Good day

So sorry to about ur refusal.

Am not sure what u wrote about the dorm account in ur cover letter about the $5K though the VO mentions something above that amount (£6.6K). Where are the source of these funds? Did it come in tranches or a one time gbem?

Am guessing the VO chose to overlook this dorm statement because there were some unclear things there. She then focused on ur access bank statement which am guessing is ur salary account and ur payslips and the inflows and outflows and then the balance.

U earn 345K a month and living costs of 140K leaving u with disposable income of about 205K. Ur proposing to spend 968K which is about 5 times ur disposable while u have a bank balance of probably only ur April salary (345K) in ur account. This doesn't add up hence the VO wielding the axe.

U were expecting the norm account to bail u out but instead the VO focused on the naira account.

It's not that bad. Just reapply when ur account is robust enough to accommodate ur trip. Don't bother using ur norm account except if u can clarify the amounts in it

There seems to be something about this income bracket of 250-350K ( just like the guy with the earlier refusal letter) and getting it right with the rules. Some get it but some don't.

Pls @Askari could help here with how to help get the right values for the rules.

Take ur time and reapply addressing the issues

Goodluck

sammiy:
Did biometric on 18th May in Ikeja, Got refusal on 7th July, so confirming that post on if you did biometric earlier with no response yet then most likely you have good news coming.

Professionals please what is your counsel on this refusal, provided dorm account statement with about $5k and stated in cover letter that the dorm account is my savings. Access statement & payslips showed other allowance i get aside salary but it appears the ECO didnt take time to assess application

The truth is a great number of people that want to apply for UK visas, if you let them know that they need a few months to arrange their bank statements, and/or reduce their monthly expenses they get angry and feel you are saying nonsense. They rush there, get a refusal and come back to complain.
Also what people refuse to understand is that there are certain salary amounts that wont cut it anymore. In the past yes 170k to 200k..
by the time you bring in monthly expenses of say 50k you are left with a disposable income of 120-170k(what do you want to sponsor with this?)
Also in the past yes showing acct balance of 600k yess… but things have changed… exchange rate has skyrocketed and this profile has a lot of disadvantages. If you talk again, they will say noo.it’s not possible. .. they can apply.
ECO knows if you come here and see a better paying job, in the blink of an eye you will abandon that your 170k job which is the fact… so why give you the visa?
Again this period, I dont know if it’s attributable to the deplorable state of what’s goin on in Nigeria but it’s obvious applicants for UK have increased and whether anyone likes it or not, things have changed.
So many.. in fact the way the ECOs are going… you should not just wake up today and say tomorrow you are going to apply for UK visa if you have not done your homework.
Virgin passports will get the visa but believe it or not travel history(significant country) does count.
Infact these days, ECO is wondering why you will just wake up and decide it’s UK you want to go to when you have never visited anywhere else
There are so many many things tht work for A that won't work for B. Do your homework first before embarking on this journey. I personally have had a time where I had to sit down and analyze my financial situation/home ties and use months to upto a year to correct any confusions. .. but this is because I knew I had a profile that could be tweaked a little.
Some do not have and do not want to accept the truth. … herein lies the problem
There are also those with millions … but whose millions have been obtained in a confusing manner who need to sit down as well and do some arranging… if you say wait a little… problem
This is only part 1, which covers half of the financial ties… if we decide to go into why uk visas are refused we will sleep here and derail this thread.

Just to chip in somethings that might help so many & allay the fears of many - firstly, I loathe this typing process, so I’ll keep some sentences short and concise. I applied with the most scattered bank statement ever - tips- I had less than a mill 2 months before I applied. I boosted my acc with several deposits to catapult it to 9m plus. I was using my statement for a family of 5. Another blunder was leaving the status of my company inactive, there was no tax payment, no marriage cert, my company’s acc had like 20m plus but it wasn’t reflecting enough activities. Here is the thing- UK visa is point based - personal circumstance, immigration history & home ties. Being well grounded in two will give a positive outcome. I have a great immigration history, I have 2 US born children, my kids go to top tier schools in the country that has affiliation to UK institutes. I have great vacation pictures & vacation rentals history (all of these were there as supporting). I.e - I spent 4K pounds on accommodation on my last UK trip 9 years ago. I did collect a great deal of VAT returns whenever I’m in the UK. My point here is, statements, cac being inactive, disposable income, acc balance & some of the common grounds for refusal here are secondary. The primary reasons are always immigration history & personal circumstance. Another major thing is being realistic about your application form- proposed spending and the major purpose for travel. Once your points are 50%, the secondary reasons becomes the major reason for refusal. This is not a good time for first time travelers & low income earners. We can do a statistics here - 99% of those that have been approved have a fair immigration history. So, have good travelhistory, present a good income to the ECO’s & make sure you’re REALISTIC about the form filling in a way that will make sense to a common man. Your purpose for travel should be valid and appear genuine to ECO. Income from 400k with a fair travel history will cut it. I have also experienced someone who has been to the UK twice in the past with 6 months & 2 years visa & now reapplying for 6 months. Guess what? He was refused. That’s common sense. Most, intended immigrants apply for the cheapest entrance visa. Anyone who wants to japa wouldn’t apply for 2 or 5 years. 2, 5 & 10 years have a better success rate than 6 months. If you’re a first timer, save yourself the huge risk, now is not the best time. UK is experiencing large numbers of visitors. Even airlines have been cautioned to reduce passengers influx into Heathrow airport plus inflation has ravaged the world. Tickets & anything travel is yucking expensive

18th May - Biometrics
22nd May - transferred to DMC
8th July - received TLS collection email but yet to receive decision email from UKVI.

Update!
I collected my passport today with a 6 months visa
For those who might need insight into my application process.

I studied in the UK some years ago but applied for 6 months visitors visa to be on the safe side. I uploaded my previous UK visa, 2 invitation letters (one wedding invitation and another from my cousin who is also sponsoring my accommodation), employment letter (I earn 150k per month), pay slips, bank statement for salary, PiggyVest savings account statement and a sponsorship letter from my dad. I intend to stay for 2 weeks so my budget for the trip was roughly £2,000.

Question!
I’ve booked a flight with Turkish Airlines but it seems I need a transit visa.
To: Nigeria to Istanbul to Muğla-Bodrum (Türkiye) then London.
Return: London to Istanbul then Nigeria
Can anyone please advise on the Turkish transit visa application process cause I’m getting confused now.

Thanks in advance ❤️

You don't need a transit visa when passing through turkey. It's not an EU member.

Great comments on preparations for UK visa applications.

I employ you to read this doc I previously posted. It's intended to guide the ECOs on processing visa applications. Gain insight to what they look out for 1st hand.

Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 5 by giselle237: 7:12am On Jul 15, 2022
I will be posting it one by one for them to see by themselves.

The following factors will help you assess if an applicant is a genuine visitor:
• their previous immigration history, including visits to the UK and other countries
• the duration of previous visits and whether this was significantly longer than they originally stated on their visa application or on arrival - if this is the case, you should not automatically presume that the visitor is not genuine, but this may be a reason to question the applicant’s overall intentions
• their financial circumstances as well as their family, social and economic background
• their personal and economic ties to their country of residence
• the cumulative period of time the applicant has visited the UK and their pattern of travel over the last 12-month period, and whether this amounts to ‘de-facto’ residence in the UK
• whether, on the balance of probabilities, the information and the reasons for the visit or for extending their stay provided by the applicant are credible and correspond to their personal, family, social and economic background

Travel/ immigration history
You must consider the applicant’s travel history in their passport or travel document (and, for visa applications, that listed on the application form). A pattern of travel that shows the applicant has previously complied with UK immigration law may indicate the applicant is likely to be a genuine visitor, as might travel to other countries, especially the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Schengen countries or Switzerland.
If an applicant has previously failed to comply with another country’s immigration law, for example if they have been removed from another country, or if they have been refused entry to another country, this may suggest that an applicant is not likely to be a genuine visitor (depending on the circumstances).
Travel history should not be the only consideration in deciding whether you are satisfied an applicant is a genuine visitor. In particular there may have been a change in circumstances since previous travel. You should consider all relevant information for each application including any social and economic factors and any locally held information.
Where the applicant is a first-time traveller, you will need to rely on other evidence to satisfy you they are a genuine visitor.

Hi guys,

Please i had a US visa (two years) which expired in July 2020 but i did not use it (i.e., didn't travel) due to change of plans coupled with COVID issues. How do i incorporate this fact in my travel history? Other countries i have visited include UAE, Egypt and South Africa but i believe if i had gone to US it would have further boosted my travel history, however i couldn't go. How can i capture this fact in my application? Thanks.

Dear friends,

Recall that on June 7, 2022, I was refused a visit visa and subsequently requested for reconsideration. On July 7, 2022, I received an email that my application was being reconsidered. Today, July 15, 2022, I received a decision on the reconsideration - another laughable refusal. grin grin grin

The decision

I have refused your application for a visit visa because I am not satisfied that you meet the requirements of paragraph(s) 4.2 of Appendix V.

You applied for a six months visit visa on 12 April 2022 to visit the UK for tourism and your application was refused on 31 May 2022.

You submitted a formal complaint to contest the grounds of your refusal. I acknowledge that the previous refusal contained factual errors, I have therefore reconsidered your application. This reconsideration is based on the information you provided when first submitting your application. I have also taken in to consideration your objections and our previous decision.

You state that you intend to visit the UK for 10 days for tourism. You state that you are a self-employed director and earn 6,000,000.00 NGN a year (£12,117.72 @ exchange rate £1 = 495.14 NGN). I acknowledge that you have provided business registration documents and bank letters from Guaranty Trust Bank, Globus Bank and Stanbic Bank to demonstrate your business. I also acknowledge the covering letter you have submitted. Whilst I acknowledge that the bank letters state that you have business accounts with them, there are no corroborating bank statements from these banks to demonstrate any transactions or that show any business activity. You have provided a Providus bank statement which has a closing balance of 1,801,366.00 NGN (£3,639.83) and covers a four month period, with a limited transaction history, from January 2022 to April 2022 and contains salary credits of 500,000.00 NGN (£1,017.39). However, I am not satisfied that these salary credits in isolation demonstrate that your business is active or trading or that it is generating the income you have described. I am not satisfied that your application demonstrates your employment or financial circumstances as stated and this leads me to doubt your intentions for visiting.

In addition to this I am not satisfied that your application demonstrates family ties or that you have any dependents who are reliant on you. I acknowledge you have provided a document of a property purchase made in 2014, however, I am not satisfied that this property is being utilised by you in any way or that it is generating an income for you. I am not satisfied that your application demonstrates that you have strong personal ties or have assets of a nature that would satisfy me that you would leave after your visit.

Based on the above I am not satisfied on the balance of probabilities that you are a genuine visitor and intend to leave the UK at the end of your proposed stay or that you are visiting for the reasons stated.

Your application is therefore refused under paragraph V 4.2 (a) and (c) of the Immigration Rules.

Interestingly the Visa was issued 5th of July (a day before the proposed travel date of 6th of July). So they tried for me to make my trip but perhaps the TLS logistics failed them. Painfully I forgot to cancel my hotel booking and was debited cry

I was honestly worried I might not be given 10 years especially because I went straight from 6 months, but I was just tired of what I went through while renewing my passport and the chaos I witnessed when driving pass the TLS Ikeja earlier this year; it was pure madness. So decided to be out of the mess for 10 years; and boom it paid off.

Key points:
I was very open and truthful; I was once denied a Canada visa and I was open about it. I stated I do not understand why the visa was denied but I believed the visa officer must have made an error in denying me the Canada visa.
I explained every transaction not supported by my payslip; including ATM reversals of 10k - i was that detailed.
I had a good bank balance and was ready for them.
I believe I have a good job as well - this is relative though.

This experience has proven that you can go straight for 10 years from 6 months; but I will still not advice anybody to do it as the visa officer has the right to reduce the length of visa granted. I would say I was lucky with my gamble.

Please if you want to pickup your passports, please go early ooo, I was there for over 3 hours. the queue was out of this world.

Thanks and have a good evening. See you in 10 years grin grin grin

Hello @Giselle237, trust you are well.. pls advise.
I would like to invite my brother (who is a business man) for my graduation. I will be sponsoring all expense.given the above, does he need to attach his bank statement when applying?
Yes he should provide his bank statement.
Your graduation is not the reason he will be granted a visa- he needs to pass the checks as accounted above. Also how come you are wholly sponsoring him??
This is not a good sign.

I've been a silent reader. I learnt alot from this thread. I applied for myself, my husband and 2 kids. We all got. My husband's biometrics was on the 30th May, (my kids were same as me on the 26th May) but we got mail to collect same day. Thanks for all the assistance rendered here.

I used @sokotogudali cover letter format, I also got an invite from a relative in the UK. A lot of pple discouraged me, said I shld build travel history first, but I read alot here and had faith.

For Abuja TLS, once it six weeks, u can go there and check. Immediately I got the paid mail response on the 14th, I prepared to go and check, I got the collection mail after I had collected. Lol
