The U.S. updates fact sheet, again, says does not support Taiwan independence.

The U.S. State Department has updated its fact sheet on Taiwan again, to reinstate a line about not supporting formal independence for the Chinese-claimed, democratically-governed island.

Last month the State Department changed the wording on its website on Taiwan, removing wording both on not supporting Taiwan independence and on acknowledging Beijing's position that Taiwan is part of China, to anger in Beijing.

Washington said the update did not reflect a change in policy. That wording has now be changed again, to reinstate a line saying "we do not support Taiwan independence".

The change was first reported by Taiwan's official Central News Agency on Friday, and appears to have happened on May 28, the date at the top of the fact sheet.

The State Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

State Department Spokesman Ned Price had said in May that the United States does not support Taiwan independence and "we have repeatedly made this clear both in public and in private".

Taiwan is already a de facto independent state, though with only very limited international recognition. Washington has no formal ties with Taipei, but is its most important international backer and arms supplier.

Taiwan's official name remains the Republic of China, the name of the government that fled to the island in 1949 after losing a civil war with the Communist Party who set up the People's Republic of China with its capital in Beijing.

The Chinese government in 2005 passed a law giving Beijing the legal basis for military action if it judges Taiwan to have seceded or to be about to.

Taiwan's government says only the island's 23 million people have the right to decide their future, and while it wants peace will defend itself if attacked.

Supporting Taiwan independence will lead to war, both sides want the status quo to remain.

Nonetheless, there's immutable relations between US and Taiwan and it's getting stronger by the day.

The Biden administration just launched new trade pact with Taiwan yesterday

USA is showing the world it evil nature why not come out to say hey guys we are heading to a recession please do a go fund me for us.

Instead of looking for evil ways to sell weapons and to cause problems to people's precious life's.

The whole world will be glad to contribute for the poor USA government just like Europe did to feed their hungry babies with baby food.

Imagine if baby food ran out from north Korea or Russia ahh.

CNN will run it for years claiming it was bad governance that caused it.

Napoleon said of China "Let China sleep, for when she wakes she will shake the world."

China hasn't even reached its full potentials yet, and the USA has started losing its balance. The sooner they (the US) realizes that they're playing with fire with taiwan, the better for them. It's not too late to beg China for forgiveness. Starting with publicly admitting that they won't recognize Taiwan sovereignty is a good start, Because the recession that is currently looming would befall them within the blinking of an eye with just one sanction from the Chinese.

I hope taiwan learns from Ukraine.

Stop fighting stupid wars for America.

A country where a male is winning woman award of the year. (Wtf)

IT DONT MAKE SENSE.

USA economy took a hit after the covid now they are fueling wars every where, so they can make money off them.

The whole ukraine crisis is a win for them cause they made EU stop using russian oil, and also made EU buy their more expensive murican oil.

Numerous weapon deals with EU countries.

Now they want to start wahala with china.

Nawa oh.

Why is China trying to hold unto power? US not supporting is just a form of diplomacy. UN is a failure and a figure head.

Liars.

A day without conflict is a day wasted for the US. If you think Russia is dangerous, then wait and see what China will do. The US should gracefully accept that the world is a multipolar bloc, and stop stirring conflict everywhere to contain China/Russia.

This is not new.

Always been like that. Most countries do not support Taiwan's independence.

A lot of nairalanders only started following international politics after the invasion of Ukraine.

Were a war to erupt, the economic damage would be severe. Taiwan is simply too critical in the electronic supply chain. It's products are probably found in almost all electronic products. I shudder to phantom the consequences.

The IPhone for example is made by Foxconn, a Taiwanese company with over a million employees in China. One in every 10 Taiwanese adults lives on Mainland China.
