Blasphemy, no matter how you want to paint it or maybe your miniscule mind can't comprehend properly the "old school" paved the way and the only thing that helped this young cats is as you said SOCIAL MEDIA, forget the hype but I tell you this based on good music davido and wiz can't be compared to the likes of 2face and dbanj and co. Do you know what exactly you are saying young man. This young guys sing and it reign couple of months or highest a year. If anything sef wizkid gather weight talent wise pass davido, aside Dami duro and 2 or 3 songs no other davido song make sense. Honest opinion.

I believe its was The Internet, streaming platforms and YouTube that decentralised music not just in Nigeria but all over the world. I would be difficult for Kennis music to have that dominance if the Internet was available at that time.

KiNg0G:
When I see people talking about how tiktok, instagram, social media influence the whole nigeria music and made it more opened to the masses (upcoming artist) to thrive on. I quite agreed with them but one thing they always forget is to give accolades to the two men who made it possible before those app came noticed.

We all knew how the nigeria music industry operated in the early 2000s, ( 2 decades ago) it was controlled by different cabals who called themselves record labels, from kennis music, square records, storm records, mo hit and some other few. if you don't belong to any of the aforementioned you can't get a collaboration not to talk of making it big in nigeria. they were many upcoming artist then who were so good but was never heard of because soundcity refuses to play their songs. Them never play kennis stars music finish, na you when dey ojulegba...na them want play?
Radio stations were delibartely turning down upcoming musicians record tapes except you got connection to pull some strings.

Then came wizkid and Davido, they changed the entire music scene from the hands of this cabals and the monopoly they practiced. like so many wizkid was signed to eme record when he was still a teenager. he spent few years and left, during that time alot of upcoming artist saw that they could actually thrived, since wizkid did it, davido did it within a short period of time they could also.

That was the end of the Godfatherism in the nigeria music entertainment. so many of them old school musicisns with likes of dbanj, 2face were forced to retirement home! thumbs up to wizkid and davido they made the industry opened to everyone because they practically decentralized it and they forever have my respect for that.

Err op...
That is how the global music industry was until cats like soulja boy broke the Internet through music streaming
When was the last time you bought a music compact disc?exactly! Because of streaming
Radio stations could not control social media hence the boom of unknown artists
Hate to burst your bubble but those two are not responsible for the boom in the industry

The bolded is a big lie.
Olamide has been popular before being featured by Wizkid.
“Eni duro” single released by Olamide put him into stardom when Olamide was with ID Cabasa.

Your analysis is shallow and typical of the indomie generation, though I agree with some of your opinions
Not here to argue with kids who only knows how to throw shade's and insults to strangers just because they want to make a point.
Calling me an indomie generation is an insult to your father not me

Eniduro was a street jam. It was a hit on the street but not on air ways.

Omotoshan was the song that literally blew olamide up
It was the song that put him on the spotlight.

Once again, I may not respond to you again

That's the reason I left olamide out

And we still can't dispute The influence those two have till today can't be compared to olamide.

Let's leave that argument for another day

That poster is right. You can't mention those two in that regard without adding Olamide to the list. And no, "omo to shun" didn't fckingg bring Olamide to limelight. That's an insult and it shows you know nothing about the nigerian music industry and nigerian music. His single "eni duro" did. Guy was so confident in himself. He even said he doesn't need to be on mtn project fame and star quest to make it in life.

Nonsense post.
The exposure of the Nigerian youths to crime, sex, women and drugs caused all these.
Wizkid and David would never have been known at all if not for all these.

After going through your long epistle, I'm yet to see where wizzy and David impacted on Record labels. If you have mentioned they brought more exposure to the afro pop music I'll agree with you. The decentralization from the top dawgs like kennis was actually done by Gee guys who invested into the music industry, talk about coded tunes, ybnl and others they really impacted on the upcoming artist and showed you can blow even if you're from the street.

Op, you try but you actually missed the storyline. The only thing that sounds very correct in your write-up was the Monopoly of the music industry by Kennis Music. Now, here is what was missing from your storyline:

Foremost, before I jump into Kennis Music's Monopoly, let me quickly appreciate the contribution of Kally Ikpe of the New Live Beats musical programme on the defunt NTA 2 Channel 5 in the late 90s. Cally Ikpe runs no record label though but he used his programme to air Notable Nigerian artistes back then and I must say without an iota of doubt that Plantashun Boiz most especially 2Face and Black face (Faze never join them then) should be grateful to him. Infact, the duo did the jingle of The New Life beat musical programme for Cally Ikpe..Big up to Cally Ikpe..

Now back to Kennis Music's monopoly and who break it? RUGGEDMAN! Those who remember the track, 'Ehn Ehn' back then in the early 2000 should remember the story and which platform did he (Ruggedman) used? STAR FM and big up to DJ BOMBASTIC and ALABA BOYS. RUGGEDMAN proved to other Nigerian musical artistes then that without the Kennis Music's AIT Jamz and influence of Raypower, their music can be heard!

Then came NIGEZIE by my main man, KWAME! While Souncity was promoting more of foreign artiste on AIT, KWAME was promoting Nigerian artiste both on AIT (as an Independent Producer which Kennis Music has no influence on) and MITV.

Suffice to say that the likes of DJ BOMBASTIC and KWAME gave Nigerian artistes hope through their music programme STAR FM and MITV respectively!

RUGGEDMAN CD was really sold at Alaba Market and on the street of Lagos.

Thereafter came the record label like Mo-hits, Storm, Timbuktu, Dove etc and the rest is history.

Naija music has really evolved and to God be the glory.

I hope this compliment your write-up, Op.

Welldone bro

Oga, keep arguing with yourself, ok? But know that your list is incomplete without Olamide. There's no nigerian artist I love more than Wizkid, mind you. That is not to say I'll keep silent when you disrespect Olamide by not adding him to your fckked up list.

Eniduro was a hit on the street of lagos, it didn't put baddo on the spotlight.. talking about the thick corners of the east or The ghettos in the south.

I can lecture you more

But it will be on my next post.
I live in the north,Zaria sef,Eni Duro was a monster hit that was where we 1st knew olamide and his acceptance was even more instant that wizkid or davido, was more like wizkid was even the underdog on Omotoshan like...and omotoshan wasn't even nearly as big as Eni Duro was,my opinion is that Davido and olamide have don a lot more for the Nigerian music industry than Wizkid

don't feel insulted over the counter opinion, I was actually waiting for someone to counter your stand on Olamide being found fame as results of him being featured on the sound track of 'omo to shan'. this is a BIG NO.

'e ni duro' was it for Olamide. if said the vacuum created by Da Grin did for Olamide it is still acceptable.
