The fact that you spend more years in school so earn more than a Nurse doesn't mean a thing. Nurses earn more than some other professionals too in the labour market, that doesn't mean nurses are superior to them. Anyone can decide to choose any profession they like. I know some doctors that travelled out only to go study and become nurses over there because of the ease of getting jobs there as Nurses. And I know some nurses that went back to school to become doctors so they can have a higher pay. Some nurses go back to school to become lawyers. I know a doctor that went back to write ICAN certification to become a chartered accountant. So it's all a matter of choice.
Then stop being envious. You might as well write ICAN if you want to. Try to use that your rudimentary brain and top condoning criminal behavior.

In any sane society that doctor that did not dispose of her instruments appropriately would only be sent for a refresher course on safe disposal of sharps/clinical waste (which would most likely be completed online sef). Meanwhile that nurse would be arrested for at the least assault and probably abduction.

So while you keep screaming that doctors abroad can't try this or try that bear it in mind that if you try the rubbish your demonic sister tried abroad you might end up in jail and will definitely lose that your mighty nursing job. Meanwhile the house officer will be doing online refresher course while watching Netflix. cheesy

cheesy cheesy Why are you always talking about envy? Do you think it's everyone that wants to be a medical doctor? My younger sister is a doctor. My brother in law is a doctor. I had the opportunity to go for medicine but I chose Nursing instead and I have my reasons. Even if I decide to go for medicine or law tomorrow it's my choice. It's nothing about envy.
I dont think anyone mentioned that locking someone up was right. Youre the one assuming rubbish. The Nurse may have handled the issue in a more peaceful way but she was probably frustrated by doctors acting ridiculously repeatedly. It's not about going for a refresher course, it's about doctors putting down their ego and doing the right thing.
And please, try to learn about emotional intelligence especially when you have to interact with other people. You seem to lack that with your choice of words. Being a doctor doesn't mean you should be senseless with how you talk to others. I've met many polite and intelligent doctors. You can aspire to be one too

GoodIsGod:
Give women small power and they become beasts.
These so called gender wants to become governor's and head of state.
Shior.

Several years back. I was given cheque from Lagos by a client to cash in my state of residence. I was having only my international passport as a means of identification. It was a Friday and once I can't cash it, I would have to wait till Monday. There was nothing at home for my family. I went to bank to cash it and got to the cashier who is a female. She checked by he cheque front and back and asked for my ID. I gave her my passport and she looked at me.

"Mr GoodisGod your passport expired two days ago. I was startled I collected it and checked and it was true.
"I am sorry I didn't know until now" I said.
"Any other ID?" She asked.
I said I don't have another
"I can't pay you " she said and called the next on the queue.
"Sister please help me. It's just two days of expiration. I need this money" I pleaded.
" I am sorry I can't pay you" she repeated.
I hurriedly left for another bank before the closing hour. And it was a lady at the counter again. She looked at the passport and said same thing.

"I am sorry it is wrong for me to pay you with expired ID"

I left the bank for another and the thought of my family going hungry through the weekend was bothering me.
This time around I promised myself I won't go before a female cashier no matter what.

I entered the bank and it was my turn in front of a gentleman.
I gave him the cheque and he asked for my ID. I gave him the ID. Then he looked me in the face.

"Mr. GoodisGod your passport expired two days ago" he said.
"Yes I replied. Im sorry I have no other and I need the cash for the weekend" I replied.
"Go and renew it or get another form of ID. When next you come with this I won't pay you" the guy said and he started counting the money. grin

I breathed a breath of relief.
And since that day, I prefer a male cashier to the females. Even when all my documents are on point.

Ladies change your attitudes. You are made beautiful, so your behavior should be beautiful likewise. grin
This is very true about femal cashiers
Omo.. Female cashiers don show me shege and I avoid them like a pleague.

If that doctor decided to press charges, the nurse will go to jail for a very long time. That is abduction. It is a punishable offence.

You talk as if you just came to Nigeria. Who doesn't know that most of those that get into Medicine use the backdoor, probably because their parents are rich or influential. Those that get in through merit are very few. That's why we have lots of doctors today without proper clinical and emotional training. I know of a doctor who used combined WAEC results to get into medicine. Something that cannot ever happen in Nursing. I know of a doctor that scored lowest amongst her friends but she was the only one that got medicine because her parents knew the deputy governor. Is it not this same Nigeria?
So if you want to talk about being smart, you're missing the point in thinking it's only smartness that get people into medicine in Nigeria.

Half baked doctor. I hold an undergrad from Lagos, post grad in surgery in the UK and a surgery fellowship in Australia where i currently live and work. Introduce yourself. Because we are on nairaland is no excuse to be ignorant. Go and learn what medicine is all about and the tree of medical command. I didn't create it and neither did you. That matron I am sure did not have a bachelors. Maybe went to nursing school and advanced her career. Even nurses with a bachelors still receive directions from doctors. If you don't like it or understand it next time you have an emergency surgery have a nurse attend to you. This is not berating of any profession but in health a chain of command exists. Educate yourself please.

The link has nothing to do with what the issue at hand.
According to WHO it states that every hazardous object should be discarded by the person who generated it, be it a nurse or a doctor.

Then in the western world, I know some female nurses who are theatre nurses, that says they don't experience what Nigerian nurses are experiencing, that every surgeon discards and clears the operating table after surgery.
Though some forget, and they call their attention to it, and they apologize and do the right then.

You all should do the right then, and stop these it's not in my job description
That was not hazardous substances. The doctors stated that they discarded all sharps. What is left is materials for scrubbing. Guaze, blood and so on. There is nothing hazardous about it. It is because the doctor in question was a house officer, I know how nurses try to use their might on young doctors as pay back. Why not lock up a reg or consultant. What she did was wrong on every level plain and simple. Only in Nigeria.

The hierarchy that exists in Medicine should be amongst doctors. Doctors are not bosses to Nurses. It's better you get that right now. They are colleagues. What a doctor can do , a nurse may not be able to do, and what a Nurse can do, a doctor cannot do. A Nurse cannot spend five years in the university plus one year internship and expect her to be an errand girl for one doctor. If a procedure is not a Nurses procedure, it is not part of one's duty. There are clear cut duties for every medical professional, and cleaning up after doctors is not a part of Nurses procedure.
A nurse is part of a medical team. Can you work on your own? Can you diagnose a patient? Then what are you saying. Except you know what you are saying this is no argument here.

Seems you're ignorant of how clinical practice works worldwide. A Nurse is NOT a doctor's assistant. Each has his or her job to do. If a doctor wants to set an IV line, he can do it himself and if he can't, he will politely ask the nurse to help him. It is not a Nurse's duty to cut plaster for a doctor. She can only assist if the doctor requires it. Nurses have their jobs to do on the ward, not to follow doctors about when they are doing their own work. Nollywood movies and the quack nurses trained by doctors you see in private hospitals have clouded your senses
Where did you train? Everyone should work with pride. I personally have respect for all members of the health team. Scrubbing and discarding of waste (except sharps and hazards) after a procedure is universally that of the nursing team. This includes monitoring the patient and if the procedure was done in the theatre wheeling the patient back to the wards. It is a job done with pride in saner nations. But in Nigeria people like this sister here see it as deregulatory and demeaning.

How will any sane person leave this behind and expect another professional to dispose the waste for him or her. It is not done in any sane country, whoever generates waste disposes of it.

Trust some moronic Nigerians who don't know any better to support what the dirty negligent Dr did because they don't know any better.
In civilized countries the Dr dares not try that with a health assistant that has just SSCE qualification because he will be joking with an incident report written against him
Now with the actions of the kidnaper nurse, who will get an incident report now.

The nurse might have a good case but she has used illiteracy to spoil her case and she would be going to jail for kidnapping another person.

In primary health centres, public health nurses diagnose patients and treat them. So it all depends on what your job is. In US, Nurse practitioners diagnose and treat patients. And normally, as Nurses, we have Nursing diagnosis that we use and write for patients to take care of them in the ward. So what are you saying?

A senseless injection jabber like you with a vestigial brain is commenting on other people's intelligence. Doctors not being bosses of nurses should not have been your focus. You never commented on the criminal behaviour of the nurse because your frustrated and envious vestigial brain was thinking only of showing that you were not inferior to a doctor.

If a Nurse did not work with a doctor on a procedure, she has no business discarding waste generated. The doctor discards the hazardous parts of the waste and the attendants scrub and clean the rest. In all the Nurses procedure that I learnt in school, there's none that says I have to discard waste generated by a doctor. None. So I don't know where you got your 'universal fact'
