Mr Lawan says with Mr Tinubu as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, the ruling party is confident of victory in the 2023 presidential poll.

The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan said on Wednesday that the emergence of former Governor Bola Tinubu as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has reassured his party of winning the 2023 presidential poll.

In a letter of congratulation he personally signed, Mr Lawan, who was also an aspirant in the primary, said the outcome of the election process had shown that Mr Tinubu was the popular choice of his party.

He also explained why he ran against the former Lagos governor.

“As Your Excellency is aware, I offered myself alongside your good self and other patriotic members of the party to fly its highly coveted flag in the 2023 presidential election,” Mr Ahmad said.

“I did so in the belief that I have the knowledge base, ideas, experience and desire to provide leadership for our dear country at these most trying times. However, the outcome of the election process has shown that Your Excellency is the popular choice of our party for that assignment.”

Read the full text of the letter to Mr Tinubu below.

Dear Asiwaju (Bola Ahmed Tinubu)

The Presidential Primary of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), for the 2023 General Election has come and gone.

I am elated and proud that the Presidential primary was manifestly free and fair, and conducted within our APC Family under a most convivial atmosphere.

The success of the event again demonstrates the capacity of our great party to run its internal affairs smoothly and devoid of rancour.

As Your Excellency is aware, I offered myself alongside your good self and other patriotic members of the party to fly its highly coveted flag in the 2023 presidential election.

I did so in the belief that I have the knowledge base, ideas, experience and desire to provide leadership for our dear country at these most trying times.

However, the outcome of the election process has shown that Your Excellency is the popular choice of our party for that assignment.

I do not have an iota of doubt in the wisdom of that decision by our Party’s delegates from across the country.

Your glittering track record of public service, foresight and grit in party building and administration, as well as the courage you continue to demonstrate in fighting for the entrenchment of democracy in Nigeria make you worthy of the high esteem and trust of our party members everywhere in Nigeria as exhibited at the National Convention.

It is on this note that I heartily congratulate you on your well-deserved victory at the primary.

I have no doubt that with your credentials, experience, antecedents and political sagacity, our great party will go into the 2023 contest confident of victory.

As a loyal party member, I remain committed to the party at all times and will always be available to work for its success.

Once again, I congratulate Your Excellency on your well-deserved nomination as the standard-bearer of our party and, Insha Allah, the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Signed:

Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan PhD, CON
President of the Senate,
Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Conmen everywhere.
Selfish and self centered leaders, pretending that they love the masses, planning to feed the beloved masses with cassava, while they feed on intercontinental dishes with their families at the expense of the impoverished and oppressed masses

Igbos in APC should better align with Tinubu now and reap from the dividends of fully supporting the party candidate.

Ego drags you down than it builds you up.

He needs to pay an immediate visit to Bourdillon to explain how he suddenly became a consensus candidate mischievously. Otherwise, his political career ends. grin

Tinubu's base is the low income, low education segment of the south west, and that constitutes a significant segment of the population of a country like Nigeria. If we want a change our focus is to create a movement that will be carried by the poor and uneducated that are the majority.

Nigerian youth must believe in themselves to save this country

Of course Tinubu has got no other choice than to forgive them all now;
And then to "unforgive" them again, if he is sworn in on May 29th 2023.

If you don't know, now you know!

What a coward.
So he is scared.

I despise weak people. Wickedness is the only way to meet someone like Tinubu. Wickedness for wickedness until one person drops dead.

See how Osinbanjo disgraced himself,I mentioned this and some Nairaland tadpoles abused me and all, you can’t bite the finger that fed you,in everything, never be ungrateful…

Not supporting his boss will forever make him a betrayer even though I sort of believe Tinubu won’t defeat Atiku who got over 11 millions votes contesting against Buhari who happens to be an incumbent.

Shame on y’all for trying to recycle thieves, y’all will cry again for another 8 years, can only get worse

Its too late to apologise.
I remembered how Tinubu fought for this Lawan to become senate president in 2015, before Saraki and PDP outsmart them.
Even when he bought the presidential ticket, I thought, he was working with Tinubu, but when Buhari and cabals started giving him force hope, he started believing he can defeat the rest including Tinubu, even when he didn't campaign vigorously like others.
Lesson: Do not overestimate your power

No hard feelings. It’s all politics and nothing else. The primary is now over and it’s time to unite and deliver victory for the party at the general election.
