Would you say threat of sanctions or end user restriction requirements that comes with US sales. The latter seems more probable to me. As a regional power any inhibitions to power projection for national interests is a minus.

I guess I can start dreaming on the C-130s replacements that would be a logistic banger. Nothing appears though to show our Air Forces planners looking in that direction.

Threats of sanctions is a serious worry for Nigeria, that's why I see significant concerns with US weapons. However it was same threat of sanctions that dissuaded Nigeria from getting the remaining MI-35M helicopters from Russia.

If you can't buy from anywhere else, you might as well just buy from America. That threat exists, and we have to live with it.

Their are restrictions on the use of the A-29 Super Tucanos, and their would be restrictions on the use the AH-1Z helicopters also.

I don't think Nigeria is allowed to use the Super Tucano outside of Nigeria for instance. We have to find a balance, and procure the right mix of military equipment.

We are buying helicopters and the Super Tucano from America, the M-346F/A from Italy. Areas where we can't deploy the Tucanos, we use the M-346F/A.

Nothing appears to show we are interested in the C-130s for now, all pointers show we will receive some C-295 aircrafts from Airbus in the near future. This won't be a bad purchase, but we should jettison them, in my opinion, for the C-130J instead.

Nemesis, let's talk.

A little simplistic, however if we say the War in Armenia was a the UCAV, is it infallible to refer to the war in Ukraine as the war of Artillery, Tanks, Cruise missiles and Special Operations Forces?

What is your understanding of Special Forces and do you think the war in Ukraine ensures that further expansion of Special Forces units, especially in terms of capabilities and their range of employment?

Your thoughts.

Makes sense

Except maybe China which holds a lot of US debt and the Americans are loathe to sanction or antagonize not even over Taiwan

Not a fan of the C-295. Political will, will get us the C-130J or even the C-5 Super Galaxy. We need enhanced strategic airlift capability.

Do you mean the C-17? That's currently out of production, but if you actually mean the C-5, we will never get that.

I'm not a fan of the C-295 either, I don't think it has the tonnage to be useful in Nigerian military service. C-130J on the other hand is just perfect.

One fighter capability, I think we should stick with the JF-17 for fighter capability or if we can the J-10. My problem with the J-10 is, I don't believe the US will allow Nigeria purchase the J-10 is when we also have the AH-1Z Viper.

I meant the C-5, the US tend to look the other way when it comes to surplus equipment not in active production. The C-130J though makes a lot of sense for the NAF having mastered the Aircraft needing no certifications for its pilots.

Except you mean pressures directly from the US as they do with some nations. That has apparently not been the case with Nigeria that actually takes its non-aligned status seriously. I think purchasing the J-10 won't be a problem, worse we use a third party Pakistan. But who knows in this treacherous world of geo-politics and the fight to remain relevant you might be right, just dunno anymore because as we can see shortly after Pakistan got the J-10 Prime Minister Imran Khan was removed and he says himself intelligence points directly to the US as the culprit that bribed lawmakers to oust him.

No evidence of new Tank deliveries for Nigeria.

The President's office announced the single largest procurement of Armoured vehicles a few weeks back.

So, it's safe to assume we might be getting additional Tanks and Artillery systems.

Although Nigerian media reported Nigeria placed orders for 35 Tanks, quoting our Defense minister.

In May 2019, Minister of Defence, Brigadier General Mansur Dan-Ali, said the Nigerian government had provided funding for the acquisition of modern equipment for the Nigerian armed forces, with some in service and others on the way

This included 35 main battle tanks, 25 Typhoon MRAPs (mine-resistant, ambush protected vehicles), 20 Armoured Guard Booths, five armoured mine-clearing vehicles, 50 troop-carrying vehicles and 40 Buffalo vehicles, among others for the Nigerian Army.

Massive news and important foreign direct investment for Nigeria.

SierraNevCorp to inaugurate their permanent presence in Nigeria & ongoing success of the A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft program. We remain committed to providing the tools & training for Nigeria to counter insecurity.

At the time the deal was completed, it was the largest ever Foreign Military Sale in Sub-Saharan Africa, valued at $497 million.

We hope Nigeria can increase operational effectiveness by adding another squadron of A-29 aircraft as quickly as possible.”

Some ignorant people were claiming the Nigerian government paid 600 million dollars for this deal undecided undecided

Geopolitics has changed very fast when Russia invaded Ukraine.

The US now See's Nigeria as a very strategic partner, let's take India for example there were times when the US would not partner with the Indians for anything the US won't sell weapons to India forcing India to make Russia it's sole arms supplier but now the US is trying to reduce India's dependents on Russian made weapons.

After Russia's invasion of Ukraine the US parliament all of a sudden approved the sale of AH attack helicopters and I asked myself where did all those human rights abuse concerns disappeared to after it blocked the sales for months and things were looking very bad and every one was thinking the sales will not go through

The US now See's Nigeria as the largest Nation and also the largest democracy in the African continent and has now started it's campaign to drow Nigeria close and make her a strategic partner

According to the US ambassador in Abuja today: there's always a war between autocracy and democracy and Nigeria is the largest democracy in Africa which makes her strategically important to the US

If you read what was said by the representative of the SNC company you will understand that the US is trying to get more of it's equipments into the armed forces of Nigeria by doing so we will be one of their puppets in the UN and don't be surprise if a day comes and the US offer's Nigeria the same deal it offered Egypt which means the US will be funding a portion of the Nigeria defense budget this fund would be used to purchase only American weapons

And don't forget Nigeria is a potential member of the UN permanent security council
