It's about demand.

In Afghanistan, a security can be paid $1k a day because their is 95% chance he would die.

So a gateman in Nigeria would be paid less until things are so critical that they are willing to pay more.

Anything that has to do with anyone carrying a rifle, the person should be paid very well.. if not they will pay themselves.

The companies actually pay the security outfits as high as 60 to 100k per staff used...

If a security personnel is getting 15 to 25k as monthly wage, then his contract company is pocketing over 60% of what is meant for him.

Some of these low paid jobs should just be a no no instead I dey my house dey drink garri.... If any thing get missing and there is a deduction those involved will fight the oga...

Sincerely speaking, it's the recruitment company that caused it, I was once an officer (security man from Santana security services) and my pay no dey reach me to transport myself to the company (duty post) and even my life was at risk, factory workers will group themselves and omo n'ile combined and will be waiting outside the premises to devour an innocent person like me.

I once worked with santana too, as a guard, later as a supervisor before I resigned.

I agree with you but don't be too fast to say they are protecting lives and properties. You will be shocked to see some of your security men running ahead of you on the day the bad guys will storm your company/house

A security guard is unarmed, his duty is to protect by watchfulness and diligence, engaging armed thieves is not part of the job description,
That one is for armed guards or the law enforcement officers.

Some jobs are mearnt to cause more depression than happiness.

Security guard jobs are high risk jobs . . .but how are we going to convince the average Nigerian employer that these guys deserve better than N15k/N20k a month? Imagine keeping millions worth of goods in the care of someone earning a paltry N15k

Well thats the work am doing but was sack

Mine was in a bank the pay is 31k but there will be increment this month i ve work there for years

There was fire outbreak in that same bank last year and i was one of those who make sure they stop the fire

We stopped the fire before the fire service dept came me and 3 other guys a security and 2 drivers. This bank till today didnt appreciate us but rush to give federal and state fire dept 100k each

In this same bank
A religional complainant has pushed a pregnant lady who happens to be a customer care service attendent and nothing happen

But i was asked to stop work because i accosted a girl who tresspassed into the bank premises on Saturday thats not a work day

They didn't even know if the girl is a criminal or a spy but they asked me to stop work

I thank God cause i wont do that work forever

Currently am learning programming course

But it painful how this people don't regard security guards in this country

It's a low skilled job so their pay can't be at par with other Company staff with higher qualifications. But I also believe that they can be paid better .

That's why Beneficiaries of their security should have a culture of Tipping , which I do as often as I can . If you're the type that cooks and even waste alot, give them meals or food item for Thier families it will go a longer way for them and it might even make them more dedicated to work Body No be wood, Just Show love to a Human Being

I just hired a security man for my office and I insisted he will receive around 70k gross salary. I believe security men go to the same market like the rest of us and therefore, deserve a reasonable wage.

I'm a security guard whose salary is above 100k. I'm proud of that company and we are highly valued with mouth-watering perks. There's also a terminal benefit if one decides to quit..

Security is a poor paying job worldwide.

Regardless, they should be better rewarded in Nigeria.

Generally security jobs don't pay much. Take a look at Police, Immigration, NSCDC, Corrections, Fire Service etc, if they don't have access to do sharp practices, na die.

If you want high paying jobs, don't do security.

Is the security guard the armed one or the one that will raise alarm if he sees an armed robber?

If it's the latter then it's very low and I don't think anyone would do it.

But if it's the latter then I would tell you to sue the parent company the security officers work for, I hope you know most of them on outfits are on contracts for the main company they guard, so their contractors rip them off.

Moreover I don't think they really deserve a so much high pay, 50k can be considered fair, well it all depends on the employer.

banks generally doesn't regard or appreciate employees no matter how long u serve them, employees can b discarded anytime.
