost time for the next rent. Why not move out you may ask. Especially when we didn't sign a long contract. It's really tough getting a house to rent on the island as most house owners either do short-let (Airbnb mostly) or put the property up for sale. We have been applying for houses advertised online and have no luck securing one. We recently found out the reason through this potential landlord the reference provided by the previous house agent. The agency said we left the property dirty and they had to professionally clean it. Even though we cleaned the property ourselves and sent images as proof but they still charged us £200 for cleaning and repainting. I am so down and don't know what to do cos this place is quite expensive and not suitable at all. |

erico2k2: One also is more likely to be approved for a low limit beginers credit card with poor credit than a loan. Also, there are other reasons for taking a credit card apart from Credit Score. Like it's also been repeatedly advised, watch your spending, only spend what you can pay back in full. Watch your statement closing dates keenly. Start with free cards without monthly or annual fees. Follow these above, you will be fine. |

erico2k2:Yes, it was and they deducted the £200 charge from the deposit and have the balance sent to us. |
Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by erico2k2(m): 10:54pm On May 18, 2022 |
ProfJYK:I understand what you are saying but like I will repeat if there is an option between loans and credit card you should always take a loan. There is only one winner in taking a credit card, THE CREDIT CARD COY. Repayment is fixed in loans but that's not the case ion credit cards. One of the reasons new comers in the UK run to credit cards is this misconception that the money is almost free to spend 4gotting you got to pay all back at some point. However when one reaches a level of financial maturity in the Uk a credit card is a must as it offers more protection when doing or paying for goods or services but for newbies NOP |

erico2k2: I'm not even worried about the charges. I'm more concerned about the reference they provided for the prospective landlord. I forwarded the emails we exchanged with the old agency to the landlord and she mentioned the apartment was clean enough but would rather speak directly with the old landlord. |

CheesyTee:This is worrisome. So sorry that things are happening this way. While you sort this one out, I'll advise you do not use this agent/landlord as reference in the future. Look for any other references if possible. It's good that this prospective landlord revealed this to you rather than just ghosting you. Good luck. |

lightnlife: You can't. You can open Monzo and deposit £1,000. Better still, give it to someone you trust with a traditional Bank account to deposit and transfer to you. 1 Like |
