Run oo

But does that mean if you quit or get sacked, you should still work in a similar company/firm ?

If true let we the yorubas support an Igbo man for president of the federal republic of Nigeria come 2023. God bless ndigbo for turning Lagos to a beautiful city.

Had job offer... But there's a part of contract that's making me so scared. It says employee should not join any other company doing similar things or selling similar products for the period of one year, after terminating his/her appointment. Is this not a modern form of slavery?

They can sue you to court if you accepted to offer and do otherwise. That's why you must check the terms before accepting the offer.

That is a non-compete, nondisclosure clause. If the offer is worth it you may take it. If not move, some companies require up to 5 years in some countries.
very correct.

If the offer is worth the clause, take it.

This isn't new. Most organization insert such clause in their contracts. Some is even 2-5yrs.

Most done in fields where the competition is very high.

Take the job, there is nothing that they can do legally. It's like telling you to sign a document that you would steal for them - it isn't legally binding. If that's the only thing that you are concerned about, it is nothing.

It’s to protect company secret from their competition, that’s why they said “companies doing similar things”

Its normal thing na.

Though most employees still go against it
Re: Is This Not A Form Of Slavery? by 79733139(m): 3:45pm On Jul 02, 2022
They can't. It isn't legally binding in court. Our labour laws protects people from that kind of exploitation. The contract would get thrown out of court. A school cannot ask its teachers not to get a job in another school after leaving.

It is standard practice so that you don't share the company trade secrets with another competing brand.

Your statement sound strange. I never heard of such in my entire life. Sorry I employed people as well I have never seen or heard anybody raised this type of discussion in my presence, however did you check if that company is a cultist den hiding as a company?

What you said is strange and has occultic undertone because that is that is their style, how can a company say a year after you left them you can work for similar company so if you are in Abj and you get offer in Enugu or Ondo state they will come looking for you? Or which employment law stated such occultic contract signing method?

It's either its an acultic set up or you are just not telling us the truth.

My current job contract has that condition, it should't stop you from taking the offer if it makes sense after-all no consequence was disclosed.

However, note that if you breach it and your new company writes them for reference, they might write a poor feedback.
