In my opinion, as a newcomer there are not many places you would wanna go with the kids in early months of your arrival except around your neighbourhood, I don't believe getting around with the kids should be an issue if you're coming in this spring/summer, the GTA has a good transit system and the wait times are not as bad as the winter months. You get to enjoy the scenery taking the bus/train and take good walks to know your neighbourhood. grin

On the otherhand, if you have more than 2 kids and they are still very young, it can be a bit of a stress moving around and as such I recommend you take up driving lessons with a driving instructor as soon as possible - that's if you have been driving in 9ja - and then take your g1 and g2 license exams (all of which should not take more than 3weeks if you are dedicated). You can start watching YouTube videos to prepare yourself https://www.youtube.com/c/Smartdrivetest . You can download a version of the Ministry of transport drivers handbook from here https://www.aapexdriving.com/pdfs/The-Official-Ministry-of-Transportation-MTO-Drivers-Handbook-2019.pdf . Good luck.

Again, do not drive immediately you land without getting lessons if you have never driven in a North American country (I don't know about other countries abroad). The driving here is very different - rules of the road and signs - and not these times were skaters, bikers and pedestrian full everywhere (post-lockdown), make you no go hit person and end your driving career before it even begins.

Enculer:

Thanks for the tip. Will getting around with kids and without a car not be an issue?

By nursery, I assume you mean daycare….daycare is not free. However school is free, and the age a child starts school depends on the province. In Ontario, a child starts school the September of the year they clock 4. So if your child will clock 4 this year, they are eligible for KG this September. Also note that schools close in the afternoon, and if you are not available to have to make provision for after school which is also paid for.

Are there any government benefits one can take advantage of towards daycare?

Hello everyone,
I need help with my drivers license issue.
I have been driving since 2016. I have two expired licenses. I applied to renew since January but the new card has not arrived yet.
Can I use an expired drivers license to show proof of driving experience in Calgary Alberta please?

My line of work needs a valid drivers license and I'm just realizing the importance now I've landed.

Go checkout the Saskatchewan government website for the answers.

Check reddit too and join Facebook groups of parents in Saskatchewan or something similar (and ask there too).

Hello, i want to relocate to Canada. I actually graduated last year, but would get my transcript as soon as ASUU calls off their strike. i'm planning on futhering my studies via Masters to Canada. After making my research in terms of cost of living and the rest i decided to consider Alberta. But i'm yet to see any school under this province that has a friendly tuition fee for Master's degree programme. Any help would be appreciated.
Now that we are in the month of May, when should i start applying before the deadline.

Hi everyone,

I extended my study permit and child's visiting visa. I also applied for a TRV counterfoil for myself and my baby, i got PPR to sent my passport to Ottawa for stamping, no update on for my baby only for me to realize Canada doesn't do TRV counterfoil for applicants on Visitors Record.

Please i want to ask how do i apply for TRV counterfoil for infant who has Visitors Record in Canada.

Thank you

you can roam your naija Sim but you will still need to get a Canadian Sim when you arrive cos you will need it for every documentation here.

Visiting visa has validity period. If the visiting visa has expired or about to expire, an applicant can apply for extension of stay; if approved a visitor record will be given to the applicant specifying how long it is valid for.

Now, if you need the counterfoil, you will need to apply for a new visitor visa.

I guess you are making some mistake ,firstly you trying to extend a visiting visa inside canada, but what you needed for ur child as a student is to enrol the child in a school education is free for children and the child will not be rejected then apply for a student permit for ur child because Family members of foreign students and temporary workers who need a study permit to attend primary or secondary school, do not need to show proof of financial support. According to ircc.

According to canadian law,Children under 18 are entitled to go to school in Ontario regardless of their status in Canada. This includes non-Canadians and non-Permanent Residents.

Parents and the students do not need to take any immigration documents with them to enroll in a school and the school cannot demand to see any. Parents should take some identification, proof of the child’s date of birth, and all of their child’s education related documents and records to the school that they will be attending (for example, transcripts or report cards; the school may want to test you in order to determine the student’s grade level).

Children of parents who arrive in Ontario after the school year has started (September) are entitled to start school right away. Parents should contact their school board and they must enroll the children into a school as soon as possible. You need to contact an accredited ircc immigration lawyer or ur school international departmemt so you get it rigth, many thing are possible during covid lockdown but we now in postcovid era ,your child cannot contiune to live in canada on a visiting visa .l wish you all the best

Anyone please
In Saskatchewan, kindergarten starts at age 5 and the kids attend on alternate days and alternate Fridays as well. It's free for those days.
However some schools allow their kindergartens to attend daily but from 9am to 11am.
You can get your 3 year old registered in a daycare program.
Licensed daycares are subsidized by the government which brings the daily rate to about $10 per day. It's pretty difficult to get into Licensed ones these days.
Unlicensed daycare will charge between $650-$900 in the province
