To our dear ladies in the house, the cravings that comes with pregnancy, what happens to your body or how do you feel when you are unable to eat or drink what you were craving for.

Prior before now, I have been hearing of how men have issues with their wives due to cravings. A lot of the time that couples come to our marriage counseling, some of the problems that occur were as a result of cravings by the wives and wanting the man to prepare or go out to get the things for her.

I have been hearing it from a third person perspective. Now it's happening to my friend and almost every day he comes to me to get small money to buy something for his wife.

This my friend's marriage is about 6 months, and the wife is pregnant. Now this is a cool headed guy that don't have the heart of saying no to request. Everytime, the wife is asking him to get her something or prepare something for her.

Now this guy is working as a contract staff in my place of work and his salary is not up to 70k. Every evening the wife wants him to buy food for her, even when there is food at home. And what the wife is requesting for is not what you will buy with 500 naira. We are talking about 1.5k-2k.
Now considering his salary and when you factor in cost of other family logistics, there is no way that he won't run into debt.

He has been coming to me for small small money to buy these things. Even yesterday, he came saying that the wife wants to eat vegetable soup and pounded yam, after he has finished preparing swallow, though if different soup.

Am beginning to pity the young man cos you can see the stress all over his face.


I still reiterate my question.

How do you ladies feel when you are unable to get what you are craving for.

Do you fall sick or what?
Or if you are craving for food A and you were giving food B, cant you be able to manage it, or is it a must that you will have what you crave for.

Hormones are responsible for such cravings. Her mouth and thirst buds will keep itching to taste that particular food she is craving for, when she has eaten it, the satisfaction is awesome

But, if she doesn't eat it, she will still be okay. It's just that we women use pregnancy as an excuse to eat whatever we want, and get away with being mischievous

He should try to do the best he can. The wife should be considerate too. The journey ahead is still far, make she calm down.

Any craving I have, I satisfy it. I don’t want to know how I feel not satisfying my cravings. I imagine it’s almost the same as an addict, you can literally taste, smell or imagine what you are craving in your mind. I don’t know how people fight it but kia, I enter my car, zoom off and go and buy it. My mind will not rest till I eat it!

Our female hormones are incredible. That is why when people claim they are a woman I just laugh. They think it’s just to wear makeup and lipstick. Being a woman is very complicated and interesting. Lol. The satisfaction you get from feeding your craving is almost like orgasm

Nothing will happen. If you have the money to buy anything she requests for, please don't hesitate to buy it but if you don't have, abeg call her and explain situations to her. You can't be earning less than 70k and then your wife will be having cravings worth 150k in a month. Na die o o o.

I've never been pregnant but during my period I have cravings for anything sweet or extra spicy , I even used to chew cubes of sugar in the past but now I get other snacks , chocolate , soft drink , juice , but when I'm really broke I will just manage drink because if I stay like that I might end up cranky and have mood swings , and the worst is when I have a bf , that time is when my eye used to open , I'll be like "do you even love me ? In fact let's breakup " I'm not joking

I eat more on my period , I could be buying food , I eat one plate there buy two more, eat one when I get to my room, and then eat the other 5 minutes later , on a normal day I pick my food, I also spend hours in the toilet it's like everything just happens during those dreadful 5 days

Honestly the best time to blackmail a woman to like you is when she's on her period , just buy food and drop , rub her stomach, tell her sorry even if you don't mean it , and voila you're nominated as boyfriend of the year by WAAW (Women association around the world)

Cravings can be managed. Apart from me not being the type to stress out my husband, my neighbour told me one time she was really craving chicken and chips, but her hubby was broke. She went to the kitchen and fried yam and ate with beef.

My big sis use to crave the bush meat on Lag/Ibadan expressway . Her husband said if he should die going there to get it for her, she will never eat bush meat for the rest of her life. That she should crave something close by.

Let your friend take it easy and explain to his wife that buying everything she craves for is not sustainable.

lol.... I like your comment. It reminds me of what my mum always say to us. Before you get married, ensure you have considerable amount of money that you will use to take care of your wife during pregnancy.

Am even getting "scared" sef. Cos am planning on getting married and seriously I cant really put up with the pressure that this guy is passing through.

We usually close late from office and when he comes back home.... The wife will be bugging him to go get something. Its really stressing.

Is the wife working too? If she asks him for money to go baby shopping and he tells her that her cravings have eaten the whole money and he's in debt, will she accept?

It's not just about her. Your friend needs to plan for the baby. If they need to get diapers, clothes, baby food, she won't listen to "there's no money". He needs to let her know the situation. Cravings can be managed. It is not do or die.

Those living abroad crave masa, Olaiya amala, mama Ngozi's akara, roasted yam with that local sauce, designer rice, jevinik afang, etc. Will they ask their husbands to travel to Nigeria to get it?

Let him not go bankrupt funding cravings. She's his wife and not a stranger. He should be able to talk to her.
