Why Does The North Always Dictates Who Becomes Nigeria President by coputa(m): 9:29am On Jun 05, 2022 |
MKO Abiola won the presidential election against a northerner but the election was annuled by Abrahim Babangida(a northerner) Olusegun Obasanjo came out of prison to become president, with the scheming of the north, ostenstably to compensate the south west for Abiolas.when OBJ was released from prison, the first person he visited was Babangida, what did they discuss, your quess is as good as mine.Obasanjo handed power to Shehu Musa Yar'adua(a northerner)who did not complete his tenure(as death took him away)his vice,Goodluck Jonathan, step in his shoes and took over as president,After completing his tenure,he could not break the jar,he was fustrated and pushed out of office by Buhari. Now Buhari has almost complete his statutory eight years, they've started their usual scheming to instal another northerner or their stooge as president, why is it so,why are the other region alluding to this political scheming. |

They have two things working for them........ 1. MILITARY:- They are in control of the military, even para military. You cannot blow grammar for an ab0ki facing you with gun. 2. UNITY:- Northerners are more united than Southerners, they are very loyal to their leaders unlike the Southerners that are disrespectful and capable of betraying you any minute. |

They are united and unity is strength. The 2 big groups in the south, Igbo and Yoruba are not united , due to this the SS looks after its own interests. Until we learn unity and FAIRNESS in the south, the North will continue to call the shots 1 Like |

We are more united than any other region, we don’t mind whether it’s APC or pdp provided it’s a northerner, you might be surprised buhari will want Atiku to succeed him in his innermost heart , that’s how we roll. 1 Like |

DOTian:How many SE governors supported Peter Obi in PDP? How many southern States did Wike Win? Please face FACTS, the south is completely divided. We are selfish and do not put the interest of the region before personal interest. Look at Orji Kalu playing slave to Lawan, when even the northern ACP governors have said it should go to the south. 2 Likes |

Fairandlovely: How can the East be in cooperation with the south west who have continued to insult the Igbos since the end of the war even after they voted a yoruba twice at the polls? Have yoruba ever voted an Igbo man? Who told that an Igbo man is your boy-boy? WE ARE NOT SUPPORTING THE SW IN 2023. They have taken their turn. Simple. 1 Like |

Christistruth00:No,it was Musa Yar'adua(a northerner), Obasanjo candidate, which the north foistered on him, providence only smiled on GEJ,but he was unable to change the narrative, due to wrong advice and betrayals by his own people use by the northern cabals. |

DOTian: Precisely! And they used that military force to tilt the political-economy in their favour, so much so that 24 years after the military left, it’s that same political-economy they’re still using to dominate the rest of the country in the so called ‘Democratic’ dispensation! But i reckon the key factor responsible for their cohesiveness and commonality of purpose is their religion of Islam! Their ruling elite use Islam as a rallying point to get their masses to think whatever they’re asked to do is for the promotion of Islam against the ‘infidels’ Christianity’ 1 Like |

1) I don't agree that north has always dictated political events in Nigeria. 2011 presidential election is an example. It was the turn of the north to produce the president to complete it is tenure under PDP's "zoning" arrangement but GEJ insisted and eventually had his way. 2) To answer your question as to why north dominates Nigerian politics: a) Population. North has relative advantage over the south in terms of voting population. b) Political consciousness. Despite the low literacy level in the north, political culture is deeply rooted in the psyche of an average northerner. This has to do with the leadership development process of the region. Even before the coming of colonialists many parts of the region had well developed method of administration with intense scheming just like it is practiced today. c) A population that is united by religion and culture. Most parts of the north were once under a single administration with a control centre at Sokoto - The Sokoto Caliphate. Islam was the uniting factor in this. d) Political patronage from the elites to the poor. Even before the coming of colonialists people close to corridors of power have always served as means of getting favour for the poor from the kings. Same applies today. |
