The VC used this as propaganda against the resistance, spreading pictures of a man in handcuffs being shot in the head.

it was then picked up in the US and spread that same propaganda.

The part that the narrative omits is that this man was a serial killer and child murderer.

and right before this picture he just slaughtered all six children of the man shooting him.

any human being who just lost his entire family to a serial killer would do exactly what he just did.

Pretty much everyone has heard of Tank Man and seen the photograph of him stood in front of a line of Chinese establishment war machines, holding his ground and standing up for peace. Even though we don’t know his name or his fate he is very well-known and discussed as a symbol of non-violent activism. The person who doesn’t get nearly enough attention in this incident is the driver of the lead tank. He is the person who, faced with an easy target, used every manoeuvre to avoid running over and killing the mad protester with his plastic bags. The tank driver may have had military commands shouted at him over the radio telling him to just move on and follow his orders. But he took part in the dance and played the hero instead. I hate to think what happened to him for contributing to one of the most damaging photos to Chinese government reputation
